State Casting Tournament at La Palma Park Saturday and Sunday
California’s Skish Casting Tournament will be staged at the La Palma Park pool next Saturday and Sunday by the Anaheim Ikes.
The event will determine the state champions for men, ladies and juniors in seven accuracy and distance contests with standard fishing tackle according to Clint Flynn, prexy of the conservation group.
Saturday will be the distance day of the tournament with the Skish Bait Distance event at 9 a.m. followed by the Skish Spinning Distance event at 11 a.m. at the baseball field. The Distance Fly event is slated for 2 p.m. at the pool.
On Sunday the activities will start with the Accuracy Fly event which will be judged by the members of the Rancho Rod and Gun club of Los Angeles.
The Accuracy Bass Bug game begins at 11 a.m. under guidance of the Long Beach Casting club.
Afternoon events are Spinning accuracy at 1 p.m. and bait accuracy at 3 p.m. Tournament will close with the Skish Bait team event starting at 4 p.m.
Among the record holders expected are Earl Osten, 1950 National All Around champion, Cliff Wyatt whose score of 95 in Skish Fly is still tops, Jimmie Green, holder of the present 190 foot spinning distance record, and several co-holders of the national Bass Bug record of 100—Quincy Hunt, Turk Warner, Clint Flynn, Elmore Finch, and Jim Corbell.
In spite of the imposing array of casting talent, the average caster has his chance to compete with casters of comparable ability under the new classification system in force at this tournament. Ike’s are offering many medals for the efforts of the average casters.
The Anaheim Ikettes will operate a lunch stand at the park on the two days of the tournament specializing in sandwiches, pie, cake, coffee and soda pop.

Cleveland Drops Another to Yankees In New York, 2-1
If Cleveland wins the American league pennant, they’ll never lie it in Yankee stadium.
The Tribal warwhoop is only empty echo in the Yanks’ concussion wigwam on the Harlem wi. Cleveland has lost 13 straight games since July 14, 1950.
It was the same story last summer. After that shocking series Boston where the Indians blew and 12-1 leads, Cleveland stage into the Yankee stadium to four in a row. They came to two games out of first place finished up 5½ behind in four place. That was the fatal blow.
Failure to whip the Yankees New York has been almost as costly this season. They’ve dropped eight straight in ‘51 with only three to play.
Big John Mize was the villain in the Indians’ current disaster. His eighth-inning homer won opener Tuesday, 3-2, and his ninth-inning double punched home runs of yesterday’s 2-1 verdict on tough luck Mike Garcia.
Because Chicago snapped five-game losing streak and wiped Boston at Fenway Park, the Yankees opened up a full game lead on the Red Sox. Cleveland another game back and the WSox are 3½ off the pace.
In sharp contrast to this struggle, the National remaining Brooklyn waltz with the Dodgers 6-2 winners over Chicago, now full games in front of New York which won a June 17 “suspense game” from Pittsburgh, 7-6 in innings but lost the regular scheduled contest, 5-4.

2700 Miles Apart
HOLLYWOOD (AP) — The name of Johnny Jorgensen appears too in box scores for two baseball games played 2700 miles apart.
The odd circumstances call about this way:
On June 17, Jorgensen appeared as a pinch hitter in a game between the New York Giants and Pittsburgh. But the contest was called in the eighth inning with score tied, and it wasn't complete until yesterday.
Since then the Giants sent Jorgensen to Oakland of the Pacific Coast league, with whom he pitted here last night.
Baker and Legg Fall in LA Tennis Championships; Trott Mores Up
Floyd Baker and Ronald Legg
Anaheim's last two entrants in the 20th Annual Junior Los Angeles Metropolitan Tennis Championships, were defeated in their first round matches, as Baker lost to Dick Shay of San Diego, 6-1, 6-0, and Legg was defeated by Fedro Yanez of El Monte who was seeded fourth in the boys' singles division, by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
On the local courts most of the activity took place on the tennis hadders where challengers were trying to improve their positions. Jack Trott who was in seventh place turned back the challenge of Jay Lillywhite, 6-1, and then went on to take over Don Kohlenberger's sixth spot with a 6-2 win.
Pat Schneider moved into the number fourteen position with successive wins over David Evans, 6-2, and Ronnie Swank, 6-0. David was then moved down still farther when he was challenged and beaten by Gene Newkirk, 6-1, with Evans finishing in the seventeenth position and Newkirk at number fifteen.
In the round robin mixed doubles tournament Kaye Coffee and Don Kohlenberger defeated Carol and Ronnie Legg, while David Evans and Terry Hunt lost two boys' doubles matches by identical 6-2 scores to John Kohlenberger and his partner Gary Schilling and to George Legg and his partner Gene Newkirk.

(By The Associated Press)

was the same story last summer. After that shocking series in on where the Indians blew 7-0 12-1 leads, Cleveland staggered to the Yankee stadium to lose in a row. They came to town games out of first place and ended up 5½ behind in fourth. That was the fatal blow. Failure to whip the Yanks in York has been almost as costless season. They've dropped straight in '51 with only two to play.
John Mize was the villain the Indians' current disaster. Eighth-inning homer won the over Tuesday, 3-2, and his ninth-g double punched home both of yesterday's 2-1 verdict over a luck Mike Garcia.
cause Chicago snapped its game losing streak and whip-Boston at Fenway Park, 6-2. Yankees opened up a full game on the Red Sox. Cleveland is near game back and the White are 3½ off the pace.
sharp contrast to this wild angle, the National remains a klyn waltz with the Dodgers, winners over Chicago, now nine games in front of New York from Pittsburgh, 7-6 in 10 games but lost the regularly scheduled contest, 5-4.
Garcia pitched a fine game Evans finishing in the seventeenth position and Newkirk at number fifteen.
In the round robin mixed doubles tournament Kaye Coffee and Don Kohlenberger defeated Carol and Ronnie Legg 6-2, while David Evans and Terry Hunt lost two boys' doubles matches by identical 6-2 scores to John Kohlenberger and his partner Gary Schilling and to George Legg and his partner Gene Newkirk.
