Civil Defense Fund Drive Successful At Orangethorpe Successful launch of a campaign for raising funds for civil defense was announced at a joint gathering of the Orangethorpe District council and wardens, held last night at Orangethorpe school. Evidence that the general public is aware of local civil defense needs was revealed by Robert Clark, district assistant coordinator. All residents were urged to attend the general public meeting, Thursday April 26, at 7:30 p.m. Orangethorpe school auditorium. Dr. George Poole, medical director for the district will speak on "Fear" in relation to current world crises. Is 8th Army Luring Reds Into a Trap? By ELTON C. FAY Associated Press Military Affairs Reporter WASHINGTON—Are the red forces pushing their way into a spot where the Eighth Army can unleash mass-killing blows? Or is the long-anticipated communist offensive bigger and more powerful than that for which the defenders planned? Lt. Gen. James A. Van Fleet, Eighth Army commander, said late last week, just before the red jumped off on their offensive, that he thought the enemy would like to make another try and "if he does, we are ready for him." In this, Van Fleet was expressing a view which has been put forth for several weeks at the Pentagon—that if the enemy chose to attack he was in for a surprise from increased firepower and armor. This firepower — from Allied artillery and Allied planes — was White and Gray Green and Black Make Big Deal BUBOIS, Pa., (P) — Attorney Leo Brockbank saw everything but red while closing a real estate deal. Here's what happened: Rolland and Mary White sold their property to John and Nancy Gray. John Green, William G Brown and Charles Black with nessed the transaction. Brockbank says blue ink was used. Trojans Take a 10-5 Ball Game LOS ANGELES (P)—A six-run splurge in the seventh inning spoiled Loyola's chances of upsetting Southern California and the Trojans went on to score a 10-5 triumph in a practice baseball game yesterday. Pitcher Bob Brazelton was the victim of the heavy attack while USC pitcher Tom Lovrich kept Loyola in check during the five innings he toiled. USC plays California in a college league game Friday. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. Anaheim Gazette, April 11, 18, 1951.) NOTICE OF TRUSTEE'S SALE TD FCL 90-3176 On May 7, 1951, at Eleven o'clock A.M., at the South entrance of the Orange County Court House, in the City of Santa Ana, California, Bank of America National Trust and Savings Association made a notice of which recorded on November 30, 1950, in Book 2108, Page 484 of Official Records of Orange County, California, given to secure an indebtedness in favor of GEORGE WEATHERLY and ANNA B. WEATHERLY, husband and wife, as joint tenants by reason of the breach of certain obligations secured by notice of which recorded on November 30, 1950, in Book 2108, Page 484 of Official Records of Orange County, will sell at public auction to the highest bidder for cash, payable in lawful money of the United States, at time of sale, without covenant or warranty, express or implied, as to title, possession or encumbrances, the interest conveyed to the said Truster under said Deed of Trust, in aid of the following described property situated in the County of Orange, State of California, to-wit: Lots 12 and 14 of Anaheim Home Tract, ip the City of Anaheim, County of Orange, State of California, as per map thereof recorded in Book 6, Page 34 of Miscellaneous Maps, records of said Orange County. For the purpose of paying obligations secured by said Deed of Trust, including fees, charges and expenses of the Trustee, advances, if any, under the terms said Deed of Trust and interest thereon, and $785.00 in unpaid principal of the note secured by said Deed of Trust, with interest thereon at five per cent per annum, from October 17, 1974, to the date of sale. In this Van Fleet was expressing a view which has been put forth for several weeks at the Pentagon—that if the enemy chose to attack he was in for a surprise from increased firepower and armor. This firepower — from Allied artillery and Allied planes—was killing droves of the enemy, an estimated 11,000 in the first night and day of the new offensive on the western front alone. But there were indications of reappearance of a problem the Allies had encountered before in the 10 months of Korean fighting —too much enemy. He was throwing an estimated 500,000 Chinese and North Koreans into the offensive while at the same time building up steadily the pressure on the western sector which guards Seoul and the important port of Inchon. Military leaders here and in the theater had been almost certain for weeks that the enemy would attempt a general offensive. During that time Allied air reconnaissance had disclosed a heavy buildup of enemy armies in reserve. Thousands of trucks were seen daily rolling down from supply sources far up on the northeast Siberian border of North Korea and from the Yalu river boundary area. Thus, the big scale attack this time was nothing like the surprise the U.N. forces received last fall when the Chinese communists swarmed into the Korean war from Manchuria and hurled the Allies back well below the 38th Parallel. For these reasons Van Fleet's forces should be in relatively better readiness to contain the deep penetration the reds have driven into the U.N. line—if the firepower of which leaders have talked can outweigh the ponderous mass of communist troops beating famically ahead. In the months of comparative quiet since the war rolled to a standstill in the area of the 38th Parallel, the communists have been re-equipping and supplying Cemeteries LOMA VISTA MEMORIAL PARK Fullerton, California Endowed for "Perpetual Care" Phone Fullerton 158 Res. CERTIFICATE OF PARTNERSHIP TRANSACTING BUSINESS UNDER A FICTITIOUS NAME We the undersigned... do hereby certify that we have formed a partnership for the purpose of conducting a directory business at 2041 East Fourth Street, in the City of Santa Ana, Orange County, California, under the fictitious firm hame and style of THE DIRECTORY SERVICE CO. That the full names of the members of said partnership and their respective places of residence are as follows: JAMES R. LUSKEY 105 East San Antonio Drive, Long Beach 7, California R. LEE LUSKEY 1878 Plower Street, Anaheim, California. WITNESS our hands this 8th day of April, 1951. JAMES R. LUSKEY, R. Lee Luskey, STATE OF CALIFORNIA COUNTY OF ORANGE On this 8th day of April, 1951, before me Leo J. Frida, Notary Public in and for said County and State, residing therein, duly commissioned and sworn, personally appeared James R. Luskey and R. Lee Luskey, known to me to be the persons whose names are subscribed to the within instrument, and acknowledged to me that they executed the same. IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal the day and year in this certificate that have written. LEO J. FRIDA Notary Public in and for said County and State. My commission expires December 30, 1954. (BOTTICAL SEAL) In the months of comparative quiet since the war rolled to a standstill in the area of the 38th Parallel, the communists have been re-equipping and supplying troops as well as building up manpower. How much heavy equipment and air power was going into this preparation? Communiques have pointed out that no enemy air power or tanks had been seen in "direct support" of the offensive. This didn't mean the enemy might not have such weapons in readiness, to throw them in if the old Asiatic style of winning by sheer weight of numbers, and with disregard for casualties, began to show signs of faltering. Reports from the front at the outset of the offensive mentioned heavy artillery fire. However, it was not clear whether this referred to the amount of fire or to the caliber of the guns. Until now, the reds have used little if any "heavy" artillery, their guns being of types rated as light by American Army standards.
