Anaheim Gazette WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 14 ANAHEIM CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities Pat Terrebonne — 2206 Anaheim American Delegates Preparations Elvamae Jones, newly elected president of the 21st district American Legion Auxiliary, among the officers to be installed at the forthcoming annual department convention of the American Legion and the American Legion Audiary to be held in San Diego Sept. 8 through 12. Mrs. Bessie H. Cooper, convention city is general chairman and together with her committee has been busy since the appointment last September, making plans and laying the foundation for one of the biggest conventions of this large veteran group ever held in the state of California. Elaborate plans have been made for the entertainment of the delegates and guests, outstanding among them, the delegates banquet in the Cafe del Rey Morro Bay Balboa park on Sept. 12. Theme of the anair, as well as the banquet hall decorations, "Mexican Harvest." Each tail will be decorated with lazy bros dragging carretas filled with painted gourds, ripe chili pepper pottery and flowers. Strolli troubadors will roam through the hall, giving it a truly across-the-border atmosphere. Hostesses will be gowned in colorful Spanish costumes with lace mantillas, high combs and foot which will lend color to the fleecy scene. Beautiful favors will be each place as a reminder of the colorful affair. BRIDE'S HOME was the setting for a reception following the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woods, Jr. Laura Voorhees - Robert Woods, Jr., Wed In Double Ring Rites Sunday Afternoon Charming simplicity marked the double ring services Sunday, uniting Miss Laura Voorhees, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Voorhees of E. Adele st. and Robert Woods, Jr., of Santa Ana. Members of the immediate families and close friends witnessed the rites in the home of R. P. Allen of Tustin. The bride wore a teal blue fitted suit with a white orchid corsage. Her attendant, Mrs. LeRoy Kidd of Santa Ana wore a blue suit and a white gardenia corsage. Best man was LeRoy Kidd. Following the service, a reception was held in the Voorhees home where a three-tier wedding cake topped by wedding bells and two love birds holding a ring was served to approximately 70 guests. Assisting were Mrs. Tommye Douthit, Mrs. Beulah Doutnit, Mrs. Rachel Kelly, all aunts of the bride. Mrs. Voorhees received guests in a navy blue suit with a white carnation corsage. Mrs. Woods wore a violet street length dress with a gardenia corsage. The couple will make their home in San Diego where the bride-groom is stationed with the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer, 2/c. The bride will complete her studies there. Orange county' branch of the American Begonia society will meet tomorrow evening at 7:30 in the Farm Bureau hall, 353 S. Main st., Orange, Mrs. Abbot, of Abbot's School of Modern Floristry, in Anaheim will be guest speaker. Visitors welcome. Grace Lutheran Church Setting For Nuptials Returned this week from a Northern California honeymoon are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence L. Brummett, whose marriage was solemnized at Grace Lutheran church in Anaheim by the Rev. Harry Stief. For the double ring nuptials, the bride, former Don Beatrice Rasmussen, wore a blue wool suit with navy blue accessories and a corsage of stephanotis. Her sister, Miss Marian Rasmussen, was maid of honor and wore a grey wool suit with navy blue accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. Elry Hemken was best man. White larkspur and gladiolus decorated the church altar for the candlelight ceremony with nuptial music by Miss Marilyn Schimming, organist. Close friends and relatives attended the reception in the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Carrie Rasmussen, on South st. Wedding bells topped the wedding cake cut and shared by the couple, Mrs. Rasmussen wore a blue dress and her accessories were in navy. Her corsage was white carnations. The bride was graduated from Anaheim high school and Fullerton Junior college and is employed in Fullerton. Her husband attended schools in Texas and is also employed at Fullerton where they are making their home at 126 W. Whiting. As has been the custom in the past, at department convention the Founder's club will meet for luncheon Tuesday, Sept. 11, Casa del Rey Moro cafe. Auxiliary headquarters will be in the El Cortez hotel and auxiliary sessions will be held in Rud auditorium, Mrs. Cecilia McKinnon of Concord, Calif., department president, presiding. Mrs. Laura Mahau, department secretary-treasurer and her official staff will have headquarters in the U.S. Grant hotel while delegates and alternates may register on Sept. 8 and 9. Business sessions will convene Monday, Sept. 10, at 9 a.m., with the colorful opening exercises. In the afternoon at 2:30 t mammoth American Legion pride with hundreds of march units, bands, and floats will present a gorgeous spectacle. Climax to the auxiliary session will be the election of officers on Sept. 13 to be followed by installation. At this time district presidents will be installed. Candidate for department president is Beatrice Trumbull of Mawood, Calif.; vice president, M.Cormack of San Leandro. Anaheim American Legion Auxiliary delegates are Elizabeth Neuman, president; Lucile Johnson, Elvamae Jones, Gertrude Bollott; alternates, Evelyn Schwaiting, Nadine Klapper, Marie Ruedy and Oleta Larsen. Bernaheim American Legion Auxiliary Delegates Preparing for Convention Barbara Horn Returns from Island Vacation Miss Barbara Ann Horn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry I. Horn of this city, returned Sept. 1 from an extended visit on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii. She accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Clowes of Oxnard who are also well known in Anaheim. The vacationers departed on the Lurline on July 7 and spent six weeks on Oahu, and two weeks in Hawaii, where they experienced the recent earthquake there. Miss Horn reports a wonderful trip and says she plans to return to the islands in three years. She is a student at Marywood. Personais Peter Baldassarre, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Girard Baldassarre of 7129 E. Cerritos, had an emergency operation for appendicitis Monday afternoon. The young man is doing fine and will be home soon. Classes will start at 9:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at the Savanna and Stanton Elementary schools. The bus schedule will be the same as last year's until both schools move into their new plant sometime in November. Teacher's meetings will take place on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 6 and 7.
