For Results and Quick ANAHEIM UAZETTE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1932 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA. Lions’ Club Hears Gadget Club Head Donald David superman of the co-ordinating committee of the Hollywood Gadget of the Month club, was guest speaker at the Lion’s club last Friday. He demonstrated different gadgets they had managed into the paying store that are now everyday household utilities. One of the knickknacks was the plastic bag used to color decomargeline. He said that the inventor of that idea had made a fabulous sum from royalties. Ernest H. Owston of death and Owston, told of an idea he had been working on for certain brackets for corner windows. Davis has been making these talks for some time in different communities. In each place there are some who have ideas that turn out to be worth money. The originator of the idea makes a working model of the idea, the club patents it for him and he gets the royalties if it turns out to be popular. Two new members were inducted into the Lion’s club at the meeting Friday noon. Edward Hawkins, newcomer to Anaheim and general manager of the new Rinished-Mason company, was welcomed into the club along with Edward Anderson, local rancher and real estate man. BUSHMAN’S SUCCESSOR Three-year-old Sinbad, the Chicago Lincoln Park Zoo’s successor to Bushman, munches an apple presented to him as reward for picture posing. Three-year-old Sir Bad, the Chicago Lincoln Park Zoo's successor to Bushman, munches an apple presented to him in reward for picture posting. Flu Beaten (Continued from Page 2) born and a free toss by Welch and managed to last to a 36-33 edge by the end of the quarter. Then the Oilers went to work. Ross and Les Donnelly hit to take a lead for the first time, but Ramirez's free throw tied it. Ross untied it with a charity flip of his own, but Faulkner followed a missed free throw with a tip to make it 39-38. Harry Schurch then made his only field goal of the night to again make an Oller lead, but Webber once more knotted it with an free throw. A Long One Donnelly came through with a great tip to make it 40-42, but Webber hit two more free throws to knot it. Then Ramirez pushed through a 30-footer from the side that was arched so high that it almost came straight down through the bucket. Anaheim was ahead to stay. There were about three and one-half minutes left then and the Colonists started freezing while the Oilers started foiling. One by one, Young, Nelson, Seuss and Ross departed from the floor. With about two minutes left, Steinborn got free under the basket and pushed another one in to move it to 46-42. Webber then notched his fifth foul with 1:10 left, and the officials nicked Welch a technical foul for flipping the ball the length of the floor. Seuss hit the technical to make it 46-43. The Colonists then took the ball out of bounds on six different occasions in waiving Oller fouls. Can Move Up The last one came with five seconds left. Faulkner got in under the basket all alone for a lay-in and that was it. There were no changes in the standings as all three leaders won, but there may be some tomorrow. The big game is at Santa Ana where the Saints face league-leading Newport. Anaheim, meanwhile, will be at Fullerton, and if the Colonists win they can help Savanna School Defense Set Up Organization of the Savanna School district Civil Defense and Emergency Disaster set-up has been completed and school children are being drilled continually according to a plan to prevent panic in the event of attack or disaster, according to Wayne L. Butterbaugh district superintendent. The problem of child safety in the event of an emergency of any kind has been studied and worked on by the entire staff of teachers, bus drivers, custodians and the school secretary, the superintendent said. They are working in close cooperation with the local coordinator of Civil Defense and Emergency Disaster. William Drake, he said. Each child has been assigned a shelter station and an auxiliary shelter station. Drills are being conducted in class rooms, halls, playground, rest rooms, auditorium and in the buses for both unheralded attacks and those about which warning has been given. Taxi Driver Continued from Page 1 road and blocked their path, according to Carter's statement. He said that Solorzano came to the taxi and demanded the girl either come with him or refund the $5 he had spent on entertainment for her during the evening. She refused either to go with him or give him the money. Then he demanded that Carter pay him the $5, and when Carter refused, he grabbed Carter's shirt, tearing off a button and advised Carter that "he wasn't going anywhere until he gave $5 to Solorzano." To avoid trouble, Carter said, he gave Solorzano $5, and then reported the incident to the sheriff's office. Bees In Tie (Continued from Page 2) a free throw to cut the edge in half. Ames fouled out after two minutes, however, and the Oilers had a rally of their own that once more pushed it out to 43-34. Again the Colonists tried valiantly. Ronnie Bevins breaking away for a basket and Hines following with two free throws, but that was as far as it progressed. Start Poelling With about three and one-half minutes 40 go, the Colonists became panicky and started fouling. The Oilers were given seven shots in that sense of time and managed to control the ball out to the end of the game. If the Colonists are not settling for a tie this year, the break will probably come tomorrow. While Anaheim is at Fullerton, the Oilers will be playing the Panther Bees at Orange. That is the only team with even a remote chance of scoring an upset. On the first call at 7:26 p.m., Friday, police picked up two 15-year-old boys attempting alley-door entrances and took them to the police station. Their parents were called and the boys released to them. Two hours later another call came through and again at 9:55 p.m. Both times the officers escaped. Again, Solorzano picked up two calls came to the prison that officers were unable to catch the would-be crashes. She refused either to go with him or give him the money. Then he demanded that Carter pay him the $5, and when Carter refused, he grabbed Carter’s shirt, tearing off a button and advised Carter that he wasn’t going anywhere until he gave $5 to Solorzano. To avoid trouble, Carter said he gave Solorzano $5, and then reported the incident to the sheriff’s office. Deputy Sheriffs O’Brien and Lintz arrested Solorzano at his home and reported that he was belligerent and wanted to fight them. He finally turned a $5 bill over to the officers. During their parley, the officers said, Solorzano remarked that he would not again fight for this country, and when we go to war with Russia we will take a beating. A man may fall into a thousand perplexities, but if his heart be upright and his intelligence unclouded, he will issue from them all without dishonor. — Robert Louis Stevenson. Bob Bradley, on swish shots from forward Charles Griver and Fred Schlieetman, died in up at 52-58 with four minutes left. With just 17 seconds to go, Grover was fouled by Stanford guard Brice Iverson. His free throw was good and so was a final layin shot by Bradley guard Gene Melchlorre.
