Warm Winter Grown Peaches New Find RIVERSIDE (UP)—Peaches that grow well in warm winters are the newest development of the University of California's citrus experiment station here. Dr. James W. Leley, geneticist and chairman of the plant breeding division, told about them today. He said 24 years of adaptation brought out four mild-weather varieties, Bonita, Hermosa, Rubidoux and Rosy. The more familiar J. H. Hale, Rio Oso Gem and Elberta peaches need col weather to produce properly—about 1000 hours below 45 degrees. Result: they haven't done well at low levels in Southern California, where the weather usually is much milder than that. Varieties developed by the university are not patented, and Lesley says Bonita, Hermosa and Rubidoux are now available through many nurseries, Rosy, The Fox company is starting its 23rd year of business as appliance dealers. "We are very happy to be appointed Westinghouse dealer for Anaheim," Fox said today. "The addition of Westinghouse gives us a very complete line of appliances. We have one of the largest and best equipped service shops in this area, which enables us to give real service to the people of Anaheim and vicinity." Among the Westinghouse products handled by Fox are refrigerators, television sets, home freezers, ranges, laundromats, dryers, waffle bakers, vent fans, mixers, waste-away disposers, irons, toasters, roasters, sandwich grills, blankets, coffee makers, cleaners, hand vacuums, tank vacuums, and water heaters. Czech-American Trade Relations Czech-American Trade Relations Become Strained LONDON (AP) — Czechoslovakia will put maximum tariffs on American goods Nov. 1 in retaliation for U.S. restrictions on Czech-American trade, the Soviet news agency Tass reported from Prague today. Officials in Washington said the Czech move would have no effect because American shipments to the Russian satellite country amount to nothing. Both countries are signatories of the general agreement on tariffs and trade (GATT), providing for mutual lowering of tariffs and other trade barriers. The U.S. decision to cancel its tariff cuts for Czech goods was, in part, a counter blow for imprisonment of William N. Oatis, former Associated Press Bureau chief in Prague. The American action was approved by GATT in Geneva on Sept. 27. For Health, Eat California Fruit! Phone 4018 ERMISCH "MY CLEANER" Branch: 259 W. Center Plant: 117 W.
