Local Legion Nine Ties Huntington, Faces Fullerton Sunday at La Palma Hatfield Triples in Huntington 5-5 Tie Scoring two runs in the eighth and final inning Huntington Beach blanked the local Legion nine in their half at the plate to end the hour and 50 minute game in a five-five tie to display a terrific finish as they had to come from behind to gain their tie. The local American Legion nine jumped out to a two run lead in the second inning, but the Beachcombers tied the game up with a run in the fourth and a tally in the fifth; however, the game didn't remain knotted for long as Clare Van Hoorebeke's lads shoved across two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. In the fifth for Anaheim Lupe Gonzales started off the frame by grounding out, pitcher to first. Val Weithorn was safe at first when the short stop fumbled one. Weithorn moved to second on a passed ball from where he started to make for the plate when George Bishop singled into right-center. However, Weithorn was out at the plate easy when the center fielder threw to Hasley who then relayed the ball to Boswell for the put out on slow moving Weithorn. Bishop moved to second on the throw in, and scored when the short stop booted Jowell Esparza's hard grounder. Then up to the plate strode big. Fullerton recently captured county title with a 11-1 win with Anaheim far behind on spot with an 8-4 win record. Fullerton then proceeded to power through the side County champs and the Berdoo County winner, falling miserably to San in two straight games. Anaheim met Fullerton first of the season in a two series and really didn't come too bad, at least in the first although they lost both games. In the first loop game at Amerige park in Katon, the host team jumped early one run lead in the innings; however, Anaheim took up with a tally In the fourth went out in front with a two score in the fifth. With an tally in the sixth the game ended like an Anaheim upset beautiful victory over Lefty Rosen. But the four time loop cweren't to be denied and they promptly tied them. Boswell's center field blow in the seventh to highlight the Huntington rally. The game was called at the end of the eighth as a result of darkness, but the local nine will get a chance to redeem themselves for playing such bad ball in a possible game next Thursday with the Huntington Beach nine. In yesterday's game at La Palma Park Huntington booted the ball for four errors, three by shortstop Hasley while the local clowns bungled the ball three times, twice by ole slem foot, Masterson. Dick Ramella started on the mound for the locals, but was removed for Wiethorn in the fifth. Ramella faced 13 batters, giving up only one run and two hits while striking out three and walking four. Wiethorn faced 17 batters and gave up four runs, four hits while striking out two and walking only three. The visiting chucker, Bob Boswell went the route and allowed five runs while touched for eight hits. He struck out seven and walked a mere two for excellent control throughout the game. Barry's loss put a bad finish to an otherwise perfect day in which he and his boys' doubles partner, Don Lee, had added a 6-1 win over Jack Trott and Lee Risner, to a string of four previous love set victories, and Barry and his mixed doubles' partner Jean Williams had defeated Kaye Caffee and Don Kohlenberger 6-1 and Rita Flynn and John Kohlenberger 6-0. Caffee and Kohlenberger also lost a 6-2 set to Carol and Ronnie Swank. On the girls' singles ladder Rita Flynn gave Anne Williams a real scare when she challenged her for her number four position, took a 4-2 game lead and was only subdued after a 7-5 struggle. Specifically, the eight-club triple-A loop wants as much rest from the Major league draft that can get, and the only request is making at this time is this: That Coast-owned ball players permitted to stipulate, when they sign a contract in the spring, that they will or will not be eligible for the draft in the following November, when the draft is conducted.
