NEWSWISE—The body of Augustine Guerrero, 25, was recovered from the surf at Newport Beach. He was drowned when caught in a riptide while swimming on Memorial Day. In Santa Ana vandals broke into the Wilford Junior high school and did "several thousand dollar's worth" of damage. It was one of the worst cases of malicious mischief in county school history... Death ended the brilliant newspaper career of Charles Milo Vernon, 60, after a three-year's illness. He was well known throughout Southern California and the Yorba Linda Star under his editorship promoted the Girls Tennis Entry Decided Joanne Kellogg and Pat Santi defeated Mary Flynn and Judy Lamori 6-4, 6-2. In the finals of the qualifying round of the United States Junior Girl's doubles Public Parks Tennis championships to become the first team to gain the right to represent the Anaheim Recreation department in the national finals at Arcadia, from Aug. 8 to Aug. 12. In other matches completed over the week-end Bob Hoskins moved into the semi-finals of the boy's singles by defeating Paul Billow, 6-3, 6-2. Ronnie Legg also reached the semi-finals with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Bob Packard. In the boy's doubles quarterfinals John Simpson and Weston Warwick gave the favored team of Floyd Baker and Dick Hanson a real fight before going down to defeat by a 6-4, 12-10 score. Matches scheduled for this week which will complete the entries in all five events will be: Tuesday, 4 o'clock—quarter finals of the boy's singles between Dick Hanson and Phil Wright. COURTWISE — Jesse Thomas, 34, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the "love triangle" slaying of Charles Letbetter, 39, of Yorba Linda April 7 was sentenced to six months in the county jail and probation for 15 years... Julio Aparicio, 59, convicted axe-pitchfork murderer of his neighbor, Santana Acosta, was to appear before the same jury of nine women and Warwick gave the favored team of Floyd Baker and Dick Hanson a real fight before going down to defeat by a 6-4, 12-10 score.
