ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
Korean War
(Continued from Page 1)
started the defeat of communism's grasp for world power.
Armored patrols stabbed into Munsan, 21 miles northwest of Seoul, after wiping out a Korean red threat to flank the rubbled republican capital. Another tank column punched within 10 miles of Parallel 38, 19 miles north of Seoul and eight miles north of Uliongbu.
General Ridgway, supreme Allied commander replacing General MacArthur, said that history possibly will record that the U.N. action in Korea has broken "the crest of the communist wave."
Tanks and South Korean infantrymen hunted through Munsan without opposition, then withdrew.
Elsewhere along the 100 mile front the greatest obstacles encountered by probing tank patrols were mine fields covered by small arms fire.
Chinese armies are "wilting on the vine" because of lack of supplies, said Lt. Gen. Edward M. Almond, commander of the U.S. 10th Corps.
The reds have withdrawn to keep out of range of U.N. artillery. Nevertheless, Almond cautioned, they presumably are preparing for another attack.
"We are prepared for them," he said. "We are killing large quantities of the enemy and will kill them in the future."

In California he gives a figure of $190 million to date issued in these certificates of which Southern California has approximately $102 million of that sum.
At tonight's Fifth Annual Community Planning banquet, Southland's Planning banquet meeting of the year, held at the Anaheim Elks club banquet hall, beginning at 7 p.m. An outstanding program is promised with guest speaker Dr. John O. Moseley of Chicago, immediate past president of the University of Nevada.
The brink of Iguassu Falls in South America is 2½ miles wide.
COMMENTARY—Jerry Huss, a toddler, was hit by a car the other day. Frank Fregoso was knocked down by a car backing from a parking space: Accidents will happen, but they're happening much too frequently. Be careful! Don't take chances. Five children were traffic victims in San Diego in less than a month. That's useless slaughter. Kids deserve a better break than to have their lives snuffed out almost before they have a chance to live. Do your part. Drive carefully! It pays. Insurance rates are figured on accident frequency figures for your locality. Consequently, accidents in Orange county—regardless of where they happen—cost you money in insurance fees.
HEADLINERS—Jack Hill, one-time movie drummer, is a draftsman designing pumps. "I like it fine. Pleasant work. Regular hours." ... Ray Berney is still marking time. Like a lot of reservists, the Cone Chevrolet salesman doesn't know if he's in or out. "I'm working on borrowed time. I may not be around to collect my next paycheck." ... Major Le-Roy Clark is in. He's making quite a record for himself in the skies over Korea ... Ray Holt is too busy opening branch libraries at Pomona to write history ... Mrs. Emma Cole joined the Native Daughters of the Golden West ... Larry Freer's pistol has been recovered. Someone, shall we say, "borrowed" it a month ago. Postmaster Louis Hoskins took it to the police department after it was "found" in a mailbox. A lot of things — other than mail — find their way into mallboxes ...
Signed—Clindy Garner (above), once had aspirations to become a newspaperwoman. In fact, she studied journalism in her home town of High Point, N. C., and worked on a weekly paper. But the lure of Hollywood overcame the typewriter and she was recently signed to a seven-year motion picture contract.

NEWSNOTE—The CIO people are trying to organize the Daystrom folks who thumbs downed the union idea a year or so ago. Mimeographed literature says the pinks have been weeded out of the union. When exposed, the fellow travelers denied their crimson views. They didn't fool the workers, though.
PEOPLE—Where's Elmer? If you mean Elmer Belding, the general Orangethorper, he's working for Uncle Sam's... Joe White, a former Anaheim window washer, is doing highly technical work in Ellay. It's hush-hush stuff... Speaking of intricate work reminds us that Clifford Shaw has one of those brain truster's jobs. He sets up complicated mathematical problems for one of those calculating, electronic brains to compute. Cliff's work is so secret, that ways and means are taken to keep the help from talking in their sleep... Ben Agalianan probably knows more sports celebrities than any other Annheimer... Dick Craft and Jack Morgan won awards in the Fullerton motorcade last week... Another Anaheim winner was Lloyd Marshall... Freddie Woodward won recognition for his automotive handwork in the event staged so successfully by Dick Crane, the Fullerton-Ana-
heim ambulance man . . .
VIGNETTE — An Anahelmer whose name we won't mention told his wife that he was going to see Hoppe. His small fry over-eared him and proudly told the kids at school, "My daddy's going to see Hoppy today." . .
When papa came home the youngsters ran to meet him, "Did you see Hoppy today, 'daddy?' ... Mmm-hmm-mi Why?" ... "What he say? What he say, daddy?" ... "Ten dollars! And the next time be more careful; don't drive through a red light." ... The youngster was dejected. His father hadn't seen Hopxlong Cassidy, but he had been over to see Judge Gurman Hoppe, the police judge.

LOCUSTS MENACE AFRICA
TRIPOLI, Tripolitania, UP — Swarms of locusts resembling thunder clouds are reported to have brought desert caravans of camels to a standstill. The reports came from Derg in the interior. Large swarms of locusts are reportedly on the move toward the north African coastline from the Nigerian and Gold Coast area.
