Leonard Home Setting for Open House
Honoring Couple’s Forthieth Anniversary
Open house at the Frank H. Leonard residence, 120 Kroeger st. Sunday honored the couple on their 40th wedding anniversary. The occasion also marked the birthday of Mrs. Leonard and her "twin" cousin, D. F. Bacheller of Glendale. Mrs. Bacheller was maid of honor at the wedding 40 years ago.
Among the guests was Chester Steele, brother-in-law to Mrs. Leonard, whose Seattle home was the setting for the Leonard marriage.
The family gathering was completed by the attendance of many close friends of the couple. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and the Leonard children and grandchildren were present. Mrs. Alvin Hammel and Mrs. Thelma Brandt poured tea and coffee from a silver service while Mrs. V. P. Caruso and Mrs. Lois Leonard served at the punch bowl for the children. Miss Patricia Hammel passed the guest book.
The tables and rooms were decorated with yellow and brown tones and autumn flowers. The large cake was decorated in yellow.
Fifty-six guests attended. Mrs. Leonard wore a black crepe afternoon dress trimmed in pink satin with two pink orchids as a corsage.

PAT'S PATTERY
PRAISE AND PROS
As usual at this time of year we are becoming acquainted with a new crop of press chairmen. Again we marvel at the speed of efficiency exercised by the various P-TA groups in handling announcements and reports. Those initials might also stand something like, Publicity Time Accurately.
We also have a special set of initials (we won't mention) groups (we won't mention) turn in no publicity (don't throw want mention?) at all.
LUCKY LADY
Chatting with Mrs. John Wilson this morning we learned that her trip east with Dr. Willis was highlighted by having with Mrs. Harry Truman at Blake House. Dr. Wilson presented paper at the Washington, D.C., Oral Surgery convention. Other stops in the Wilson two weeks trip included New York, Chicago and Dallas.

Particularly flattering to the larger figure is this button-front style with its slim lines and soft feminine detail. It's simple to care for, too.
Barbara Bell sew-rite perforated Pattern No. 1913 is designed in sizes 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52. Size 38 requires 5½ yards of 39-inch fabric.

BAZAAR
An advance squad of Halloween ghosts are at work haunting members of the Presbyterian Women's Fellowship who fear that their forthcoming bazaar may be lost in the shuffle of the city wide celebration, Oct. 31.
November 2 is the date of the annual event which could never overlooked by anyone who ever taken advantage of the many lovely handmade articles offered for sale at reasonable prices.
EYE TO CHRISTMAS
American Legion Auxiliary will continue its untiring work veterans with profits from the bazaar Nov. 7. Wise Christmas shoppers take note.
ANTICIPATION
Another "looked forward" event on the November calendar is the Junior Ebell fashion show which will feature styles from Betty Rose Shop. Small fry, we usually take second place to marinade in the fashion spotlight will have a chance to strut their stuff Nov. 17.
AND RECOLLECTION
More big business is the semi-Ebell's show on Oct. 27 with SG doing the honors.
Looking back on the SQR fashion department's show last year we recall that among its other notable features the presentation included many items sized like the homemaker's budget. They are, we find, two schools thought on the fashion show picture. Some women prefer to be shown fabulous Paris collection so they will know exactly what they must do without for the season; others enjoy a less extravagant showing with price in the popular income reach.
Martha Schumacher deserve credit for an inmate fashion knowledge which combines both.

The Circus is coming
ED Pattern No. 1913 is designed in sizes 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52. Size 38 requires 5½ yards of 39-inch fabric.

STILL TALKING
Although we were vacationing and unable to attend, reports are still drifting over this desk of the Oh and Ah showing put on by Mary Millerick shop at the Bayboa Bay club. Comparative new comers, John and Mary Macloghlin are already one of the most sought-after shops in the country for presenting shows. Little credit goes to Mary, whose flair for fashion commentary is remarkable.
WEDDING BOUQUET
Orchids and orange blossoms have probably been elevated to a place of honor at Botts Nursery Son Gene Botts will wed Donna Luther of Fullerton in November.
Card Party to be Held in Fullerton
There will be a White Shrine card party tomorrow night at the Fullerton Masonic Temple, across the street from the Fox Theater.
The party is scheduled to start at 7:30 and the public is invited to attend.

Miss Jeanene Sanders, daughter

of 1100 W. Center st., Anaheim,
revealed news of her engagement to Denny Dickens, recently when she passed the traditional chocolates to friends at University hall at Redlands University.
Her fiancee, Denny Dickenson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick R. Dickenson, 750 N. Topeka st., Anaheim, is a graduate of AUHS, 1948; attended FJC for two years and is now a junior at Redlands U.
majoring in speech therapy. He is a member of Kappa Sigma Sigma fraternity.
Jeanene is a freshman business major and a member of Tawasai.
An excellent position in the old home town keeps Mrs. Henry Berry's only son back in the mid-west while Anaheim's mild climate helps Mrs. Berry's health. Letters fly back and forth, of course, especially since son has taken a bride—but it is the home town paper that keeps mother up to date. Mrs. Berry phoned the other day to give us a recipe clipped from that newspaper. She made a loaf of pineapple brown bread for company dinner, and her friends passed up dessert in favor of more of the bread. Makes grand lunch box sandwiches when spread with cream cheese.
PINEAPPLE BROWN BREAD
1 small can of crushed pineapple
½ cup of whole bran cereal
2 cups sifted enriched flour
½ cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped nuts
1 egg, well beaten
2 tablespoons melted shortening
Drain pineapple well and measure out 2/3 cup of the syrup. If there isn't that much syrup, add a little water to make that amount. Pour the syrup over the bran and let stand for 15 minutes.

EMPLOYEES GIVE DINNER DANCE
A dinner dance was given by the employees of the Stoner Rubber Company, 7061 E. Monroe st. Stanton, Saturday night, for 80 guests. It was one of the two or three parties given each year to spend the profit made on the soft drink machines in the plant.
Special guests were the owners and executives: Mr. and Mrs. Nevan S. Von Rohr of Sun Gardens, Messrs. and Mmes. Tilbert Reynolds, Fred Lehman, Donald Helmer and Gene Seller, all of Long Beach.
The scene of the party was the new Lions Community Clubhouse on Chestnut st., with Charley Brothers of Westminister doing the barbecue. Card games were one of the diversions of the evening.
James Howard of the Stanton Feed Store has purchased a home at 7862 Main st., Stanton.

And speaking of Marines—one woke us from a sound sleep by crashing his car through a neighbor's fence at four a.m. the other morning. He was a fine lad, too, who had braved ten months of Korea without a scratch, and then leaving his folks' home at an early hour to make it back to camp, he fell asleep at the wheel and broke his nose. There were so many accidents on the highway that night, that the only free highway patrol car had to come all the way from Seal Beach. Significantly, so many servicemen are involved in incidents that the county police cars carry a member of the Shore Patrol right with them.
