ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
Colonist and Indian Baseball Teams Tangle Friday on Fullerton Diamond
Tomorrow afternoon Anaheim high school head baseball coach John Wallin takes his team to Fullerton to tangle with the co-league defending champs in the second game of the league race of 1981.
Both teams possess a similar lineup as both are loaded with juniors and sophomores. The Colonists have only one senior to do the Indians — Peterson for the Colonists and catcher Jack Ramsey of Fullerton. But the similarity of the two teams ends right there, other than they both have nine on each side.
Whereas Anaheim has played 13 games and won two, Fullerton has lost only five while beating such power houses as Compton Ponona, Long Beach Jordan and Montebello. Leading the Fullerton attack will be triple star athlete Duanne Pennington, who was runner up in the batting department last season in league games.
Other league games will find Newport Harbor going to Santa Ann and Huntington Beach journeying to Orange. Games start at 3 p.m.
Probable starting lineups:
ANAHEIM—FULLERTON—Coast NS McGaughey 2B
Hawaii 2B Schalmer 1R
Maukerson RF Palila RF
Stephenson LF Pennington CF
Herbert C Ramsey C
Hattie 1B Schade 1B
Beavers Shake Blues; Keep 2 Game PCL Lead
By The Associated Press
Portland has shaken off a five-game losing streak and the Beavers today are two games ahead of the pack in the Pacific Coast League race.
Bill Sweeney's boys scored 100 runs in the first inning against San Francisco last night and edged the last place Seals, 5 to 3. Joe Brovia's homer accounted for two of the tallies.
Oakland nosed out Sacramento, 6 to 5, and Seattle turned back Hollywood again, 8 to 3. Wet grounds halted Los Angeles and San Diego.
Chester Chef Johnson San Francisco pitcher started off wildly against Portland. He gave up a single to Ed Barr. Eddie Basinski, the liddling second baseman, drew a walk, and when Leo Thomas bunted, Johnson picked up the ball and threw wildly to third, two runs scoring Bob Thurmond homered for the Seals in the fourth.
Shortstop Bill Jonnings singled in the ninth to drive in Joe Lafata with the winning run for Oakland against Sacramento. It was quite a night for Jonnings All-Star.

What's wrong with this picture?
Tom Poholsky pitches St. Louis Cards into first place. New York Giants sink into cellar with seventh straight loss.
This is the year the weary old Cards were supposed to fade away. Wasn't their fifth place finish of last year the tipoff? With manager Marty Marion on the inactive list, they were sure to be left in the starting gate.
Pennant talk flooded the Giants training camp at St. Petersburg. Leo Durocher had each of his pitchers go the route in two practice games to get ready for a fast start.
But nothing is sure in baseball as Giant fans sadly are discovering. Nothing Durocher does works. The hitters don't hit; the fielders don't field. Even his ace, Larry Jansen, has lost his last two starts.
There is near panic in the Polo Grounds as the Giants stumble home for a series with Boston and a trip to Brooklyn before the western teams move in.
And St. Louis reflects enthusiasm for the stout complete game pitching of Poholsky, Max Lanier and Harry Brecheen who have allowed the enemy a total of two runs in the last 27 innings.

Anaheim Puts Four in Swim Meet Placings
Santa Ana qualified 16 swimmers yesterday afternoon to top runner-up — Fullerton's Indians with four in the Sunset League Swimming Preliminaries in Anaheim's pool.
Santa Ana, defending league champ, threw all their swimmers in the varsity meet as they qualified, only one in the Bee meet and none in the Class Cee meet. Huntington Beach led in the Bee meet due to Gene "Buddy" Belisher's outstanding swimming with 145 qualifiers. Newport ranked second with 18; Fullerton nine; Anaheim two and Santa Ana one.
In the Class Cee meet Huntington's Oilers topped all teams by placing nine swimmers. Newport trailed with eight. Fullerton four, Anaheim two and Santa Ana none.
Colonist sprinter, Leonard Weaver, captured his heat of the varsity 50 yard free style in easy fashion with a speedy 25.8s. timing. It was good enough to qualify him in a tie for first with Santa Ana's Russ Murphy who had just won his heat in 25.8s.
Dick Wagoner, Anaheim's ace distance free styler, qualified fifth in the varsity 200 yard free style with the time 2m.27.1s. Dale Moist ranked third in the varsity 100 yard backstroke with the time of 1m.25.1s. His team mate, Ladig, was fourth with a time story that no record kept when the president and Arthur conferred alone at group meeting. Mr. Truman that ingression may be correct but he added smilingly he have documented the man himself.
He said he could not answer statement in the story that Arthur had apologized to him embarrassing him on the Foul issue.
The president then went on say that a great deal of interest will come that MacArthur still has no idea why he was relieved, the president replied jerseyly, everybody else knows why.
The president first said he would not comment when asked about a New York Times story by Anthony Leviero purporting to reveal from documented sources what took place at last October's Wake Island conference.
Regarding a statement in the new.
It was good enough to qualify him in a tie for first with Santa Ana's Russ Murphy who had just won his heat in 25.8s.

Several Class Bee league records fell in yesterday's rain meadow Preston swam the 50 yard free style in 25.9s to break the old 1942 mark set by Ross of Huntington in 26.2s. Preston is from Newport. Tom Wigginton of Huntington was timed for the 100 yard breast stroke in 1m.09.4s breaking the old record of 1m.14.2s set by Fullerton's Jim Nordin in 1947.
Gene "Buddy" Belshe set two new records. He broke his year-old 200 yard free style mark of 2m.12.9s, with his speedier 2m.10.2s, and won the 100 yard free style in 57.9s to break the 1940 mark set by Swofer of Fullerton in 59.8s.

NEW YORK — Thirteen-year-old Arthur MacArthur probably will bat 1000 with every baseball-minded kid in America—he's been hobbobbing in the dressing room of the world champion New York Yankees.
The son of the general went to Yankee stadium yesterday. Dan Topping, president of the Bronx Bombers, gave Arthur a Yankee cap and took him into the dressing room to meet the players before the Yankee-Athletics game.
The quiet, courteous Arthur lost his shy reserve for a moment after he saw an old friend, Joe DiMaggio. Arthur and Joe had met in Tokyo when DiMaggio and a group of ball players toured the Pacific military bases.
Joe gave the boy an autographed bat.
Arthur's eyes sparkled.
"Gee, for me?" he cried. "Gee, thanks!"
A few days ago, young Arthur hobbobbed with the Giants.

The president then went on to say that a great deal of information of interest will come out of the Senate hearings. He recalled a private investigation into the conflict of the Civil War after the battle of Gettysburg. In that connection, he remarked that Gener-George Meade was abused like pickpocket.
Mr. Truman added the comment that history seems to be relating itself and what has happened in the last few weeks is not new.
