Warren Says Any Truce Breakdown Fault of Reds
TOKYO (UP)—Gov. Earl Warren said today if the Korean armistice talks fall Americans "would agree that it was a lack of desire by Russia to have peace."
The California chief executive, in Japan for a visit with the U.S., 40th Infantry division, California National Guard, expressed belief most Americans would be "grievously disappointed" if the truce talks break down.
He said he did not agree with some Republicans that the United Nations should continue fighting in Korea rather than talk peace.
His observations were made at a news conference.
Warren arrived today. He was met by Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway, Allied Supreme Commander; Maj. Gen Roderick R. Allen, commander of the 16th Corps, and Maj. Gen. Daniel H. Hudelson, 40th Division commander. The 40th is part of the 16th Corps.

Meantime in neighboring Windsor, Ont., Miss Carson was ruled victor in the all-women's international race—roughly 1,000 miles from Orlando, Fla., to Windsor.
Both races were held in connection with the American national air races last week end. Neither Miss McMillen nor Miss Carson was first to finish but both were adjudged winners on the basis of handicaps and corrected times.
Soon blonde Miss McMillen is going to marry Michael Walters of Detroit.
Miss McMillen's copilot was Mrs. Francis Bera; 26, of Bellflower, Calif. They received the Olive Ann Beech trophy at a banquet last night and split $850 in prize money.

VANCOUVER (CP)—A 400-acre plot of ground on British Columbia's north coast contains a deposit of rare clay for which enthusiasts claim remariable cures for allments ranging from simple cuts to arthritis and stomach ulcers.
Dr. Ernest A. Hauser, professor of colloid chemistry at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has devoted nearly a year to studying the clay on King Island, 265 miles north of Vancouver. He said the clay is outstanding because of its colloidal quality. It is formed of particles as fine as the mist in a fog bank—and finer.
Dr. Hauser said its healing powers are due to the powerful absorptive action caused by the tremendous surface area of the clay's colloidal particles.

FARM ELECTRIFICATION WEEK
Worth a salute
especially in California
THROUGHOUT THE NATION, the last week in August is being recognized as "Farm Electrification Week." And we think that nowhere is it more fitting to salute the importance of electricity to agriculture than here in our own state.
Farming is the basic economic foundation of this state. It represents an investment of approximately ten billion dollars. On it rest the great food processing industry and associate industries. From it radiate transportation facilities which annually carry millions of tons of food from the farms of California to the tables of the nation and the world.
Here in California more than 98% of all farms use electricity in the home and in farming operations. That is one reason California's farm homes are among the most modern and its farms among the most productive in the world.
Of the many uses for electricity in farming, none outweighs in importance the powering of irrigation pumps. In a land where rainfall—so essential to agriculture everywhere—is virtually non-existent during almost half the year, thousands of irrigation pumps powered by dependable, low-cost electricity have played a major role in boosting California farm income to the highest in the nation.
