cake or Chilled watermelon
You will serve father his favorites of course, and count yourself doubly lucky if they happen to be on this week's list of best buys. The above menu is based on food items that are current and choice in Anaheim markets this week. When you shop at Safeway or Alpha Beta stores, you will find the rib roast really prime, cut from grade A baby beef and well trimmed. The average weight of the hen turkeys are 12 to 14 pounds and they are eviscerated and oven ready.
Other good buys in meat are boneless round steak, tenderized ham, quick frozen eviscerated stewing hens, pork in any form, boiling beef, beef liver and frozen fish.
For our Father's Day dinner, we have suggested a green salad and advertised specials on bunch vegetables as part of the reasons. Any day is a good salad day. The vitamins that can be had for pin money in the form of fresh green and yellow vegetables would cost a small fortune if bought by the bottle. To keep father young beyond his years, treat him often to a tasty salad. A good dressing on the greens will enhance his enjoyment.
GARLIC DRESSING
(made with tomato soup)
1 can tomato soup
1 cup cider vinegar
½ cup oil
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dry mustard
4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon paprika
1 clove garlic
Combine the ingredients in der given and place in a cover jar. Store in the refrigerator, shake the dressing well before using it. If kept more than seven days, remove the garlic. Make about three cups.
FRESH FRUIT
The first of the Royal apricots are coming in from Hemet m Strawberries are still at the luscious best, but in the berry department are beginning to compete from boysenberry and young berries.
Melon season is getting unway with jumbo cantaloupes as the new thin skinned watermelon ripened to a deep red inside, very tasty. Alpha Beta has well chilled on ice. The grape fruit season is on the wane because the supply from Coachella Valley still offers good value and flavor.
If father has a sweet tooth watch for a special on Gold State ice cream, cherry flavored angel food cake, a duo of Alpha Beta folks are planning please poppa and to save mother time in the kitchen.
