NEWSLINES—A 9-year-old lad, Albert Ethorne, accidentally shot and killed Mrs. Vera Casey, 32, while being instructed in the art of shooting clay pigeons in Fullerton Saturday. A ruling by County Council Joel Ogle forbids the reading of the Bible in Orange county schools. Schools opened today. All schools throughout the county are expected to show a registration increase. Mrs. Ruth Favour Davis Budd, 66, mother of Screenactress Bette Davis, and Capt. Ortho Budd, 65, a retired army officer, have separated after 16 months of marriage. City Clerk Charlie Griffith requested the board of supervisors to take action against the further development of a slum area on the outer fringe of the city. Raymond ave. has become a "graveyard" for ancient haciendas being moved off the freeway route. ACCIDENTS—There may not have been any Labor Day holiday fatalities on Orange county highways, but there were tragic deaths during the rest of the week: Six fatalities were added to the 1951 total—86 have died so far this year. Raymond Allen, a 4-year-old lad was run over by his father's dump truck; Mrs. Etta Hancock, 74, died from injuries sustained when a streamliner hit the car in which she was riding; Mark Brasch, 23, Oscar Markham, 50, David McCann, 22, and John T. Kelly were the victims of a truck-car accident at San Clemente. Stop! Look! Listen! Think! COURTOPIX—Superior Court Judge Robert Gardner plans to speed up the second trial of Henry Ford McCracken. The prosecution has almost completed its case. The defense will have its inning sometime this week. Troy Proctor, 47-year-old Newport carpenter, will be bound over to superior office in Anaheim. Mr. Sidnam says he has watched the progress of his old home town and is impressed with the potentialities of new industrial development in the Anaheim area. It is his conviction that limits the impact of large new payrolls on the city can look forward to confidence to heavily increase business activity. He congratulates city officials, Chamber of Commerce, and various civic leaders whose far-sighted, energetic deavors resulted in obtaining viable industries for this area. Joe Sowder needs no introduction to the citizens of Anaheim. Has an enviable record in the state of Anaheim business property and is always a consistent, diligent worker in civic enterprise and betterment. Both men will be pleased to have their friends and acquaintances call at their place of business at any time. Employers File 146 Requests for Wage Increases Employers in Southern California filed 146 requests for permission to make pay increases under the wage stabilization program during August; according to Charles H. Elrey, field office supervisor for the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Administration. Elrey ruled that 31 cases required approval of the Wage Stabilization Permissible under existing regulations.
