Warren Says End Colorado Water Dispute SACRAMENTO (UP) — The dispute over rights to Colorado river water should be settled as soon as possible before the U.S. Supreme court, Governor Warren says. California stands ready to put the question to the high court, he said in a statewide radio address last night. In fact, Warren declared, he suggested in 1947 that the dispute be settled by either Supreme court adjudication, arbitration or an interstate compact. “If we had taken the matter to the Supreme court in 1947, we probably would have had the matter settled by this time.” Commenting on a Congressional committee’s vote not to consider the central Arizona project until Colorado river water rights are settled, Warren asserted: “I can’t speak for Arizona but I can say California stands ready to carry out the committee’s suggestion.” The committee suggested either Supreme court adjudication or arbitraton. “The Colorado river controls the destiny of Southern California” Bob Feller (Continued from Page 2) has surrendered only four runs and 21 hits in 27 innings. The victory kept the Indians in a first-place tie with Washington. The Senators overcame an 8-3 deficit to outlast the Browns in a 13-biting night affair at St. Louis. 9-6 Mickey Vernon’s homer off Cliff Fannin, broke up the game. Mickey Harris was the winner. The St. Louis Cardinals took undisputed possession of first place in the National League, whipping Johnny Sain and the Braves under the Boston lights, 5-2. The Braves managed to hold on to second place when Pittsburgh upset the Dodgers in Brooklyn, 6-2. The Phillies tied the Dodgers for third, shading the Cincinnati Reds in a Philadelphia night game, 6-5. New York’s awakening Giants made it two in a row with a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs in a Polo grounds evening encounter. New York’s Yankees stayed close on the heels of the American League leaders, tripping the White Sox in Chicago, 8-3. The collarite Philadelphia Athletics rallied for eight runs in the 11th inning to route the Tigers in Detroit, 9-1, and end their 10-game losing streak. The largest crowd of the season, 53,462 Ians, saw Larry Doby and Harvey (Susan K.) play. BOYS INVADE HOME Ivan Wood, 700 S. Helena st., reported yesterday that six juvenile boys had invaded his home in the absence of everyone except his daughter, Patty, and confiscated two pounds of cheese, two quarts of beer and some bottled coke. They refused to leave at the request of his daughter and so she took refuge at the home of her grandmother. She was able to identify two of the boys. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. P-1052 CERTIFICATE OF PARTNERSHIP TRANSACTING BUSINESS UNDER PRIORITY NAME We understand that we have formed a partnership for the purpose of conducting a directory business at 2041 East Fourth Street, in the City of Santa Ana Orange County, California, under the fictitious firm name and style of THE DIRECTORY SERVICE CO. That the full names of the members of said partnership and their respective places of residence are followed. JAMES R. LUSKEY, 109 East San Antonio Drive, Long Beach 7, California. R. LEE LUSKEY, 1376 Flower Street, Anaheim, California. WITNESS our hands this 9th day of April, 1951. JAMES R. LUSKEY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA COUNTY OF ORANGE On this 9th day of April, 1951, before me, Leo J. Prills, a Notary Public in and for said County and State, residing therein, duly commissioned and sworn personally appeared James R. Luskey and R. Lee Luskey, known to me to be the persons whose names are subscribed to—the within instrument—and acknowledged—to-me that they executed the same. WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal the day and year in this certificate first above written. al committee's vote not to consider the central Arizona project until Colorado river water rights are settled. Warren asserted. "I can't speak for Arizona but I can say California stands ready to carry out the committee's suggestion." The committee suggested either Supreme court adjudication or arbitration. "The Colorado river controls the destiny of Southern California, southern Nevada and Arizona," Warren said. "There is going to be need for every drop of water that flows in the Colorado river." To choose to further delay the determination of water rights is to choose a course which can not help but be injurious to some parts of one or both of the states involved." Warren said the next step to a court decision is passage of resolutions before Congress calling for the United States to be party to the proposed suit. California and Nevada legislators have joined in introducing the resolutions. New York's Yankees stayed close on the heels of the American League leaders, tripping the White Sox in Chicago, 8-3. The cellarite Philadelphia Athletics rallied for eight runs in the 11th inning to route the Tigers in Detroit, 9-1, and end their 10-game losing streak. The largest crowd of the season, 53,462 fans, saw Larry Doby and Harry (Suffcase) Simpson lead the Indians. Doby batted in three runs with a single and double. Simpson got two hits and scored twice. Bill Wight lost his third straight game. Home runs by Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra helped Vic Raschi gain his third victory for the Yankees. Orestes Minoso obtained from Cleveland, made his White Sox debut with a two-run homer his first time at bat. The Yankees played without Joe DiMaggio, who rested a stiff neck. Rookle Lou Limmer's three-run double sparked the Athletics eight-run uprising against loser Dizzy Trout and Gene Bearden. Hank Wyse was the winner. Anaheim is a beautiful city. I love its picturesque parks, its magnificent trees and its clean, wide avenues. As a home-maker, I find Anaheim a pleasant place in which to live. If I sound contented it is because my neighbors are friendly, my children's schools are good, the climate is mild, and when I go shopping, I can always find a place to park! Something for Baby The home-maker is usually the purchasing agent for her family, and for that reason, I find that shopping takes a good bit of my time. And in twenty-five words or less, I choose to shop in Anaheim because: the shopping center is convenient and there are a minimum of shopping hazards encountered while reaching it within an evening encounter. And by no means the least of it are those wonderful free parking spaces. Now is a particularly good time to shop in Anaheim for babies' needs because in honor of National Baby Week, special values are featured. As a special event during Baby Week, the S.Q.R. Store is giving free to some lucky person a lovely bassinet. No purchase is necessary and you do not have to be there for the drawing. Simply sign your name and address on a card when you visit S.Q.R.'s Baby Shop any time during Baby Week (April 27-May 5). If your name is selected at the drawing on Saturday afternoon, May 5, at four o'clock, you will be notified by phone or mail. S.Q.R.'s extensive Baby Shop is located on the second floor and carries a full line of clothing and accessories for infants and toddlers in nationally known brands. The special values offered during Baby Week make it a good time to stock up on future baby shower gifts. Sewing Problems When you have sewing problems, Mariene Cooper is the person to see. She is the sewing instructor at the Singer Sewing Machine Company at 170 W. Center st. Miss Cooper has been trained by her company to pass on the latest sewing methods. She has proved over and over again that one of the best ways to relieve the strain on the family budget is to learn to sew. Under her direction, the Anaheim Branch of the Singer Sewing Machine Company offers fundamental and advanced courses in home sewing. You can learn to make drapes, bedspreads, curtains, recover furniture. In the complete wardrobe making course, you make a dress while you learn. The two hour classes meet one day each week and there are classes in the morning, afternoon and evening. On Saturday morning there is a special interest class for teen-agers. For complete information, Anaheim 4619 is the number to call.
