Morning Star Heads for New Sea Record HONOLULU (F)—The Morning Star swept steadily forward today toward a possible new trans-Pacific record in the Los Angeles to Honolulu yacht race. Officials said Dick Rheem's 97-foot schooner from San Francisco set a new mark for one day's run yesterday, logging 303 miles. The previous record of 288 miles was set by the Invader in 1926. The Morning Star was estimated at 9 p.m., Tuesday (2 a.m. Wednesday, E.S.T.), 730 miles from Honolulu. Officials said she would pass Diamond Head, the finish line, about noon, Friday (5 p.m., E.S.T), if weather conditions remained good. That would be just over nine days for the 2,225-mile trip. A commercial radio station is a vital requisite of the civilian defense program. Northern Orange county is obligated to Santa Ana or Los Angeles for its radio coverage.
