Members of the local board of the United Council of Church Women directed the service. The call to worship was given by Mrs. Eldon Paddock. It was the same call given to millions of women in countries all over the world who believe that "more things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of." The theme for the day, "Perfect love casts out fear," was presented by Mrs. Joe R. Thompson who led the assembly in the responsive reading of Psalm 96. Following the "Lord's Prayer," the Rev. Chester Ferris opened the part of the service dedicated to prayer. Mrs. Chester Ferris directed periods of silent prayer and meditation throughout the afternoon. Guest soloist was Harold Lanum who sang, "Spirit of God" and "Beneath the Cross." He was accompanied by Mrs. Joe Burk, organist. She said that the Bible was written by inspired men but reminded us, with a twinkle in her eye, that since it was written by men, the names of the women who participated in historical development of early Christianity did not seem important enough to mention. However, the good works of these women live on. Mrs. Jordan stated that "Women can do a great deal in helping to cast out fear by bringing Christian love into their homes, their communities and the world through the force of Christian example. The fifth and sixth grade under the direction of Mrs. College Small Talk BY JACKIE CUSHING This Monday brought a happy holiday to scholars, both young and old, and Fullertonians certainly welcomed the extra day of rest made possible by Abraham Lincoln. Good News According to the latest tabulation, 900 students returned to begin college anew. Although this is a slight drop from the 950 enrolled last semester, some decrease in enrollment is expected when the spring terms begins. Unlike last semester, an even keel is expected and the number of students dropping out very few. Strange As It Seems Stranger than fiction could describe the peculiar thing concerning the number of dropouts last December. Seems like there were more girls quitting than men. Whether this was due to the job opportunities or the marriage opportunities remains a question. Budget Problems Members of the Student Body Commission are faced with the problem of figuring out what allowances should be cut to meet a $3000 deficit in the budget. Seems like two-thirds of the total was due to a decrease in the sale of student body cards and one third to a smaller income from the athletics. Live Wires Ramona Reveles and Ericka Sindt were in the spotlight recently when they made several language records to be used in teaching foreign languages. Students profit by listening to the records and will benefit a great deal with the use of them.
