Clothiers' Convention Names Ike As Best Dressed Man in America
NEW YORK (UP)—Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower is the best dressed man in America—in or out of uniform—a clothiers group declared today.
That was the consensus at the 33rd annual convention of the National Association of Retail Clothiers and Furnishers, President Robert B. Underwood, of Richmond, Va., said.
The convention's list of the "Ten Best Dressed Men in America" also included:
Comedian Bob Hope.
New York City Police Commissioner Thomas F. Murphy.
Ed Herlihy, radio and television master of ceremonies.
Phil Rizzuto, of the New York baseball Yankees.
Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, wealthy sportsman.
Dan Seymour, television producer and master of ceremonies.
Actor Gregory Peck.
Edward Fields, carpet manufacturer.
Comedian Jan Murray.
Gen. Eisenhower, the announcement said, was chosen for his "typical American look—always neat, never flashy." He received more first places than all the other candidates for honors combined.
Bob Hope scored with "his out-

O'Shea 'Ex' Claims $14,500 Alimony
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Michael O'Shea, 43, husband of actress Virginia Mayo, today faces a claim by his ex-wife that he owes her $14,500 in back alimony.
Mrs. Grace W. O'Shea, Hartford, Conn., filed suit here yesterday. She said O'Shea agreed before their divorce in 1947 to pay her $700 monthly and 10 per cent of his earnings over $12,000 a year. They were married in 1926 and have two children.
Freak Fall Saves Boy from Downing
LAKE GEORGE (AP)—A woman's heroism and an accidental fall saved a five-year-old boy from death yesterday.
Mrs. Alger Mason, 33, plunged through a slit in the ice covering Lake George and rescued Reid Henderson.
The boy was unconscious when she pulled him out.
Her father, Arthur Mead, ran toward the Mason house with the boy in his arms.
Mead stumbled. The fall, however, apparently dislodged most of the water from Reid's lungs and may have had his life. Dr. Bernard Selinger said.
The boy was revived in 15 minutes by artificial respiration.
Reid, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Henderson, apparently slipped into the water while watching fishermen near his home.

Stanwyck-Taylor Tie Liquidated
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Barbara Stanwyck, gray-haired at 43, has liquidated her 11-year-old marriage to Robert Taylor.
She testified yesterday that the 39-year-old actor requested a divorce when he returned from picture making in Italy; that he said he had enjoyed his freedom abroad and wanted to continue to do as he pleased.
His announcement shocked her so that she became ill and had to place herself under the care of a physician, she told Superior Judge Thurmond Clarke.
Married in 1939, the movie couple separated last Dec. 14.
Under a financial settlement, given court approval, she gets 15 per cent of Taylor's gross earnings until she remarries. She told newsmen, however, there is no romance in her life "and I've had enough."
She has moved to Hollywood and sold the $100,000 West Los Angeles home she got under the settlement.

Her principal value to the world, it seemed, was that she was the embodiment of the consumer. In fact, about the only people who had a good word for her were the people who made — and hoped to sell — re-
