What About Oil?
(Continued from Page 1)
two-bedroom home and I want to sell it in order to purchase a three-bedroom home. Do I lose the proceeds from my lease?
A—Not necessarily. In the deed of sale of your property you can specifically reserve the subterranean mineral rights to yourself.
Q—In the event indirect drilling "bottoms" reach beneath school property, who gets the proceeds of any oil pumped?
A—Revenues would go to the school district to be handled for the district's benefit by the board of trustees.
Q—Who gets the revenue for oil pumped from beneath a public highway or road?
A—Cases vary, but, for instance, where the city holds only an easement across property for the street, half of the road actually belongs to the property-holder whose land fronts on that particular bit of street and the oil revenues would be his.
Q—Can property-owners on the fringe of a community lease recover damages for oil they THINK may be drained from beneath their land?
A—Such cases have been tried before and in some of them owners of unleased property have been allowed to participate in community lease revenues. However, current practice of oil companies is to lease land beyond the fringe of what they calculate is the oil field, thus protecting themselves and also the beyond-the-fringe land-owner. Actually, if there were any doubt left after geologic triangulation had established oil field boundaries to the company's satisfaction, competing oil firms would be quick to offer leases in the doubtful areas.
164 Unit La Habra Park Development Open to Public
The building firm of MacBright has proven in their new La Habra park development that despite rising costs, scarcity of material, and other unsettled facilities uniquely designed fireplaces; harmonizing interior color schemes; and louvered windows. All of the homes have three bedrooms and stall showers.
Added to these interior features are outdoor "extras" such as six foot redwood fences; landscaped yards; oversized two car garages and special exterior color effects. These features help to "personalize" each home, and give them
Marx Influence Blamed for Iranian Talk Breakdown
LONDON (AP)—Richard Stokes Britain's chief negotiator, today blamed "Marxist-Leninist" theories dreamed up behind the scenes by Iranian leaders for the breakdown of crucial oil talks in Tehran.
He said, however, that with good will on both sides there was no reason a solution could not be eventually found although Britain would await Iranian guarantees of acceptable working conditions for British employees before reopening the talks.
Stokes flew into London Britain called on her lawyers to take over the dispute which diplomats have failed to solve.
Legal experts prepared an appeal to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, The Netherlands, for a "definitive judgment."
Iran refused to accept an order from the court seven weeks ago that production continue when the two countries tried to agree on methods of nationalizing the billion-dollar Anglo-Iranian company.
Denouncing leaders "behind scenes dreaming up impractical Marxist-Leninist" nationalization theories, he said these people had yet to learn "there is considerable difference between practice and theory" in application of the ideas.
164 Unit La Habra Park Development Open to Public
The building firm of MacBright has proven in their new La Habra park development that despite rising costs, scarcity of material, and other unsettled factors, it is possible to build a quality home with the luxury features prospective home purchasers are looking for, and still sell them at prices far below replacement costs.
As a result of this combination of the best features of individual home building, and the money saving aspects of large scale building, the firm has made it possible for many families to buy a custom built home, for as low as $13,300 in their 164 unit La Habra park community.
The homes located on Whittier blvd., and Cypress st., in La Habra, come complete with what is usually termed "luxury features." These features include a G.E. garbage disposal unit and G.E. dishwasher; colorful duran kitchen nooks; sliding patio doors, separating the living room from a weather protected patio; large uniquely designed fireplaces; harmonizing interior color schemes; and louvered windows. All of the homes have three bedrooms and stall showers.
Added to these interior features are outdoor "extras" such as six foot redwood fences; landscaped yards; oversized two car garages and special exterior color effects. These features help to "personalize" each home, and give them individual appeal to the home buyers. Community features include ornamental street lights; curved safety streets and orange trees. The development is close to schools, churches, shopping centers and a host of recreational facilities.
The model home at the intersection of Chestnut st., and Whitier blvd., in La Habra, is open until 8 p.m., during the week and until 9 p.m., on weekends.

"Our picture, 'Wizard of Oz', filmed with an all star cast in gorgeous technicolor, has amused millions. We believe that every child should see it and we know that every adult will enjoy it. On the same program will be Universal's new picture, 'The Hollywood Story', a mystery starring Richard Conte and Henry Hull."

Governor Talks To 224th Troops
SENDAI UP — "We are proud of you—we believe in you—and we hope you'll be coming home soon," Gov. Earl Warren of California told 5,000 troops of the 40th Infantry division today.
Addressing men of the 224th Regimental Combat Team, of which Anaheim's Company K is a part, at Camp Haugen, 175 miles north of Sendal, the chief executive said "You are a great factor in whatever measure of security we have in this world today."
The smiling governor spoke from a platform on Camp Haugen's big parade grounds which is bordered by the Pacific ocean. Before his speech Warren inspected the troops. Afterward they passed in review:

for them to meet together on common ground.
We agree with you that the industry needs a four-way working agreement among growers, packers, canners and concentrators. Any time it becomes a one-way deal for any one of the four, the industry is getting far off base. Mutual has in the past met with qualified representatives of all four groups, together or singly or any other way that might be suggested, so that proper action could be taken on important problems. It will continue to follow this practice.
First and foremost, Mutual is a growers organization and it must and will keep its members fully informed so they can act wisely in dealing with those who must handle their fruit in getting it to market. Our growers do recognize that we must keep all channels of distribution open. Our experience this past season when nature prevented the normal maturity of our Valencia crop certainly illustrated this and also demonstrated where Mutual could help when such situations occur.
The troubles of the industry during these past eight or 10 weeks have come about not by actions of Mutual, nor by the actions of any one segment of the industry, but were caused by a complete misappraisal of our marketing problem. I think you will agree, had we known the Florida crop would be more than seven million boxes of oranges and two million boxes of grapefruit in excess of what had been expected, and the yield from fruit that went to the processors would be close to 10 per cent greater than ever before, that your ideas and the growers' ideas of price would have been significantly different. In spite of this it is amazing to look back upon this season and realize the high return that the crop brought as a whole. The excess production that caused our price troubles during the past few weeks may add to the difficulties and problems of next season.

800 County Vets
Purchasing Homes
A total of 28,726 veterans in 57
California counties were financing their homes under the lowinterest "Cal-Vet" plan at the end
of the last fiscal year, it was reported today by the State Depar
ment of Veterans Affairs.
The number of active contracts is about 25 per cent higher than the figure for June 30, 1950, D. D.
Callaghan, Jr., State Director of
Veterans Affairs, pointed out. In
addition, more than 21,000 other
veterans of both World Wars have paid off their home, contracts in full since the establishment of
the program in 1921.
In Orange county, 800 veterans were purchasing homes through the Department of Veterans Affairs as of June 30.
Last year the comparable figure was 521.
