Anaheim high has on their schedule for this year two of the football teams that last season were ranked in the top three in all of Southern California—Redlands and Fullerton.
Both teams soon again loaded with material that many think equals their teams of last season—the season that saw Redlands advance into the CIF semifinals and Fullerton into the finals. Both lost to defending champion Compton — Redlands by only point.
Redlands started off like a house a fire last season running over all teams. They walloped Chaffey, the defending team in the Citrus Belt league and moved into the CIF playoffs for the first time in many a moon. They finally were stopped for the first time by the Tarabes after outplaying and outdowning Compton.
Fullerton just barely squeaked by Anaheim in the league encounter and went on to capture their fourth straight league title—the first time a Sunset league team had ever accomplished the feat. Fullerton then moved into the CIF finals where they were beaten in the final period by Compton's large number of runs.

Fullerton just barely squeaked by Anaheim in the league encounter and went on to capture their fourth straight league title—the first time a Sunset league team had ever accomplished the feat. Fullerton then moved into the CIF final where they were beaten in the final period by Compton's large number of reserves.
Now, serries around the leagues are looking at Redlands, Fullerton, San Diego, Mark Keppel, Compton, Ventura, Alhambra and St. Anthony's in the teams that have the hornet and seem destined to capture their league crowds.
At any rate, no matter how good the teams are this season, Anaheim is stepping up in class—a position they are going to find more profitable, interesting, colorful and upon occasion harmful.
Redlands and Chaffey, both new on the Colonist schedule this season, are quite larger than Bell Gardens, the Colonists' season opener last year. Both are long in tradition and both are backed by years of successful teams.
They are colorful to watch. They fill the stands with students and spectators; they bring on bands that capture all sorts of prizes around the country for their looks and playing ability. They bring on coaches that know a thousand and one different plays and teach their five or six quarterbacks to use them, mostly at great advantage.
On past performances and records of their progress so far this season, I look for Anaheim to drop their first two games, come back and capture their next two for a 2-2 win-loss record moving into their league opener with Santa Anita in the Bowl.
Anaheim ought to win the one rather easily, but the following week they are going to have one rough evening, escaping without a defeat—the Huntington Beach game on the Offers own field. With Ed Godard, ex-FDC coach at the helm, they're going to be hard to stop. After the Colonists, quit licking were stopped for the first time by the Tarabes after outplaying and outdowning Compton.
Brooklyn pulled ahead of second place without lifting a bat. dropped 3 8-4 decision. Louis Cardinals in a night double header. lost the night portion to Warren Spahn and Braves 2-0. Spahn all one hit—Al Brazele's single, in posting his 20.
Mickey Manille stung Yanks off in grand styling. Trucks' first pitch run. But the Tigers shoddy flicking nicked for single runs in the fourth innings and sewed up with seven runs in Six singles and Vic Wise home run featured the fly. The Yanks made an increasing their total of their last three games.
Trucks was on the roar early going but twice Mize out with the ball to quail uprisings. Seven hits as he chalked 100th victory of his mini career and his fourth over the Yanks.
a league record of 3-2 put them in either second or in a tie for third and No, the locals aren't have it easy this season with all the lettermen. True, they have over men, but just how many would make St. Anthony team, or Compton's or Redlands or Fulbright.
The way they have been ling this past week, one feels sorry for them. We can easily get killey such powerful teams in addition they're in.
True, they have been wreck before they run the field at La Palma against Bedlands for the opener, but from here like the coaching staff it was three weeks ago.

Tigers Claw NY For 9-2 Victory; Dodgers Pull Away
(By The Associated Press)
New York's prospects of a teh-cent World Series are not so bright today.
The Brooklyn Dodgers, streaking six games ahead in the National league, are just about "in," but the New York Yankees are showing signs of cracking up in the American league scramble.
The Yanks have played horrible baseball of late. It began on Tuesday when they dropped a double header to the tall-end St. Louis Browns. The Yanks rested Wednesday, but the layoff did them no good.
Virgil Trucks and the Detroit Tigers turned back the bombers, 9-2 yesterday. However, the Yanks remained one game back of the front-running Cleveland Indians who dropped a 1-0 decision to the Senators in a night game at Washington. The third place Boston Red Sox took advantage of the Yankee and Indian defeats, beating St. Louis, 5-4, in ten innings to climb within 3½ games of the top.
Giants Drop
Brooklyn pulled six games ahead of second place New York without lifting a bat. The Giants dropped a 8-4 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals in a unique day-night doubleheader. The cards lost the night portion of twin-bill to Warren Spahn and the Boston Braves, 2-0. Spahn allowed only
Larsen Falls to Sedgmen; Flam Beats Seixas
LOS ANGELES — The newly named 1951 American Davis cup team gets another rigorous test today when young Tony Trabert of Cincinnati ties up with a former cup star, Ted Schroeder, in the semi-finals of the 25th annual Pacific Southwest Tennis tournament.
Trabert is the lone cup team member out of the five entered here who has survived play so far. In Schroeder, he faces an experienced veteran who may be added to the American team before it heads for Australia in December.
The crack Australian team has but one man left here, too—Frank Sedgman, top man of the team from down under.
Sedgman got something of a scare yesterday but finally got his game going to whip stubborn Art Larsen of San Leandro, the young man he succeeded as the U.S. singles champion.
It took Sedgman five sets to subdue Larsen, 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 6-2, 8-4.
Earlier, in the bitterest encounter of the day, Herb Flam of Los Angeles, whom many thought should have been named to the cup group, ousted a player who made the team, Victor Seixas of Philadelphia. The scores, 8-6, 4-6, 8-6, 2-6, 7-5.
Ladies Night at Local Boxing Arena Monday
Pat McGill, the sensational Oklahoma heavyweight, and the undefeated "Champ", principals in a disputed match this week, will share the spotlight with Dave Levin-Brother Frank Monday night on a "Ladies Night" wrestling program at the Orange County Athletic club.
The club rematched McGill and "The Champ" for a two out of three falls to a finish after hundreds of fans this week protested "The Champ's" one-fall victory. McGill, until pinned, had out-maneuvered, out-wrestled and out-faxed the highly touted star of TV's "Beat The Champ" program. The Champ has gone undefeated for 10 weeks in the TV ring and has a $2100 "bonus on his head" at present.
Levin, former champion of the world, this week scored a terrific victory, flattening "Wildcat" George Lennihan. He gets slightly tougher competition in Brother Frank. It is billed for two out of three, 45 minutes.
Ladies will be admitted free, except for payment of state and federal ticket tax. Two one fall matches show Krippler Karl Davis vs. "Digger" O'Dell and Paul Matty vs. "Red Shoes" Dugan.
First bout will be at 8:30 when the club returns to its "winter" starting time after several months starting at 8:45 o'clock.

Ready to Go
The other tackles ex-Orange High accesenbraum. He was c for a couple of days ready to go.
Brooklyn pulled six games ahead of second place New York without lifting a bat. The Giants dropped a 6-4 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals in a unique day-night double header. The cards lost the night portion of twin-bill to Warren Spahn and the Boston Braves 2-0. Spahn allowed only one hit—Al Brazile's sixth inning single, in posting his 20th victory.
Mickey Mantle started the Yanks off in grand style by belting Trucks' first pitch for a home run. But the Tigers, aided by shoddy fielding, picked Ed Lopat for single runs in the third and fourth innings and sewed the game up with seven runs in the fifth. Six singles and Vic Wertz' 23rd home run featured the Tiger rally. The Yanks made four errors, increasing their total to nine in their last three games.
Trucks was on the ropes in the early going but twice got Johnny Mize out with the bases loaded to quail uprising. He allowed seven hits as he chalked up the 100th victory of his major league career and his fourth of the year over the Yanks.
a league record of 3-2 which will put them in either second place or in a tie for third and fourth.
No, the locals aren't going to have it easy this season, what with all the lettermen returning. True, they have over 12 lettermen, but just how many of those would make St. Anthony's first team, or Compton's or San Diego's or Redlands or Fullertons?
The way they have been looking this past week, one sort of feels sorry for them. Why, they can easily get killed playing such powerful teams in the condition they're in.
True, they have one more week before they run out onto the field at La Palma park against Bedlands for the season opener, but from here it looks like the coaching staff was wishing it was three weeks away.
Why, one should see them scrimmage against each other, but on second hand, maybe they shouldn't.
Seattle Edges Out Win Over Jittery Los Angeles Nine
(By The Associated Press)
Will be Seattle and Hollywood—the Pacific Coast league's top two clubs in regular season play—in the best-of-five baseball playoff final which opens in Seattle tomorrow night.
Seattle, the 1951 champions, made the finals last night with a 3-1 victory over the over-eager and jittery Angels of Los Angeles. It gave Seattle two games of the three-game set, the Angels having won the middle contest Wednesday night.
Hollywood already had eliminated Portland in the other semifinal.
The teams are idle today. Tomorrow night Jake Wade (16-6) will hurl for the movjetown Stars. Seattle's pilot, Rogers Hornsbury, is keeping mum about his selection.
It might even be Harold "Skinny" Brown. The busy Brown compiled a 16-6 record after joining the Rainiers late. Then in the play-off semifinal which closed last night, Brown was credited with both Seattle victories.
Wins Both Games
He hurled a 7-0 shutout in the series opener. Last night he came on in relief and checked the Angels while the Rainiers thumped their way to victory.
The first five innings were scoreless as Seattle starter Charlie Schanz and the Angels' Doyle Lade kept the plate clean.
The Rainiers broke through for their first run in the last of the sixth. Walt Judnich was safe on an error—one of the five the Angels committed—went to third on
such powerful teams in the condition they're in.
True, they have one more week before they run out onto the field at La Palma park against Redlands for the season opener, but from here it looks like the coaching staff was waking it was three weeks away.
Why, one should see them scrimmage against each other, but on second hang, maybe they shouldn't. They can't pass, can't catch, can't block right, can't tackle correctly—they just don't. But as I say, there's one week left for them to shape into something destructive, and who knows, but what they might.
The Rainiers broke through for their first run in the last of the sixth. Walt Judnich was safe on an error—one of the five Angels committed—went to third on a single by Al Lyons and Lade wild-pitched him home. Bob Spicer then relieved Lade.
The Angels tied it while chasing Schanz in the seventh. Wally Westlake, who doubled, scored on pinch-hitter Les Peden's single.
The Rainiers got to Spicer for the clinchers in their half of the seventh. A triple by Jackie Albright, double by Judnich and a single by Lyons gave Brown all the victory margin he needed in his hitless 2½ innings relief stint.
Seattle and Hollywood play single games here tomorrow night and Sunday, then wrap up the rest of the series at Hollywood.

Santa Ana Dons Open Season Tonight In Bowl Against El Toro Marines, 8 P.M.
Santa Ana junior college starts off the football season at Orange county tonight when they play host to the El Toro Marines in an exclusive appearance at the Municipal Bowl.
The Dons are the team many observers pick to capture their fourth straight Eastern Conference title and with a turnout of 60 members they seem certain of winning if for no other reason than their large turnout.
Starting for the Dons tonight will be two members of last year's Orange High team that made all Sunset League first team honors. They are Wayne Schnakenberg, tackle, and Bob Smith, quarterback.
Leading the Red Black Lions from the field will be Caph. Chuck Sitton, all-conference end last year. Teaming up at the other end post with Sitton will be Frank Freese. Freese was a guard last season.
Ready to Go
The other tackle, besides the ex-Orange High ace is Leroy Elsenbraum. He was out of practice for a couple of days, but is now ready to go.
Dons Seen From All TV Angles
LOS ANELES (P)—An innovation in television football coverage will be tried next week in the Pasadena-Santa Ana Juhl college game in Pasadena's Rose Bowl.
A small tractor will move up and down the field, and an elevator mounted on the tractor will hoist the TV camera up and down. Fans will see the action through a variety of camera angles.
Jim Hardy, former Southern California quarterback and later with the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Cardinals, worked out the hoister principle after watching workmen stack freight at a television plant. He will announce the game and says the TV audience will be taken right into the huddles. The camera will be hung over the crossboards in field goals and conversions, too.
