For Results and Quick 7 Anheim Gazette TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1951 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA. HAMPTERED SPANIEL — Taffy, three-month-old Cocker Spaniel, wears a steel-braced cast on foreleg, broken on stairs of Chicago home of her master, Arthur Grab. CIF Hopes (Continued from Page 2) league winner against some second-place team from another league US to Face Japan In Davis Cup Play MELBOURNE, Australia (P—) Cub Scout Pack Formulates Plans Cub Scout committee meeting was held Monday evening at Kellia school to formulate plans for the coming month. A series of comedy and instructive films were voted on to be shown at the next pack meeting to show the Scotts that their hard work this month was appreciated. Parents attending the committee meeting were Mr. and Mrs. E. Burgess, Mrs. M. M. Landweier, Mrs. H. E. Balmer and cub-master Richard Blase. State highway patrolman, Cu Morris and representative of the Santa Ana police force and the county sheriffs office, completed with squad cars, motorcycles, rens and mobile radio equipment caused a sensation with the troop at the Feb. 2 meeting of the Cub Scouts. The officers and representatives gave a demonstration of how the law used the two-wire radio. Mr. L. H. Paxlon, Scout executive, presented this year's charter to committee chairman, Ma Baker. Awards were presented Dick and Tom Landweier, Jo Kinn, Bob Terry and Barry Bass. Den 2 won the inner-den competition for the greatest number. CIF Hopes (Continued from Page 2) league winner against some second-place team from another league. Other Leaders Besides the Sunset league, the CIF also announced the following league leaders and other teams with strong possibilities of cracking the playoffs: Pacific league — Alhambra overwhelming (still unbeaten this year.) Pasadena and El Monte, defending champ, fighting for second. Citrus Belt — Chaffey in front, Pomona and San Bernardino challenging. Bay — Beverly Hills and Inglewood fighting for the crown. Santa Monica could sneak in. Catholic — Doyola ahead in a tough league. Cathedral and Mt. Carmel tied for second. Foothill — South Pasadena in front, but expected to have trouble when it must play on Glendale and Glendale Hoover's courts. Coast — Compton in a waltz, but Long Beach Wilson and Long Beach Poly fighting for second. Sah Gabriel — Montebello has an unblemished record in league play with second to either Covina or Bell Gardens. Sah Diego City — San Diego leading with just about everyone else still in contention for the second spot. Can Make It Newport, of course, is, or was, the leader in the Sunset loop depending on the outcome of its game with Santa Ana today. The Colonists, naturally, cannot lose another game and still qualify for the CIF. If they win all the rest, they still stand a good chance not to win the league crown. Barring all astounding upsets in league play, a Colonist sweep from now on out would have the US to Face Japan In Davis Cup Play MELBOURNE, Australia (UP) — Japan will play the United States in the first round of the North American zone of the Davis Cup tennis championship. The draw was made here today by Sir John Latham, chief justice of Australia. Japan has been banned from the tourney until this year. Sir Norman Brookes of the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia announced the challenge round will be played at Sydney on Dec. 26, 27 and 28. Brookes also said it was possible the interzone final between the European zone and North American zone winners, which must be completed by Dec. 17, also would be played at Sydeny. In the first round draw for the North American zone, Mexico, Cuba and Canada all received byes. In the second round, Mexico will play the winner of the Japan-United States match, while Canada will engage Cuba. AUHS Eve Classes Still Has Opening In Machine Class "AUHS evening school machine shop classes still have openings for those interested in machine operation and bench work," reminds Claude Booth, instructor. Classes are held each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Complete welding equipment is available for the use of both beginning and advanced students, including welding and cutting, AC and DC are welding and electric spot welding. Instruction in bench work, of interest to those who wish to work with hand tools, is also offered, including hobby metal work, ornamental work or greenwork. Mutual Water Co., Elects Officers The Mutual Water company organization that supplies water to residents on First and Second St., Stanton, held its annual election of officers Tuesday night, the home of the president, G. Erwin; 7882 Second St. Elected were Charles Moolie president; Harold F. Lewis, vice president; Mrs. Charles Moolie secretary-treasurer. Hold over two-year directors are H. F. Lew and Lewis McBratney. New on year directors are William Pesterfield and Theodore Roth. Beyerlines (continued from Page 2 expected that 10,000 people will be able to see the game). Note to another West: No more predictions, please. I can't take any more. First you exclusive about Paul Brown. The new SC coach. Then your second exclusive that Beyton (this way you spelled it) Jordan would be the man to succeed Jeff Hill as track coach. Halt, stop, retire, desist, quit please. Though he may not be listed that way in some quarters, A mand Nettles still leads Rex Baacke by three, not one point. The Sunset league scoring race Some incorrectly credited Baacke with 14 points when played here in Anaheim, while should have been a dozen. Street Dies (continued from Page 2ville, Taun). Newport, of course, is, or was, the leader in the Sunset loop depending on the outcome of its game with Santa Ana today. The Colonists, naturally, cannot lose another game and still qualify for the CIF. If they win all the rest, they still stand a good chance not to win the league crown. Barring all astounding upsets in league play, a Colonist sweep from now on out would have the league standings looking like this: (If Santa Ana whips Newport today) W L Pet. Anaheim 8 2.800 Newport 8 2.800 Santa Ana 8 2.800 (If Newport wins over Santa Ana) Newport 9 1.900 Anaheim 8 2.800 Santa Ana 7 3.700 The CIF has not yet announced its draw to indicate which league would oppose which in the first round, but this may not be practical until all the champions are determined. Aggies Win (Continued from Page 2) lahoma nipped Texas (49-47). Down South, Duke, ripped George Washington, 85-70; Alabama bounced Mississippi State, 75-69; Tennessee shaded Vanderbilt, 61-59; LSU edged Auburn, 75-74, and La Salle ran over Miami (Fla.) 98-89. Six of the top ten teams see action tonight; Bradley (No. 5), at Houston; Columbia (No. 6) at Harvard; Kings Point at John's (No. 71); St. Louis (No. 8) at Wichita; Muhlberg at Villanova (No. 9) and Temple at North Carolina State (No. 10). A series of easy and instructive films were on to be shown at the next meeting to show the Scouts their hard work this month appreciated. Attendees attending the committee were Mr. and Mrs. E. O.
