Missionary Speaks To Church Groups WSCS and the Ladies Aid of the Evangelical United Brethren church met at the home of Mrs. E. H. Brunemeier in Placentia recently under the direction of president, Mrs. R. C. Hein. Miss Elizabeth Pollock, returned missionary from India, led devotionals. During the business meeting it was decided to have a mother and daughter banquet for all of the women of the church at Ruby's cafe in Fullerton on May 24. Announcement was made that the Federated Council of Church Women will hold their Fellowship luncheon at the Calvary Baptist church May 4 at 12:15. Annual birthday party sponsored by the Ladies Aid will be held in the home of Mrs. R. C. Hein at 2 p.m. on April 26. Mrs. Brunemeier introduced guests for the day including Mrs. Sadie Cook, Mrs. Cora Marsh, Mrs. Cowee, Mrs. Dorothy Burns, Mrs. Fannie Goddard, Miss Dunn and Miss Mable Gillian. Mrs. Brunemeier conducted a short meeting for the California branch of the Women's Union Missionary Society and introduced the speaker for the afternoon, Miss Mable Gillian, a returned missionary. She discussed her work in India and China. Ladies Aid meeting for May will be held in the home of Mrs. William Maugerhan. Couplets Honor Year's Advisors The home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rodet on S. Indiana st. was the setting Friday for a meeting of 3 Anaheim Gazette MONDAY, APRIL 23, 1955 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities Pat Terrebonne—2206 Native Daughters To Aid County's Handicapped Santa Ana Parlor No. 235, Native Daughters of the Golden West, have extended their Blind Children Project to cover a period of three years, and to include the Visually Handicapped Children of all Orange county. A Vision Diagnostic Clinic has been established for the examination of all visually handicapped children in all Orange county schools, the opening date. April 26, 1951. In co-operation with the Native Daughters, Miss Ericson of the Division of Special Services, Orange county superintendent of schools office, made a survey of visually handicaped children. The survey discovered 21 visually handicapped children ranging in age from two to 16. With the establishment of the clinic, it is hoped unsuspected eye conditions will be discovered. Funds for the clinic will be raised at an out-door breakfast to be held in May. Mr. Vic Borchard of Borchard's Market, 631 S. Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Gonzales, Rt. 5, 10871 Harcourt, Anaheim, became the parents of a seven pound, ten ounce boy, April 20 at Santa Ana Community hospital. Connie Woods Bride-Elect of James West Mr. and Mrs. Horace Woods, 604 S. Helena st. are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Connie Violet to Hal James West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest C. West, 1120 W. Chestnut st. No date has been set for the wedding. Miss Woods is attending Fullerton Junior college where she is majoring in art. She is also with the Fullerton Geological Survey office. Her fiance is attending San Diego State college and expects to enter the armed services soon. Harris-Stintz Rites in Ariz. Established in their new home at 4558 Adams st., Riverside, are Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Harris, who were married April 9, in Peoria, Arizona. Mrs. Harris was the former Mrs. Bernice Stintz of Anaheim. The wedding took place in the home of the bride's cousin, Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer with several relatives and friends in attendance. Mr. Harris is a former member of the city council. Crockett who have lived in and operated the Crockett building at 10472 S. Stanton ave., for more than 10 years have built a new ranch home on an acreage in Cypress, 8912 Hoffman st. Heavens to Betsy It's got legs? A cheesecake picture of three lovely Spanish dancers caused a caustic comment from an irate faculty member last week, but the students agreed almost unanimously that it was one of the best seen all year. Bye Bye Two teachers resigned from faculty positions and will be missed at Fullerton next year. Mr. Richard Borst, head of the English department, plans to retire after teaching English in the district since 1921. Jack Benjamen, advisor of the journalism department, will leave to go on a tour of duty as a reserve officer in the Army. Big Splash The swim show, that is to be a water extravaganza, will be staged this Friday and Saturday. It's going to be one of the biggest highlights of the year and something that nobody will want to miss. Lotta Bull The fact that so many policemen also attended an off the campus dance caused some questions by students as to the why and wherefore. It was then that Carol Rich, commissioner of social affairs, located the California state law which prescribes that a minimum number of three officers must be present at such public meetings. Hmmm, learn something new every day. Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Plans Installation Speaker Stresses Importance of World Cooperation Stressing the fact that it is important for children of various countries know how each other lives, conditions, Mrs. A. Kenneth Spencer, radio and TV chairman of California Congress of Parents and Teachers, spoke to Fourth District members yesterday (Thursday, April 19) at an all day meeting held in Santa Ana Willard Junior High school. Mrs. Spencer described living conditions in South America which she and her husband observed on a trip to that country a year ago. She emphasized that we should recognize international understanding. Mrs. Spencer was introduced by Mrs. H. V. Ziemer, education director. The annual publicity, program and membership awards were presented, Mrs. Charles F. Davis, membership chairman, in charge. For increase in membership, Fullerton high school unit was awarded a cup. A $500 scholarship which is presented by the Fourth District to some outstanding, worthy senior in college to complete training for elementary teaching, was presented to Bebe Lelsegang of San Jose State College, formerly of Orange high school. An interesting historian report was given by Mrs. Claude Neer, historian. Mrs. Charles F. Davis reported a total membership of the district as 24,682, an increase of 3000 over last year. Fourth District Mothersingers sang three numbers, directed by Mrs. Lorraine Linstrom, guest director and William H. Seaman, accompanist, a member of Huntington Beach high school faculty and pianist for Huntington Council Mothersingers. Mrs. Marguerite Prindiville, chairman of Civil Defense Armed Forces committee of District 16, California State Nurses association. Family Dinner Honors Navy Man Gerald M. Clabaugh, AM 2/c recently returned from overseas duty with the Navy, was honored by his sister Mrs. Betty Rogers at a small dinner party. The honoree, who has served with the Navy for the past five years, told of the many interesting experiences he had on his last trip. He will report for duty tomorrow in Tennessee. Attending were Mrs. Eleanor Clabaugh, Miss Patricia Clabaugh, Miss Patricia Clabaugh Elmer Clabaugh jr., Alvin E. Rogers, James Rogers and Alvin Rogers jr. An eight pound, six ounce son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Manue Tovar, 411½ S. Clementine st last Thursday at Orange County hospital. Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Plans Installation Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Dorothea Schutz. Members present including Mildred and Ann Clair Mauerhan, Eloise Smith, Marjorie Pible, Kaye Fancher, Lois Spratt, Alice Myers, Audrey Vail, Ann Engleretson, Louise Miller, Beulah Hineman, Gladys Malmrose, Bessie Frey, Kay Dietmeier, Helen Cohn, Helen Sharp. The president, Eloise Smith announced that installation of officers will be held on May 8 at the Imperial Restaurant in Garden Grove. The president then introduced Virginia Palmiri to the group, she showed color slides on primary and secondary colors and what happens when they are placed together, and followed the pictures with a very interesting discussion on "The Art of Dress." Miss Palmiri brought samples of material in various shades and demonstrated on the members the effects of various colors on the individuals. The Crockett building, recently purchased by the state to make way for Highway 39 to be constructed was sold at public auction last week to W. McCain of Los Angeles. He will move the section of the building that housed the Stanton Chamber of Commerce, Parra Real Estate office and the Crockett residence to Culver City. The remaining apts, garages and former home of the Orange county public library branch will be sold. Monthly meeting of the National Fuchsia Society will be held Tuesday, April 24, at 8 p.m., in the Anaheim American Legion hall, 936 N. Lemon st. Speaker will be Maria Wilkes of Evans and Reeves Nursery in Los Angeles. Her topic will be calenderium (flowers for every month of the year). A plant sale will include many Fuchsias. This will be ladies night, which means that the men will furnish refreshments. Visitors are invited. Formative demonstration and one that will not soon be forgotten by Tau Chapter. The next meeting will be held on April 23 at the home of Beulah Hineman. Personal Mention Val Moore, head of the Hawaiian Dance studio at 7232 Monroe st., will leave Sunday for her annual trip to Hawaii for study of the language, chants and dance of the islands. On arrival, she will enroll at the University of Hawaii for courses in language, and at various schools of dance in Honolulu. Both ancient and modern routines are included in her program of study. She will leave on United Airlines and will return here in approximately one month. Anothony F. Parra has opened a new real estate office at 6262 E. Lincoln ave., Cypress. He has been a real estate broker in Stanton for almost five years. Buzz'n Dozen Entertained in Ryan Home Members of Buzz'n Dozen were guests of Mrs. J. F. Ryan Wednesday at a delightful spring party in her N. Palm st. home. Bingo prizes were awarded to Mrs. M. W. Root, Mrs. S. Mustedanagich, Mrs. D. A. Bunting and Mrs. V. Stitchman. Other present were Mrs. I. R. Strain, Mrs. J. W. Eakins, Mrs. A. E. Schmidt, Mrs. K. J. Bradley, Mrs. G. E. LaFollette, Mrs. L. A. Nord, and a guest, Mrs. Alice Holland. Mrs. J. A. Endicott of Anaheim, left by train Sunday, for Pratt, Kansas, for an extended visit with relatives. A highlight of her visit will be a family reunion to celebrate the 80th birthday of her sister.
