Salt Water Area County Supply Salt water from the Pacific ocean is advancing into the upper ground water supply of Oran county "at rates as great as 7,000 feet a year," according to a report just issued on recent sites by the U.S. Geological Survey. The studies, more recently based upon four observation wells studied last year in a survey conducted in cooperation with the Orange County Water district and the Orange County Flood Control Trust, verified the continued derrunning of "important agricultural areas in the coastal park." Orange county, said the report Engineer A. A. Garrett of the S. Geological Survey. Some 600 acres in the San Ana gap area have been unrun since 1944, said the report copy of which was filed within Orange county cooperating agencies this week. The water district directs Wednesday voted to continue survey another year, if the control district participates as fore. The $5000 cost would be shared by the three agency U.S.G.S. paying half, the two county agencies a fourth cach. Garrett's report reviews stories of the salt water intrusion from 1949 onward, along the line from Scal Beach to Newmaca, and deals with spread of the salt water front inland near Huntington Beach in the South. It said: Camille Allec Pioneer, Dies Camille Allec, 74, born in France, passed away at his home in Durango, Mexico. He was a resident of Northern Orange county around the turn of the century and installed the first telephone lines in Brea. At one time he was employed by the late Edward Atherton on his ostrich farm. He is survived by two sons, Camille Allec, Jr., and Paul Allec of Anaheim. NOTEWORTHY—It was men like Camille Allec who helped build Orange county and make Southern California the place it is today. The Gazetteer has often been asked: "Where do you get those old-time items?" History is where you find it—in obituaries, memories and recollections of the men who lived history. On December 26, 1934, Edward Atherton died in the 74th year of his life at his home in Fullerton that was once the original ostrich farm in the United States. Atherton was born in South Africa and came to Southern California in 1886 to establish his ostrich farm. In those days ostrich plumes were the height of millady's fashions. No hat was complete without such luxurious plumes. The Athertons did a thriving business until fashion changed and lady's hats and fans became less ornate. PROGRESS—Musty old copies of Santa Ana newspapers tell of the development of Brea as a commercial center about the time Allec helped to install the first telephone system. Brea was a typical oil town and was dependent primarily on the development of its rich mineral resources for its growth and prosperity. Its development was encouraged by Fullerton civic leaders, who in those days as now, shyed from industrial payrolls. Whitsunday morning services are 8 a.m., Holy Communion; 9:30 a.m., Church School Communion, and 11 a.m., Communion with the sermon topic, "The Work of the Holy Spirit." On Monday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m., the annual church birthday party will be held in the Parish house with Jeffrey Palin as master of ceremonies. Mother's Day at Grace Lutheran Sunday, May 13, will be a festive day in Grace Lutheran's church year, for not only will Mother's Day be observed, but there will also be Confirmation of six young people of the congregation, baptism of children, and reception of new members. In addition, Holy Communion will be celebrated. At both the 8:15 and 10:45 morning services Pastor Stief will speak on the topic, "What Does Your Faith Need?" Mrs. Mary Heinze will sing "Special Tribute to Mothers" at the 8:15 service, and the senior choir will sing "Thank God For Mothers" at the 10:45 service. In addition, the combined choirs of Grace Lutheran will sing "Consecration" at the 10:45 service. Civic Progress (Continued from Page 1) animalsm fostered by the reading of cheap, sensational reading matter which floods the bookstands today and easily available to and consumed by the youth we try so hard to protect. Dr. Mosseley warned his listeners that over the pages of history are written the stories of the rise and decline of governments and people. He said there is every indication this historical cycle is continuing today. The people of this nation, Dr. Mosseley pointed out, must take stock of themselves and their government and take steps to avoid the collapse which has been recorded so many times in history. Maybe we ought to check up at home on the elements which... listed what is considered as Five M's in industry, each being utilized in re-mobilization for any emergency to Money, machinery, materials and management for what is designated as day," day of emergency. Over the Berlin airlift in World War II it was seen that assembling the remainder of surplus materials and bringing them in reserve, now become one. The country's great working man is being utilized already. Utilization of manpower, both men and women and the "reliable workers" is well under way in war and emergency employments. This is being done," says Mr. DALS at WORK. An unidentified person or perhaps night shot two holes on a temporary power meter in the new Daystorm Furniture building, now under caution at 116 W. Elm st. The glass and into the meter's works. CRITICISM—It happened yesterday. The Old Gazetteer was criticized for praising Brea's most civic-minded, progressive industrialist who for some reason or other doesn't want praise for his many good deeds. But in such turbulent times as these, it is the good work of such men who renew one's faith in the goodness of mankind. The Gazetteer shall continue to praise the deserving as long as there is ink on his typewriter ribbon. NITECAPSULE—It's absurd to think a politician would buy votes—with his own money. White Temple National Family Week will be observed at White Temple Methodist church on Sunday evening, at the regular 7 p.m. worship service, with the showing of two humorous but thought-provoking film-strips: "No Place Like Home" and "Home Can Be Fun." The former is a cartoon version of James Lee Ellenwood's amusing book on the problems of family living, under the same title. The latter shows ways in which both parents and youth can find genuine pleasure in the possibilities of home entertainment. "With the divorce rate steadily increasing and with the rising problems of juvenile delinquency, anything which can be done to rediscover the American home is a spiritual event," states Rev. Frank E. Butterworth pastor. "This special Mother’s Day service is a sincere attempt to point out the undiscovered country in the home."
