Dick Gay Sends Men into PASW
Dick Gay, chairman of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce Membership committee, has proclaimed the period March 7 to March 14 as "President Adolf Schoepe Week."
The "PASW" is part of the chamber's membership round-up campaign. Gay stated "It is the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors' one big opportunity to demonstrate concrete support and confidence in our 1951 president."
Goal of "PASW" is 16 new members, $1273.75 in increased income.
Gay explained that the work so far has progressed pretty well. He said the Membership committee set out to sign up 53 new members. To date, 21 have signed.
Members of the chamber are manning flying squadrons which are conducting the round-up.
Don Suydam, of the chamber staff, announced today that one of the flying squadrons has reached 100 per cent of its quota in signing up old and new members in the unit's area.
Members of the team are A. J. Schutte, E. R. McCoy, Floyd Heath, and Jeff Palin.
Gay (a two hat man, he's also vice-president of the chamber), sent the other teams into "PASW" with these words:
"Never has this Chamber of Commerce been in such a strong position as it is today. Never has a membership campaign had such outstanding response.
Now is the one grand opportunity to put the chamber on a"

To do the job right, many men in the regiment must work at night. The POM (Preparation for Diverse Movement) manual, which has come in for a lot of attention since the alert order, is referred to many times.
Units from Orange county are 3rd Battalion Headquarters Company and Company L from Santa Ana; Company I from Orange; Company K, from Anaheim; Company M, from Fullerton.
The alert order brought varied reactions from Anaheim men. They had many questions about what it is like to serve in Japan. They were especially interested in the climate in Japan. For many of them this is their first tour of overseas duty.
Said Cpl. Ted L Browne of 1011 East Broadway, "When I heard the news, I thought it was just another rumor. We've had so many rumors in the past few weeks." Browne is a member of Anaheim's Company K.
Sgt. Clarence B. Blackstock of 412 West Broadway, also a member of Company K, had climbed inside a field oven to clean it up. He interrupted his work long enough to say: "There's at least one thing I can say about the whole thing. We'll get to see some different scenery."
Sgt. 1st Cl. Albert H. Miller of 8415 Lemon ave., revived an old World War II expression: "See you in Tokyo."

Lock Co. plant in San Francisco for an example where the counterpart of a Kwikset employee being paid $1.10 is paid $1.48 per hour," he said.
"Bear in mind," he said, "that those figures include the proceeds from Kwikset's profit-sharing plan."
To illustrate the alleged need for job protection in the plant, McCombs related his experience when he went to work for the company in preparation for the present organization drive.
"I was hired as a tool and die maker and worked in the plant nine weeks prior to our present organization effort," he said.
"When I want to work, my pay exceeded that of machinists who have been working here for substantial periods of time."
Although McCombs offered no explanation for the pay differential, he explained that the union considers such a situation unjust and to the detriment of the workers and therefore subject to union action.
In defense of the unionization program generally, he cited the union contention that higher wages and shorter working hours, coupled with freedom from management "speed-ups" (as with which Kwikset has charged) and the abolition piecework benefits the worker as well as the individual without saddling the cost with unbearable cost load.
"Kwikset produced 17 of the locks used in combat throughout the country last year," he explained. "Is it like union-scale wages could the plant's economy when outfits have thrived under contract?
"As far as the welfare city is concerned, retail service establishments are to benefit when workers town in the late afternoon money in their pockets and energy left over from the day to enjoy themselves."
McComb said enough employees have returned giving the union authorization representation to allow them to file for an election in this However, it would not be union's advantage to file absolute assurance that they will vote 51 per cent for Union, since a one-year-warrant must follow an unfree election result before further organization activity can be taken.

SA Woman Victim Of Bible Snatcher
Perhaps the first case of Bible snatching in police history occurred in Santa Ana last night when Mrs. Clara Cook, 328 W. Washington Ave., was suddenly shoved off balance by a young man who shed up behind her and snatched the Bible she was carrying under her arm.
She was nearing her home at the time and the thief darted forth on Durant st. Mrs. Cook, despite the darkness said the fact that she was almost thrown to the ground by her assailant, was able to describe him as wearing jeans, rolled up, a light shirt and no hat. He had dark hair, she did.

98 Marine Vets Return to El Toro
Return of 32 U.S. Marine veterans to their home base at El Toro late yesterday after eight months of fighting in Korea, was the occasion for a housing homecoming reception.
When the group, part of 1000 Korean war veterans arriving by transport in San Francisco Monday reached Irvine sliding on a special train a few had immediate welcomes from their wives and children. Most of the others, however, will not have family reunions until they can get to their homes in other states on the 30-day furlough they will receive.
The special train which brought them to El Toro also carried several hundred raw recruits to boot camp at San Diego.
