Chief Harbor Engineer R. R. Shoemaker said the area bounded by Seaside blvd., Water st., Santa Barbara ave., and the harbor entrance is sinking steadily into the sea.
It now is seven feet below the high tide line and before too long, he estimated, it will be 16 feet—the height of an average house.

Passenger Service for Helicopters Approved for Orange County Area
Los Angeles Airways, Inc., has been granted permission to go ahead with experimental work for a 5-year period preparatory to the establishment of helicopter passenger service within a radius of 50 miles from Post Office Terminal Annex in Los Angeles, also to include San Bernardino.
Anaheim City Administrator Keith Murdoch said this morning that the Civil Aeronautics Board granted the permission "on a limited basis" which does not completely restrict the service to experimental activity only.
Preliminary information supplied by Clarence Belinn, president of Los Angeles Airways, Inc., some time ago stated that a new type, multi-passenger helicopter is being developed for interurban service, but will not be available until 1952.
E. W. Moeller, manager of Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, has been working closely with city officials and Belinn to bring the proposed heliport to Anaheim. He has pointed out repeatedly that 15-minute service to International Airport and downtown area of Los Angeles has been of great value to individuals and concerns in Anaheim who have made consistent use of the helicopter mail service and contends that a regular helicopter passenger service would be of even more value.
Los Angeles Airways' service and safety record since the inauguration of helicopter mail service, Oct. 1, 1947, has been of the finest, according to a report filed with the CAB by Examiner Ferdinand D. Moran. During the time of service only one accident has occurred on the line and over 90 per cent of scheduled flights have been made.
A portion of Moran's report indicates that LAA's helicopter laboratory for the armed forces and trained instructors of the Army Air Forces in the new technique of instrument flying, which it (LAA) was the first to pioneer...
"Representatives of the Sikorsky and Plasockj companies emphasized the close relationship between the work which has been done in Los Angeles and the results achieved in utilization of helicopters in Korea," the report said.

Private reports reaching here said the strike had paralyzed the two big rail centers of Junin to the west and Ingeniero White to the south.
It apparently had not spread to Buenos Aires and Rosario, largest cities in Argentina.
The lines were blown up following the strike call by the engineers and firemen who man the state-owned railways.
The government, in its communique on the bombing, did not mention the strike which the union elect its own officers. The union said was called because the regime had refused to let the union, controlling about 8000 Argentine's 160,000 rail workers, said officers were hand-picked by the government.

To fill the vacancies which will be created by the expected Senate confirmation of Fechteler's nomination, Mr. Truman nominated Adm. Lynde D. McCormick, now the acting chief of naval operations, to be commander of Atlantic fleet. McCormick was a submariner before he became vice chief of Naval operations. Vice Adm. Donald P. Duncan, deputy chief of operations, was proposed by the president for promotion to vice chief.
Mr. Truman sent the nominations to Capitol Hill soon after he had held a White House meeting with Navy Secretary Dan Kimball and Fechteler.

Dr. C. O. Patterson Celebrates 25 Years of Practice in Anaheim
Twenty-five years ago this month a young optometrist named Dr. C. O. Patterson came to Anaheim from Watsonville, Calif., where he had practiced his chosen profession for five years.
Dr. Patterson has specialized increasingly in crossed eyes and complicated eye cases involving muscular troubles, and has had remarkable success in straightening the eyes of nearly every case he has taken. In doing this, there is no risk of permanently injuring the delicate muscles of the eyes as there is in surgery, but the complicated visual mechanism is trained to co-ordinate the vision in the two eyes, which makes his method the most permanent known.
During the 25 years Dr. Patterson has been in Anaheim, there have been many changes. The first 18 years in Anaheim, his office was located at 109 S. Los Angeles st., and after that at the present location, 161 W. Center st. Dr. and Mrs. Patterson reside at 934 N. Citron st., with two of their three children, Elton Wayne and Pauline, who is now receptionist in her father's office. Another daughter, Cleone Butka, resides near San Diego where her husband, Dr. Don Butka is a Naval denist.
Dr. Patterson estimates he has prescribed about 40,000 pairs of glasses, besides many hours of visual training for thousands of Anaheimers as well as many other conditions.

Permit for Fruit Stand Obtained
Kenneth W. Cummings obtained his permit from the county supervisors Tuesday for a produce stand and grocery located at Palm st., and Harbor blvd., at the south edge of Anaheim.
The county planning commission last Friday had turned down his application by the close vote of 4 to 3. The supervisors reversed the commission yesterday and granted the permit.
The objecting members of the planning commission contended that the market would create a traffic hazard at a busy intersection. County supervisors, in granting the permit, took cognizance of this objection by requiring Cummings to change his plans for drive-in traffic. Both entrances must be on Harbor blvd., and the exits on Palm st., the board ordered. That, it was felt, would eliminate the confusion of traffic passing in both directions.
