NEUBAUER NEWSHILITE—The "Anaheim man" sought in connection with the slaying of a Korea-bound GI in West Texas, really isn't an Anaheimer at all. John E. Welch, 22 actually is a transplanted Texon who was only an Anaheim visitor. NEWSDIGEST—Public Defender Nick Meyer will defend Mrs. Cordella Green, 23-year-old Costa Mesa mother who is accused of murdering her four-month-old daughter by beating her with her fists because "she cried". The future of the vast citrus industry is contingent on numerous factors, nearly a thousand growers who attended the 23rd annual Citrus Institute were told. Don Gustafson of the farm adviser's office proved that it was a zinc soil deficiency that was responsible for small-sized oranges... Roy Rosedale, Bees Win (Continued from Page 2) more offensive zip. There wasn't too much division of the scoring while the Panthers remained in their zone. Ames, Augie Huesca and Gayle Herbel had only seven points among them during the first three quarters; forward Ronnie Bevins and center Lennie Kolb carrying almost the entire scoring load. These two ended up on top, too, Kolb hitting 19 and Bevins 16. The Colonists were 10 points up going into the final period, but two Orange field goals to one cut it to 34-28. It was at this stage that the Panthers called for a time out and came back to the man-for-man setup. Kenny Coen hit the first field goal, and his was quickly followed by others by Kolb, Herbel and Bevins before the Panthers could even get a shot away. Forward Wayne DeGross snapped the string with a field goal of his own, but the Colonists then really poured it on to the end, pumping in five field goals and a free throw while the Panthers were going scoreless. Three Anaheim "Y" members discussed a bill they will present before the Model Legislature in Sacramento, Feb. 22 to 24, and Ernie Chapman discussed the international aspects of the YMCA. The Model Legislature is part of the YMCA youth in government program. Young men and women from over the state meet in Sacramento where they go through mock sessions of the legislature in order to acquaint young people with the workings of their government. Phil Wright, president of the Anaheim Hi-Y discussed a bill which his group drop in the hopper when the model legislature gets under way. Purpose of the "proposed legislation" is to "more clearly define reckless driving on California highways and to make penalties more severe," in order to reduce the California traffic hazard. Several of the lawyers of the club pitched in and gave them some free legal advice, which probably confounded the students slightly. The proposed bill was read by Gretcheh Glover of the Junior Tri-Hi-Y. Joanne Kellog of the organization was present also. Ernie Chapman, YMCA leader from Fullerton, discussed YMCA as a world movement pointing out the organization is active in 75 countries. Jimmy Morris of the Rotary club and Tommy Thomas introduced the speakers. NCAA Teams (Continued from Page 2) post-season conference tourney to qualify for the nationals. In the Pacific Coast conference, Southern California (6-2) holds a slim edge over UCLA (5-3) in the Southern division, while Washington and Oregon are deadlocked for the Northern lead with identical 8-4 records. But what about the independent teams, the ones who'll fill the six places in the NCAA eliminations. Of course, CCNY, the defending champion, no longer is a candidate. At the moment, St. John's (19-3), Villanova (18-4), Holy Cross (15-4), LIU (20-4) and Cincinnati (12-2) look like the best bets.
