Opera Committee to Continue Plans For Bringing Dollar Opera Here
Leading citizens will meet in the Elk's club auditorium, on Thursday, April 29, 8 p.m., to formulate plans to bring opera to Anaheim. Committee will meet with Mr. Glynn Ross, general manager of the Opera Productions sponsored by the Los Angeles Conservatory.
Mr. Ross is reputed to be the only American-born stage director and producer with a European Opera house background. He initiated the first season of the Los Angeles tax-sponsored opera company and has staged operas with the San Francisco Opera company and leading opera companies of the world.
The purpose of bringing such splended events to Anaheim is two-fold: First, to make available the finest of popular grand operas at a reasonable cost; and, second,
to give the exceptional young professional talent of this region an opportunity to be heard and seen in first class productions.
The Conservatory is a non-profit corporation, the project is purely cultural and altruistic. Costs of producing such an opera as "The Barber of Seville" in first class style precludes any profit, even with capacity audiences. The production includes a complete orchestra of professional musicians. The balance of the cast will be announced in a later issue.
It is the hope of the Anaheim Committee for Opera that Anaheim will support this exceptional and worthy enterprise.
George Washington Cub Scout pack meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium Friday.
