Jesus' words from John's Gospel (4:23) constitute the Golden Text: "The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth."
The prophet Isaiah writes, "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the hands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free ... ? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? ... Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee" (58:6-8).
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says, "Whatever materializes worship hinders man's spiritual growth and keeps him from demonstrating his power over error" (p. 4).

"Do I Love My Brother?" is the subject of Pastor Bob Kevorkian at the Sunday 11 a.m. service of the Calvary Baptist church, Broadway at Citron. What is it that constitutes the true basis of love for my brother?

END "MARCH OF TIME"
NEW YORK (P) — After 16 hours
Pedestrians on a downtown street cowered in doorways for a time yesterday afternoon as bottles came plunging down from the skies and crashed on the sidewalk.
Traffic officer S. H. Lynd finally found a 40-year-old secretary five stories up and jailed her on a drunk charge.
"She told me she had some drinks because her cherished home was in the path of a free-way and she was fired because she had the drinks and so she had some more drinks," Lynd said.
"Anyway, she was mad at the whole world."
Memorial services will be conducted by Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars in their chapel, Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev. Howard S. Congdon will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot at Coulterville, Ill.

CALIFORNIANA — On July 7, 1846 Capt. William Mervine, acting on orders from Com. John D. Sloat, raised the American flag over the custom-house at Monterey, thus formally taking California as a possession of the United States. The occupation was achieved without a shot being fired.
VIGNETTE — Walter Scott—"Death Valley Scotty," that is made his record breaking trip from Los Angeles to Chicago on the Santa Fe, July 11, 1903. The trip was made in 48 hours and 54 minutes.
Scotty's chartered train consisted of a Pullman, buffet diner and a couple of baggage cars.
It cost Scotty $5000 with a bonus of $500 to the railroad if the trip could be made in less than 48 hours.
The only passengers on that trip were Mr. and Mrs. Scott, two newspapermen, a magazine writer and Scotty's mascot — a hondescript yellow dog wearing a $1000 collar.
WM. McKINLEY WALKER
Newly Appointed Wesley Methodist Pastor to Speak
Rev. Wm. McKinley Walker, recently appointed by Bishop Jas. C. Baker, to be pastor of the Wesley Methodist Church, corner Los Angeles and Wilhelmina streets, will speak at his 11 o'clock service on the theme, "Religion at Midnight."
The minister says, "Religion that does not hold up in the darkest hours and under adverse conditions, is not worthy of the name." He contends that 'religion at midnight' played an important part in the Bible and plans to point it out to his congregation.
Rev. Walker is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, and of the University of Southern California. In the latter he was instructor for a time. More recently he came from Ventura County where he had been Associate Pastor of the First Methodist Church of Ventura and Pastor of Susana Knolls Methodist Church, Simi.
Rev. Walker was selected by Helfers Relief Association and commissioned by the United States Government to assist in the relief of the native Okinawans, whose island was devastated by the war. Mr. Walker had a thrilling experience in the Orient, encountering a typhoon. He took many kodachromes in the Ryukyu Islands and in Japan, and has promised to show these pictures to the people of Anaheim.
Mr. Walker moved to our city last week and conducted his first The full choir anthem will be "To God All Praise and Glory" by Schutz, Choral benediction is to be "Now the Day Is Over."
The Rev. Philip Selfridge, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church and chairman of the Public Worship committee of the Church Association of Anaheim will preside and will introduce Rev. Casebeer. The preacher is well known to Anaheim churchgoers, having at present the longest pastorate in this city. He came to the Church of Christ August 1, 1943. The following spring he was granted a two year's leave of absence by his church to serve as an army chaplain. This service took him to Europe with the 78th Infantry Division. He returned to Anaheim pastorate in 1946 to become again the spiritual leader of his growing congregation. He has since served as president of the Ministerial Union and chairman of the Education committee of the Church association.
Before coming to Anaheim, Rev. Casebeer was pastor for nine years of the Lawndale Church of Christ. He holds a B.A. from the University of Southern California and a B.D. from the Pacific Bible seminary in Long Beach. He also has nearly completed work for an M.A. at Southern California.
Next Sunday, July 15, the Union service will present the Rev. S. J. Russell Ensign, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Whittier, who will do a first person, full costume, life story character sketch entitled "I Am Moses." Rev. Ensign will be remembered for his similar thrilling presentation of the life of Joseph at the first Union summer service last year.
Member churches of the Anaheim Church association which is sponsoring these summer Union services are the Church of Christ, The Church of the Nazarene, White Temple Methodist, First Presbyterian, Wesley Methodist, St. Michael's Episcopal, Free Methodist, Evangelical United Brethren, Bethel Baptist and Grace Lutheran.

Robert P. Hilze is going on television Wednesday nite to tell the City at Night audience all about Scotty's trip. Y'see, the Fullerton station agent shovelled the coal that made that trip possible.
"Yes, Jawn," the only active member of that historic run said, "I'm going to go on television and tell them about Scotty's trip. I'm part of the commercial."
That's it! That's what television needs: interesting, informative commercials.
PREDICTION—Orahge county's phantom "pants burglar" will soon be caught. H. A. Wilson almost nabbed him in his exclusive La Habra Heights boudoir.
NOTES — Santa Ana's Police Chief B. A. Heraldy was given an inter-office communication by the county seat city council: "Clean up gambling in Santa Ana." It ain't healthy—chiselling on the elementary school budget. Economy is all right, but penny pinching where the kids are concerned is a mighty poor policy. Anaheim kids are entitled to as good an educational break as kids in Fullerton, Buena Park, Brea or La Habra.
CONGRATULATIONS — Phi Weib is to be congratulated on being elected commander of the Anaheim American Legion Post and Millford (Bud) Johnson is to be praised for the outstanding job he's done during the past year. Legionnaires perform an outstanding community service.
TOPIX—Hilmer Lodge said the reports of his auto crackup were vastly "exaggerated by the press."
Wonder what Joe Laden Jr. is doing politically? State Forester Jon Benham has closed certain areas of the Cleveland National Forest.

Mr. Thompson’s sermon topic will be “James, the Brother of Jesus.” A trumpet duct will be presented as an offerory by Roch Côtklin and Paul Billows.
At 9:30 a.m. the Summer Family service will include a brief morning prayer, a colored slide talk on “The Calling of Matthew,” and a question contest period, in which, after three Sundays, the second grade leads.

Wonder what Joe Lade Jr. is doing politically?
State Forester Joe Benham has closed certain areas of the Cleveland National forest as a fire prevention measure. People it seems can't be trusted in the highly inflammable areas.
Don Leibhart will have a powerful Anaheim representative in Lee Kayanagh’s Midget softball league.
John Tynes, the popular Valencia high school athletic director, is also guiding the destinies of the Placentia summer recreation program. The man does a mighty good job on any job he tackles.
Vie Nudy is being praised by countless thousands of Southern Californians who use Anaheim’s picnic facilities.
NITECAPSULE—Some mothers-in-law aren't as bad as them seem—they're worse.

Unexpectedly withdrawing his insanity plea after the jury was compelled to hear his case yesterday, William John Gibson, 49, of Costa Mesa, previously convicted of two counts of assault, was sentenced by Judge Robert Gardner to six months in jail and was placed on five years probation.
He had been found guilty of simple assault against Stanley Meek, 19, of Costa Mesa, 1d whom he had given a beating, and also was convicted of felony assault with a deadly weapon for firing three shots at officers who were arresting him.

When the insanity plea was withdrawn yesterday, Defense Attorney Russel Behrens reminded the court that a psychiatrist in the case had filed an opinion that Gibson has the mind of an 11 year old child.
Christmas in July For Returning GI
READING, Pa. (U)—Christmas came six months late for the Robert Aukamps and their 22-year-old son Donald, an Air Force corporal.
Donald enlisted in September 1845, and hasn't been home for Christmas since. Last Christmas eve his parents decorated a tree and heaped presents around it for their soldier son, who was serving in Korea.
They wrote him: "We will celebrate Christmas when you come home—not a day before."
Donald left Korea a month ago and arrived home last night.
He opened the door to find the tree ablaze with colred lights, the gifts exactly as they had been placed last December.
