Anaheim Gazette WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1951 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities Junior Ebell Opens Years Business With Plans for Kiddy Fashion Show in Nov. More than 100 members of Anaheim's Junior Ebell club gathered at the clubhouse, last night to open the new season under the leadership of Mrs. Kenton Winks. Initial item on the agenda were plans for the annual Kiddy Fashion Show to be held at the clubhouse November 17. Betty Rose Show will present the styles. In order to raise additional funds for the club, the ways and means committee inaugurated a plan to serve cokes during the recess between the business and program hour. The committee, headed by Mrs. Virgil Daoust, will also serve refreshments during the bridge section meetings. Speaker for the evening was the interesting and internationally known monologist, Franklin Lacy. His versatile program included several amusing and pointed character sketches interspersed with narrations on personal experiences. Highlight of his perform- Circus to Open ance was a discussion of his recent trip through Europe and the personalities and experiences he encountered there. Mr. Lacy has made over 80 appearances on television and has appeared at more than 2,500 women's club meetings. Pouring at the tea table were Mrs. D. B. Baker, junior past president; and Mrs. Claude Simpson, junior advisor. Hallowe'en was the theme used in decorating the table, with orange and black napkins arranged on each side of a centerpiece of gold chrysanthemums. Serving on the hostess committee with chairman, Mrs. Charles Endicott, were board members, Mrs. MacFarland Tolf, Mrs. Loren Wagner, Mrs. Virgil Daoust, Mrs. Kenneth Banks, Mrs. Fred Rusch, Mrs. Wesley Mendoza, Mrs. Ralph Maas Jr., Mrs. John Ganahl, and Mrs. Kenton Wines. Sophomore Parent Dinner Last Night Under the sponsorship of Ana- Speaker for the evening was the interesting and internationally known monologuist, Franklin Lacy. Highlight of his performer Circus to Open School Activities A one ring circus and carnival will open Thomas Jefferson school's P-TA activities tomorrow afternoon. The event will feature John Strong's circus which has appeared in the Los Angeles schools and features dogs, ponies and clowns. It will be staged three times during the carnival, at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30. Mrs. A. R. Buls, general chairman of the carnival, has announced that committees will be in charge of booths to sell hot dogs, pop, coffee and chill and beans. Game booths will also be featured. Mrs. Philip Bird, president of the association, has announced that the first P-TA meeting of Thomas Jefferson school will be a pot luck supper and fathers' night Oct. 17 at the school cafeterium. Sophomore Parent Dinner Last Night Under the sponsorship of Anaheim High school P-TA, parents of sophomore students were welcomed at a dinner in the cafeteria last night. Mrs. Foster Warwick, president of P-TA, was mistress of ceremonies and presented Frank Kellogg who introduced the sophomore teachers. Mr. Demaree was unable to be present. Sophomore class advisor Mason Henry discussed at length the counseling program and the various tests given students. A discussion period followed. Approximately 100 attended the dinner. Miss Beverly Schnug, art teacher, will have P-TA membership papers prepared for the membership drive to be conducted under the direction of Mrs. Howard Wilkinson. Clyde Nickle is teacher membership chairman and has reported that a 100 per cent membership will be made. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mauerhan are sophomore class parent advisers. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Cone from the board of trustees. Engagement Told At Party Here A Saturday evening get together held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. John Moore, 1320 Burton Rd., Anaheim, revealed the engagement of Muriel Siemers to Jack Ruthrauff, both of Fullerton. Miss Siemers is the triplet daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Siemers of Pender, Nebraska. Mr. Ruthrauff is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Ruthrauff of Decatur, Illinois. No wedding date has been set. Bulgin, first vice-president of the United Church Women Southern California, speak to the on "The Challenge of Our Year." Mr. Bulgin said that the strength of the Federation of Church Women depends on the local councils and the great challenge to chick women is to discover that people across our denominational church fences are pretty like people. Bulgin, first vice-president of the United Church Women of Northern California, speak to them "The Challenge of Our Years". Anderson Altar Society Meeting Thursday Reports on the progress of the cedar chest and card party will be given when St. Boniface Altar Society meets Thursday in the Parish hall. Progress in Fremont Membership Drive "Be One in a Million" in the State of California in a program where "Children Still Come First" is the slogan for the membership drive to gain members for Fremont P.T.A. Mrs. Harold Ferguson, membership chairman, announced the drive to continue through Oct. 19. A special treat is planned for the home room with the highest percentage of memberships. An invitation to parents, teachers, and friends of Fremont students to participate in the Parent-Teacher program for 1951-52 is enclosed with the membership envelope, sent home this week.
