For Results and Quick 5 Anaheim Gazette TUESDAY, MAY 8, 1961 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Kwikset Honors Its Employees At Get-Together Kwikset Locks, Inc., one of Anaheim's leading industrial plants, and one of the nation's leading lock manufacturers, celebrated the company's sixth anniversary Saturday evening, with an all-employee meeting in the Anaheim Union High school auditorium. Together with their husbands and wives, most of Kwikset's "team" of nearly 600 employees attended the meeting to witness the presentation of service certificates and pins to 89 veteran members. Of the 89, 14 were honored for their record of five years service with the young company. The others had completed three years service. The awards were made by Adolf Schoepe, Kwikset president, and Karl Reinhard, vice-president. "Just six years ago, there were only two of us," Schoepe commented, referring to himself and Reinhard. He congratulated the "veterans" who have stayed with the firm through the many years. By JEANNINE PANNIER Well, it's time for me to get down to business again and tell you all about the things we've been doing at AUHS this past week... To start things off I'll tell you about the petitions that have been going around school. What kind of petitions? Petitions for student body officers, that's what! Requirements for the office seekers are that they must have a 'C' average and a merit record of not lower than 90. All petitions have to be turned in by next Monday and the feeling of competition is getting strong already. All Connies and Clems are being threatened with the loss of the their precious recreation period due to the ever cluttered campus. If the grounds are messy one day the next morning there will be no recreation period. This move was decided by the student council, and is hoped to be effective enough to warrant a clean campus... Our ever busy AUHS Red Cross council last week sent seven cartons of 100 filled boxes to the American Red Cross for Razor Victim (Continued from Page 17) to protect herself. The child began to scream, she said she tore the screen from a window with her hands and began scream for help. Martin allegedly forced him the floor again and after slapping her some more, ran from house. David Welton was sent for distance. One man, who had lied to children crying and Mrs. Timin's screams, ran to her attention, but was too late to interact with the attacker. He told police he a dark-haired man bending in, the back room as he heard screams. A neighbor woman hid the screams, but was afraid investigate. She said she saw attacker leave the Martin home however. Martin was arrested at a.m., by Officers Ed Brawn Richard Hoag in the Sunkist 107 S. Adams st. They said had a strong odor of alcohol his breath and had difficulty keeping his balance. A black shirt, white slip, towel and green bedspread, them slashed and bloody, taken from the Martin home police to be kept as evidence. Time of arraignment for tin has not been set as yet Police Lieutenant T. V. Ta for their record of five years service with the young company. The others had completed three years service. The awards were made by Adolf Schoepe, Kwikset president, and Karl Reinhard, vice-president. "Just six years ago, there were only two of us," Schoepe commented, referring to himself and Reinhard. He congratulated the "veterans" who have stayed with the firm through the years since it was established in Los Angeles, and moved to Anaheim, and credited their loyal teamwork for the company's success and rapid growth. Many other Kwikset employees who qualified for admission to the company's pension plan were welcomed at the meeting. Highlight of the gathering was a talk by Harry E. Blythe, adviser to the chairman of the Munitions board, president of STD, Inc., and former Goodyear Rubber and Aircraft executive. Kwikset's amazing expansion is unique, even in American industrial history. Blythe said; but the important thing to remember, he pointed out, is that nowhere in the world would it have been possible, except under the American system of free enterprise. Kwikset employees also were honored by the American National Red Cross, represented by Mrs. P. H. Nelson, Anaheim blood program chairman, who presented a certificate of appreciation to Kwiksetters for their "outstanding co-operation" with the blood program. Mrs. Nelson said that on a percentage basis, Kwikset's response to blood bank visits topped donations made by any industrial plant in the United States, and that the number of women donors was particularly outstanding in this regard, according to reports received from national headquarters of the Red Cross. The audience also heard a report made by Bernard D. Cirlin, on an employee survey conducted last December. Color slides illustrated Kwiksetters' opinions of their company, their working conditions and their jobs. The results of secret ballotting showed overwhelming majorities in favor of being threatened with the loss of the their precious recreation period due to the ever cluttered campus. If the grounds are messy one day the next morning there will be no recreation period. This move was decided by the student council, and is hoped to be effective enough to warrant a clean campus... Our ever busy AUHS Red Cross council last week sent seven cartons of 100 filled boxes to the American Red Cross for shipment to Korea. This is the same number that our chapter sent last fall... What is the closest thing to a high school girl's heart (next to boys)? What is a fashion show about? You guessed it. Clothes. 'A day of a girls life' was the theme of a fashion show sponsored by the Sophomore Tri-Hi-Y club in the AUHS band room last Tuesday night at 7:00 o'clock. The clothes were supplied by Clarice and the SQR stores and modeled by the girls. Next Wednesday there will be even another one of these popular shows, and the mothers are especially invited to come too. It will be given by the Home Ec department and the clothes to be modeled were made by students... "Revolt In Rhythm" is the name of the forthcoming operetta to be given in the auditorium Friday, May 18. The money from the show will finance scholarships for music students to go to the Idyllwild Institute of Arts... The state convention of the Future Business Leaders of America was held at Rosemead high school Saturday, April 28, and 15 Anaheim delegates attended. Ronnie Bevins of Anaheim, state vice-president presented the newly drawn up constitution to a group of 800 delegates at the business meeting. He and Ernie Huene-meyer, also of Anaheim, had been responsible for writing of the constitution... That's all I can think of for now, but I'll be back again next week with more news for you. Because the firm was one of Anaheim's first, the advertisements will feature interesting incidents from Anaheim's history before and after the loan company was founded in 1889. "We hope the advertisements will tell the people the story of Anaheim and its past as well as let them know the benefits of our home owned and operated organization," Robert Borden, assistant secretary of the Savings, Loan and Building Assn., said. The advertisements will carry artists' illustrations of landmarks and events which were mileposts in Anaheim's past. Be Happy, Girls Or You May be An Old Spinster LOS ANGELES (AP)—Get happy, girls, unless you want to wind up an old maid. Beauty and brains are not enough. Neither is good home cooking. Dr. H. K. Moore, Arkansas A. and M. college psychologist, has blasted some of the old notions about why Aunt Minnie never married. Dr. Moore compared 176 wives and 176 spinsters on a list of 104 traits. His findings: Both groups are about equal in beauty, intelligence and enjoyment of housekeeping. But the spinsters seldom smile. The study found that the old maids are not a happy group. Furthermore, the spinster has an unhappy disposition, fears sex and childbirth, and is a self-centered fault-finder who always wants to have her own way. Dr. Moore's results are published in an article in Family Life, the monthly organ of the American Institute of Family Relations here. He writes that the spinsters' trouble is that they were educated too much for careers instead of for marriage. As a result, the old maid finds it hard to treat men naturally—she is likely either to appear indifferent or over-anxious when men notice her. The study did not point out whether the spinsters were unhappy and unsmilling because they were spinsters. Razor Victim (Continued from Page 1) protect herself. The children can to scream, she said, and store the screen from a window with her hands and began to scream for help. Martin allegedly forced her to floor again and after slashing some more, ran from the rise. David Welton was sent for asstance. One man, who had heard children crying and Mrs. Marrs screams, ran to her assistce, but was too late to intercept attacker. He told police he saw mark-haired man bending over the back room as he heard the creams. A neighbor woman heard creams, but was afraid to estigate. She said she saw the tricker leave the Martin home, ever. Martin was arrested at 2:45 by Officers Ed Brawn and Gard Hoag in the Sunkist cafe, S. Adams st.
