Moeser, acting director of the San Diego District Office of Price Stabilization, Central Office for Orange County, that livestock slaughter quotas still are in effect until July 31, regardless of the action of Congress. "The vote in the Senate to ban quotas in a new or extended Defense Production Act has no effect on slaughter quotas now in force," Moeser said. The July slaughter quotas are based on the number of animals slaughtered in July, 1950. The quotas provide that 90 per cent of beef animals slaughtered in July, 1950, may be slaughtered this month. Other figures are 105 per cent for pork, 85 per cent for veal and 85 per cent for lamb. Violations of the quota will be subject to prosecution under the law as it now stands, according to Patrick E. Gavin, chief of enforcement of the local O.P.S. The new money order will not be drawn on a particular post office, but they may be cashed at any post office or bank without any collection fee. The same application forms will be used, and money orders will be issued for any amount not exceeding $100.00. Twelve regional accounting offices have been established, one in each city where a Federal Reserve Bank is located. These offices will process the new forms, handling them with electrical sorting and accounting machines. The accounting office for this area will be in San Francisco. During the past year the nation's post office issued more than 400,000,000 money orders for a total of more than $5,000,000,000. The new system is expected to effect an operating savings of $7,-000,000. The term "poultry" is used for domestic duck, fowl, turkeys, guinea fowl and geese; the word "game" for wild duck, partridges, grouse, phasant, quail, deer and other edible wild birds and beasts.
