Nuptial Mass at St. Boniface Unites Gertrude Lieklius as Bride in Sunday Rites
Miss Gertrude Claire Liekhus was a beautiful bride Saturday morning as she entered St. Boniface Catholic church on the arm of her father to say her marriage vows with Edward Joseph Reynolds of Los Angeles. The Rev. Father Maurice Dee officiated.
An off shoulder effect was created in the fitted lace bodice with long sleeves tapered to the wrist. The skirt fell in soft folds of marquisette at the hipline and ended in a graceful train. Her veil was held by a lace crown and she carried a white orchid and stephanotis on a Prayer book.
Bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Liekhus of 301 N. Pine st., Anaheim.
Mrs. Arthur Jensen of Santa Ana, matron of honor, wore an organdy dress of embroidered organdy with a band of yellow daisyes in her hair and matching flowers in her bouquet. Bridesmaids, Miss Ruth Dahlstrom and Mrs. LaVerne Hays were dressed in matching ensembles.
James Anderson of Los Angeles was best man and ushers were Jerry Liekhus and LaVerne Hays.
Marilyn Finley of Orange was soloist and Mrs. A. F. Faust was organist.
Reception followed the service at Capilla de San Antonio with 150 guests in attendance. For her daughter’s wedding Mrs. Liekhus wore a navy blue lace dress with pink accessories and an orchid corsage. Mrs. Anna Reynolds, an aunt of the bridegroom, received guests in a beige suit with brown accessories and an orchid corsage.
For traveling the bride chose a tailored suit in royal blue with white accessories and the orchid from her bouquet. She was graduated from Marywood High School and Mount St. Mary’s college, and St. Vincent’s hospital school of nursing.
Her husband is a graduate of Santa Monica High school, Loyola University and USC. He is a teacher with the Los Angeles schools. On return from a Lake Tahoe honeymoon they will reside in Los Angeles.
Kitchen Twins Birthday Honors
The Kitchens twins, Jimmie and Jodie, celebrated their annual party at Anaheim park, Monday, in honor of their seventh birthday.
Mrs. George Kitchens, Jr., 9831 S. Hansen ave., served ice cream and a birthday cake for each twin, supplemented by individual cakes for the guests. As is also the yearly custom, the delicious cakes were made by their close friend and neighbor, Mrs. George Poplowska of 6921 Savanna ave.
The theme of the party was boats. Small sail boats were filled with candies and the guests names were on the sails. The twins are taking swimming lessons at the same park and are very much interested in anything pertaining to the water.
Guests were Charlene and her mother, Mrs. John Cooke, Dickie and Mrs. John Karraker, Mrs. J. E. Pruett and her children, Sammy, Ben Paul, Ruth, Charlotte and Grace, Mrs. Leonard Jennings and her daughter, Karen, Mrs. David Domries and son, Arthur, Donald and David Mabs, all from Stanton; Mrs. Al Hughes and Linda from Anaheim and Mrs. Mildred Weaver with Sammy and Ann, who now live in Los Angeles.
Troop 82 of the Northern Orange County Scout council sent a group to camp at Lake Irvine, under leadership of Scoutmaster Warren Cox of Anaheim.
From Stanton the boys were Richard Byrd, Paul Winters, Richard Pike, Ronald Thomas, John Husselbee, Norman Azzara, David Abeta, Raymond Terry and Johnny Cardenas. Most of the boys stayed six days but as a member of the staff, Cardenas will stay for the entire two week’s encampment.
Several important groups of mammals began making their appearance some 55,000,000 years ago in the Eocene period.

Plants Awarded At Fuchsia Meet
The Orange county branch of the National Fuchsia Society met Tuesday evening in the American Legion hall for a potluck dinner. Nearly 80 members and friends were present.
The meeting opened at 8 p.m. with the reading of the minutes and the treasurer's report. Charles Criss and Mrs. Fay Hoag reported on the progress of the National Fuchsia show to be held at Southern and Pinehurst sts., South Gate, July 7 and 8. Birthday plants, and plants for 10 new members were presented. These were lovely fuchsias donated by President E. E. Hedrick. Connie Woods introduced the visitors.
Mrs. Everette Waymire introduced the speaker for the evening, Joe Littlefield. He displayed a beautiful dark red, hybrid floribunda rose in full bloom. This rose is to be on the market next year. Called Carrousel, it is mildew proof, has fewer thorns and more perfume than other roses and has as many as 20 flowers on one stock. Mr. Littlefield suggested several types of begonias that are easy growing. He warned about keeping tuberous begonias too wet, as that will cause the buds to drop. He showed many lovely shade plants to grow in with the fuchsias and begonias that are planted in the ground.
America had about four million income tax payers before World War II. There are about 56 million now.
