Six huge baskets of white gladioli and stock decorated the church altar for the nuptials, read by Father Thomas G. Cosgrove. The bride chose for her wedding a gown of exquisite chantilly lace over heavy Skinner satin. Long sleeves and a peter pan collar complimented the fitted bodice and the skirt of her redingote ended in a graceful train. Held to her hair with a crown, her veil fell in deep folds to floor length and she carried an arrangement of white stephanotis and gladioli. Pick and Choose Girls: Bumper Crop Of Bachelors on Market Today By DOROTHY ROE Associated Press Women's Editor There are three marriages every minute somewhere in the United States, according to the latest statistics of the Institute of Life Insurance. This marriage boom has been going on for some time, but the big rush in romance followed the outbreak of the Korean war last summer, just as it did during World War II. As the brides and grooms continue to rush up the aisle at the rate of more than a million and a half marriages per year, some notable changes are evident in the nation's social set-up. It seems for instance that veil fell in deep folds to floor length and she carried an arrangement of white stephanotis and gladioli. Miss Mary Anglin, as maid of honor, wore a gown of soft green organdy over taffeta with puffed sleeves and a bouffant skirt. Bridesmaid was Mrs. Paula Erwin who wore organdy in an orchid shade, and junior bridesmaid was Miss Sharon Rentz who also wore orchid organdy. They carried baskets of daisies in the same colors as their gowns. Lawrence Hund, brother of the bridegroom, was best man and ushers were John Bruce and Forrest Parker. Mrs. A. F. Faust was organist. Reception was held at Capilla de, San Antnio where Mrs. Herbert Isley assisted in serving and Mrs. D. W. Shaffer had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Brown wore a royal blue rayon crepe dress with white accessories and Mrs. Hund chose a navy blue sheer with white. They both had corsages of carnations. When the bride left on her honeymoon trip she was wearing a navy blue summer suit with navy and white accessories and a white carnation corsage. She is a graduate of Fullerton High school and Fullerton Junior college. Her husband was graduated from Anaheim High school and is now with the Telephone co. They will reside in Anaheim. Probably will have the same ideas, and where will that leave your own clothes allowance? 2—Does he encourage the Dutch treat custom? This also is a poor omen for the girl who is hoping to be supported in idle luxury. 3—Does he like to have his own way? This is a tendency that must be crushed at once. 4—Have you pictured what he will look like before breakfast, with a stubbly chin and uncombed hair? If you can think of him thus and still covet him, you're in love, baby, and you might as well rush for the marriage license bureau without further ado. 5—Is he always the life of the party? This may be fun now, but Tilbert Reynolds, an executive of Stoner Rubber Co., Stanton, who lives in Long Beach, is back at work having been in the hospital for over three weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Chet Porter of this city left this week for a three week visit in Astoria, Oregon. Dr. James E. Center Anaheim 3289 This marriage boom has been going on for some time, but the big rush in romance followed the outbreak of the Korean war last summer, just as it did during World War II. As the brides and grooms continue to rush up the aisle at the rate of more than a million and a half marriages per year, some notable changes are evident in the nation's social set-up. It seems, for instance, that at present there are more eligible bachelors running around loose than there are unmarried girls between the ages of 20 and 24. This, the statisticians explain, is because most of the current crop of brides are in that age group, while the bridegrooms are usually a few years older. So, midway in 1951; only a third of all girls between 20 and 24 are unmarried, and only 15 per cent of all women between 25 and 34. This provides a rare and unusual advantage for the girls, who have been bombarded with advice for years about how to catch a husband, and who have been warned frequently that there aren't enough men to go around. Now it seems that young ladies in the lucky age group can be a little more choosy in selecting their life mates. No longer will they have to jump at the first male who comes along, in order to avoid that awful fate of becoming old maids. This being the case, and always providing there is a choice, here are a few points the girls might consider when they go husband-shopping, just to be sure they get the likeliest bargains the market offers: 1—Does he spend a lot of money on clothes for himself? This is bad, because after marriage he 3—Does he like to have his own way? This is a tendency that must be crushed at once. 4—Have you pictured what he will look like before breakfast, with a stubly chin and uncombed hair? If you can think of him thus and still covet him, you're in love, baby, and you might as well rush for the marriage license bureau without further ado. 5—Is he always the life of the party? This may be fun now, but consider how you will feel in the years to come, as you sit quietly in your wisely corner and watch friend husband scintillate for the benefit of all the other girls. It's likely to give you matrimonial astigmatism. 6—Does he tell the same jokes over and over? You may be able to laugh each time now, but after a few hundred years it gets to be an effort. 7. Is he a golf fiend. Do you want to be a golf widow? 8—Does he criticize your hair-do and makeup and advise you about your clothes? This is a trait that easily can lead to murder. 9—Does he expect you to be a girl just like the girl who married dear old dad? This is a difficult feat for any bride unless she is in her second incarnation. 10—Oh well, do you like the guy? If you do, none of these things will stop you anyway. So go on and keep up that national average of three weddings every single minute. Rev. Harry F. Stief, pastor of Grace Lutheran church, left last weekend with his family for a vacation in his home state, Iowa. According to the pastor, he is going to do "some farming and fishing" and will attend a 1½-week session at his seminary in Dubuque. The firm which operates the helicopter service, Los Angeles Airways, Inc., suspended service until the cause of the accident can be determined. However, President C. M. Unless there is some break—such as an awaited message from President Truman — it looks as though both the Iranians and British will wait for the oil tanks of the great Abadan refinery to reach capacity. The Anglo-Iranian oil company — center of the nationalization row — has slashed production to less than 50 per cent of capacity in a move designed to postpone shutting the refiner and give more time for negotiations. It is estimated the slowdown will allow 20 days of operation before the storage tanks will. Premier Mossadegh sent President Truman a message last month saying Iran is trying to maintain the westward flow of oil and asking his support for Iran's nationalization drive. If You Drive!
