Maile, chief of the consumers' branch of the OPS, will establish an office in the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce each Mon- ONE ARMED BANDIT AT END OF TRAIL Chief of Police B. A. Hershey of Santa Ana, who found a slot machine of the one-arm bandit type lying beside King st., north of Eighth st., Santa Ana, last evening, would like to locate the owner. He thought of placing an ad in the want-aids, but feared this might be one instance in which the newspapers could not produce results. A woman's voice on the telephone notified Hershey that the slot machine was lying at the side of the street. When Hershey asked who was calling him, the receiver was slammed in his ear. The slot machine was empty. BRUNO LASCH PASSES Bruno Lasch, 82, a native of Germany who has resided in Anaheim and vicinity for 38 years, died yesterday afternoon at an Orange hospital as the result of injuries received in a fall last Friday when he was going out of his trailer home. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. A. F. Siewert of Anaheim; two sons, John and Eric Lasch both of Anaheim and two grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been completed and will be announced later by the Hilgenfeld mortuary. DEATH—A 15-year-old boy was killed instantly: Ross Smith added his name to the growing list of county traffic fatalities. He was killed near Tustin. Mrs. Florence Browne, 65, Anaheim pedestrian, was the other fatality of the week. There have been 88 violent highway deaths this year. COURTOPIX — Atty. Robert Jacobs filed a motion to dismiss charges against Troy Proctor, 47-year-old Newport carpenter, who asserted he beat Mrs. Dorothy Schindler, his common-law wife, in a "drunken brawl!" Aug. 25. Evert M. Gray, 47, was bound over to superior court to answer charges of hit-and-run and manslaughter growing out of the accident that took the life of Mrs. Florence Browne, 65, and seriously injured her husband, James Browne, 72. Police Chief Mark Stephenson said Gray confessed to being the driver of the car which hit the aged couple in front of the Anaheim High School. Henry Ford McCracken's lengthy murder trial should be over this week, but it may be weeks to complete the insanity hearing which would follow if he is found guilty. He pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity to the charges of kidnapping and murder of Patricia Jean Hull, 10-year-old Buena Park girl May 19. Robert L. MacMillan, 24, of Fullerton, was sentenced to San Quentin, while Gerald J. Crawford, 19, and Alvin Gardella, 20, of Santa Ana, were turned over to the Youth Authority in connection with their part of the recent county-wide dope round-up.
