Home and Garden Tour in Fullerton Tomorrow Afternoon
Twelve lovely Fullerton homes are on the itinerary this year of the annual YWCA home and garden tour, providing an extensive and varied program. The event is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, June 2, from one to five p.m.
The modern home of Lt. Commander and Mrs. Charles B. Cotton is decorated in the Chinese motif, inspired by a two year tour of duty in the Orient. The carved oakwood furniture and handmade Chinese rugs are focal points of the interior decoration.
The home and gardens of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Salveson have attracted much admiration. The gray-green shingled house is surrounded by a profusion of flowers and was designed by the Salvesons. The garden features a lath house and a hundred varieties of roses.
The Wallace Riutcel home enjoys a beautiful view to the southeast and is especially interesting. It combines the formality of 18th Century decor with the less formal Provincial style. The den has a used brick fireplace and a beamed ceiling and is furnished in Provincial motif.
Skillful blending of modern concrete block with beautiful antique furniture will be seen at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Booth, Jr. The home is nestled in a lemon grove and faces the La Habra valley, offering marvelous views from many windows.
The James Rutledge home is a gracious development of functional modern. The exterior is finished in redwood and stucco ac-

FOR THE FIRST TIME in years, a brand new "Leg Look" is being launched in hylons. Called "Beauty Spot," these sheer, clear nylon stockings are sold with a separate package of Paris-Inspired beauty spots in 15 amusing shapes. You apply the beauty spots (crescents, hearts, stars, birds, bow and even a little man), right on your leg at ankle, instep or calf and they show through your nylons in peek-a-boo fashion. The effect is that of costly embroidered hose—the advantage is, you can create your own original way of wearing them, either at "see-level" on your ankle or instep—or above the skirt line on your calf to be visible only when you cross your legs.

Personal Mention
The Savanna school is having a "farewell family night," get-together dinner next Wednesday at 6:30. This is the last school function the old school will have with the new school being completed this fall.
Pot luck will be served on the lawn east of the main building with the P-TA serving coffee. There will be movies for the children and adults in the auditorium, square dancing on the lawn and card tables in the teacher's room.
Limited facilities do not permit having "father and son night," and "mother and daughter night" and a "farewell night" also, the three have been combined into one farewell occasion, June 6.
Mr. and Mrs. Rex W. Beach, 703 S. Claudina st., became the parents of a six-pound, thirteenounce daughter May 30, at the St. Joseph hospital.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Garcia, 1311 Logan st., May 29, at Santa Ana Community hospital.
Farewell Party Honors Departing 35 Year Resident
A lovely farewell shower last week honored Mrs. Grace Spielman when Mrs. F. H. Leonard entertained in her home, 120 Kroeger st.
Mrs. Spielman has recently sold her home at 515 E. Broadway and is moving on June 1. She plans to visit her daughter and family, Mrs. Grace Hardin in Needles before settling in her new home.
The afternoon was spent in playing "cootie," with first prize awarded to Mrs. Claudina Clark and consolation to Mrs. Birchfield.
After refreshments had been served, the honoree was gifted with a shower of handkerchiefs with the name or initial of the giver marked on each gift. Cards accompanying them were read and will be placed in Mrs. Spielman's scrap book.
The honoree has resided in the same neighborhood for more than 35 years.
Attending the party were Mrs. Sam Taylor, Mrs. J. W. Hoxie, Mrs. Fred Birchfield, Mrs. Ema Comstock, Mrs. Ann Metzger, Mrs. Claudina Clark, Mrs. Ella Wim-
berly, Mrs. Rose Fatchet, Mrs. Josephine Buschard, Mrs. Mabel Woods and Mrs. Annie Allen. Unable to be present were Mrs. Alta Hochull, Mrs. George Hatfield, Mrs. Dorothy Hall, Mrs. Fred Gregory and daughter, and Miss Verle Wimberly.

Bargain Battle
(Continued from Page 1)
cuts at both stores within a few cents of each other.
Price tags took a beating, hour by hour, and by closing time last night some items were marked down by more than 40 per cent. Thursday closing hour in many city stores is 8 p.m. (EST).
The central buymg front was at Gimbel's and Macy's, but other big stores in New York and Brooklyn hurriedly sliced their prices.
Even the retail "little fellow" entered the fracas. One Bronx storeowner displayed screaming signs — "Price War, All Prices Cut."
"If they want a war," the store-keeper said, "this is a country of free enterprise and we can go them one better, down to the last dustcloth. Who does Macy and Gimbel think they are?"
Here's how some price-fixed merchandise fared in yesterday's price retreat:
Lewyt vacuum cleaner, $89.95 to $62.39; Mixmaster, $46.50 to $29.64; Toastmaster, $23 to $14.72; Springweave men's suit, $49.50 to $30.17; Palm Beach suit, $29.95 to $19.38; best seller novel
(James Jones' "From Here to Eternity"), $4.95 to $2.49.
In the midst of the chaos, Macy's and Gimbel's maneuvered their personnel like good generals. Teletypes flashed the downtown prices to branch stores. They were called out like stock quotations. Then the branches fell in price-line with the parent stores.
Gimbel's price tags took such a beating that the store discarded pen and ink recording and used charcoal markers.
About 98 per cent of the buyers were women, used to the crush of bargain buying.
Muttered one man in Macy's, as he sidestepped female frontal assault on a housewares counter—"I wouldn't last 10 minutes in that mess."
Retailers across the country are watching the big town's retail tussle with some apprehension and still more confidence that it won't last long. Few in other cities were inclined to start the price toboggan rolling.
One dealer said, "If this thing gets out of hand, it's like a pit with no bottom."
One trade guess is that prices will level off at from 8 to 15 per cent below the former price-fixed levels.
