Cleveland Continues Win Streak as They Whip Yanks; Bucs on Loss Binge
(By The Associated Press)
Cleveland and Pittsburgh are the latest teams to take off whack at baseball's marathon winning and losing skins as the big leagues continue their "streak of the week" by-play.
The way this capricious campaign has been fluctuating, it would cause no great stir if the American league's 19-game winning streak or the National's string of 19 straight losses were to be wiped off the records.
The New York Yankees began it with eight straight wins. Then came the Boston Red Sox with 10. Chicago's White Sox topped both with 14. Now comes Cleveland with eight in a row.
The Indians made their biggest strides of the season yesterday, sweeping both ends of a double-header from the Yankees, 8-3 and 4-1. Bobby Feller and Bob Lemon pitched eight and four-hitters respectively.
Pittsburgh looks like it is aiming for a streak in reverse. The Pirates were whipped twice by the oncoming Philadelphia Phils, 11-2 and 8-3, to run their string of setbacks to eight straight.
Brooklyn widened its National league lead to four games over St. Louis, sweeping both ends of a twin bill from Chicago's Cubs, 8-3 and 5-2 in 10 innings.
The Giants vaulted into third place, splitting a pair with the Cards. Dave Koslo won a brilliant 1-0 hurling duel from Max Lanier of St. Louis, but the Cards came back to eke out a 4-3 win in the second.
Solons Drop Two Big Ones But Stay Atop
(By The Associated Press)
The Sacramento Solons scored no runs in their two Sunday games but still clung to a half-game lead in the Pacific Coast league.
While Oakland hung a double shutout defeat 6-0 and 5-0 on the Gordonmen, Hollywood used the same score 3-2 to drape a pair of losses on second-place Seattle.
That leaves the Pacific Coast race about as close as a miser's convention. San Diego, in seventh place is only 5½ games behind the leaders.
Good pitching was Oakland's winning ticket. Earl Harrist tossed a seven hitter in the opener and Bill Ayers was one hit stingier in the nightcap.
Pitching was equally fancy at Hollywood where Johnny Lindeli fashioned a three-hitter against the Suds in the opener and Jack Salveson gave up but five in the seven inning finale.
The hapless San Francisco Seals got some Sunday life and two-timed Portland. Lou Burdette tossed a two hitter and Eddie Basinski was the only Beaver to hit. He singled in both the first and ninth as Burdette fashioned a 9 to 0 shutout. The second game

Cincinnati dumped the Braves into a fourth place tie with Chicago, winning twice, 3-1 and 4-2.
Although held even in their two games with Boston, the White Sox improved their American league lead to two full lengths over the runner-up Yankees. The Red Sox won the opener, 7-5 with Chicago walking away with the second 11-2.
Detroit snapped a seven-game losing streak, whipping Washington 10-2, after the Senators had won the opener, 8-4. The Browns and Athletics divided a double-header. Philadelphia won the first game, 7-3, and St. Louis took the second, 2-1.
The year's largest turnout—75,163 paid admissions — saw the Indians hammer six homers off Yankee pitchers, three by Luke Easter. Vic Raschi and Frank Shea were the losers.

Tennis Tourney Attracts Large Local Sign-Up
Entries have been coming in fast for the qualifying tournament of the National Public Parks Junior Tennis championships starting at the City park courts on June 9.
Interest is running high because winners will represent the Anaheim Recreation department in the national finals to be held at Arcadia from August 8 to August 12. Since tournaments carrying national rankings are seldom held in California, the town of Arcadia and the Kiwanis clubs which are promoting the matches have made elaborate plans for entertaining junior players who will be competing from the entire United States. Television shows, visits to Hollywood, free housing, tours to Mt. Wilson, barbeques and vaudeville shows are only part of the treats in prospect.
Almost the entire boy's high school team will be represented in the singles with the following already signed to play: Ronnie Legg, John Haster, Bob Santabanez, Bob Hoskins, Danny Debvec, Floyd Baker, Detter Hessel, Phil Wright, Kick Hanson, David Jordt, Paul Billows, Bob Pickard, Dan Holden, John Simpson, Weston Warwick, Hart Hessel, Ed Fink, Webster Wright, Ed Gallagher, Bill Schneider, and John Hilbers.
Most of the singles players will pair off in doubles, with Baker and Hanson, Hoskins and Holder, Simpson and Warwick, Legg and Seven pitchers entered with no one looking like them. However, starter Tom won the game although he removed in the sixth with fortable lead—21 to 3.

Fullerton Junior Leaguers Win Two from Anaheim 6-5 and 24-5
By Stan Jones
Anaheim's American Legion Post 72 baseball team gave the Fullerton Post 142 team a bad case of litters in their Saturday opener and as a result forced the Fullerton champs to go all out in yesterday afternoon's game which they did in rather murderous fashion before a few dozen spectators.
In the loop opener Saturday at Amorige park in Fullerton, Anaheim held a slight lead going into the last of the ninth inning, but it didn't quite hold up as the powerful hitting loop champs scored two runs on two hits to win—alided by three Anaheim errors in the inning. The final score was 6 to 5 with left handed chucker Gene Rosen receiving the victory.
The two teams concluded the first week of play yesterday at the local park and it looked like the Anaheim team was concluding its season then as they completely succumbed to the tricky pitching of the Fullerton hurlers. Seven pitchers entered the game with no one looking like a winner. However, starter Tom Moore won the game although he was removed in the sixth with a comfortable lead—21 to 3.
Ramella, starter for the local nine, just didn't seem to have it yesterday as he gave up four hits and three runs in the first and two hits and five runs in the second. He gave up 12 earned runs during his 3% innings—the same
