Time Hangs Heavy on Father's Hands During Two Weeks with Pay Period
It's vacation time, and father's underfoot again.
Whether at resort hotel, fishing camp or in his own back yard, the dear old boy is likely at some time during that two-weeks-with-pay to find time hanging heavy on his hands.
That is the time for mom and the kids to take cover.
Not, you understand, that father isn't a fine fellow, beloved by all. Not that he isn't the soul of decorum all the other 50 weeks of the year.
But the sudden release from office routine, the feeling of being free as a bird with nothing to do for two whole weeks is likely to produce strange and harrowing results.
After he has fished for five days straight and brought home only one small bass.
After he's played his 18 holes of golf every day for a week and still finds time to spare.
After he's caught up with the gardening and the odd chores around the house.
That's about the time when father feels the urge to howl.
The symptoms are easy to recognize.
He'll start by complaining about his breakfast coffee, refusing to eat his bacon and eggs and cutting himself while shaving.
After leaving a morass of wet towels on the bathroom floor, he will find that all his shirts either have missing buttons or frayed collars, and will make appropriate comment.
After searching diligently through his rack of 100-odd ties he'll announce that none of them are fit to wear, and why can't we get some cleaning done around here.
Finally, to everyone's relief, he will stamp out, slamming all door behind him.
Whether nightfall finds him engaged in a poker party with the boys, a convivial evening at the home of friends or a bit of concern treated relaxation at some gay night spot, bystanders should beware.
Father is letting off steam, and is every man's inalienable right—at least once a year.
Orange County branch of the American Begonia society will meet August 2 at 7:30 in the Fairway Bureau hall at 253 S. Main st. Santa Ana.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Taylor o'10641 S. Flower st., have been entertaining a cousin, Mrs. Mary Earle of Camden, Ark. She leaves this past week-end after a pleasant month's visit.

Mrs. E. J. O'Donnell Hosts Stork Shower
Mrs. E. J. O'Donnell of 14771 Wilson st., Midway City, was hostess at a stork shower in honor of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jim O'Donnell of Long Beach, Friday afternoon.

Miniature pink and blue plastic basinettes filled with pastel colored mints were favors on the refreshment table at which pink and white log ice cream, angel food cake with pink decoration, and coffee were served. The napkins were pink and blue kimonos with ribbon bows at their neckline.
From Midway City guests were Mmes Fred Schroeder, J. Herrod, Nina Messmer, Wesley Steuart, R. J. Hicks, William Arp, Edward Fitzgerald, Ruth Caswell, Thad Fry and Alfred Moulton. Not able to be present but sending gifts were Mmes. Fred Anderson, Charles Loy, Russell Williams, Verletta Ward and Harold Weber.
