How to make good telephone service even better...
give the operator
1 town you're calling
2 number you want
3 name (if your call is for a specific person)
Faster Long Distance service Maybe you never if you place your call like this thought of it this way, but you can help your Long Distance operator save your time if you give her your call like this: First, the name of the town you're calling. Then the telephone number. And finally the name of the person you're calling—if it's a person call. You'll find this tip particularly helpful these days when Long Distance lines are busy carrying the calls that are aiding our military forces and our industries to build the nation's strength.
Have you started keeping a handy out-of-town number list? You'll find you can save considerable time in completing Long Distance calls if you give the operator the number you want rather than just the name and address. That way, you see, you won't have to wait while she calls "Information" in the distant town to get the number you're calling.

Iranian Premier Appeals for U.S. Intervention
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Premier Mohammed Mossadegh appealed to U.S. Ambassador Henry G. Grady today to try to persuade the British to co-operate in Iran's nationalization of oil.
The alling premier called Grady to his bedside for a talk a few hours before what may be the peak of the oil crisis in this sensitive spot at Russia's side door.
London reports said the British-owned Anglo-Iranian Oil Company will come forward tonight with an offer of 10,000,000,000 pounds ($28,000,000) in answer to Iran's cash demands. This is short of Iran's demands for 75 per cent of the oil profits since March, plus a deposit of the remaining 25 per cent to meet the company's possible compensation claims. AIOC negotiators meet with government officials at 8 p.m., the deadline Iran set for satisfaction of her demands.
But at Abadan, Mossadegh's right hand man, Hossein Maki declared Britain must meet Iran's full demands or "we will shut off the valves" to AIOC's customers and "take over" AIOC tomorrow.
British officials at Abadan, site of the world's biggest refinery, said they felt this the day on which the fate of AIOC is settled.
The British felt that if nothing final is settled at the meeting tonight the back of the crisis will be broken and a way open for eventual settlement.
But if Iran rejects the British cash offer outright, and attempts west would lose control of Persian oil, Europe's chief source.
Ambassador Grady, acting as an unofficial go-between, was working to prevent a decisive blow up at tonight's meeting. He said he told Mossadegh he hoped the Iranians would not break off.
