SA Councilmen Ask for Raise
Voters of Santa Ana will decide at the city election April 3 whether to increase the salaries of city councilmen from the present $25 per month to $200 per month.
Council passed an ordinance yesterday authorizing the salary proposal to be placed on the city election ballot. Such a proposal was rejected by the voters at the last election, four years ago.
Also adopted by the council yesterday was an ordinance increasing the salaries of elective officials of the city. Council approval only was required for this increase, which is not subject to approval of the voters.
On motion of Councilman Virgil Reed, the ordinance as finally passed, was amended to eliminate the provision for creating the post of deputy city attorney, to serve part time, handling court hearings. Reed said he thought it should be left up to the new council, which takes office March 1, to decide whether the post should be created.
The ordinance, as adopted, increases the salary of city clerk from $350 to $400, chief of police from $400 to $500, treasurer from $200 to $350, city judge from $250

morale among the reds.
In Washington there were reports that U.N. troops should stop at Parallel International Airport, pending further efforts toward political settlement of the conflict.
An Eighth Army spokesman declined to confirm or deny the Washington report.
Reliable sources said the ghastly spondent just returned from a tour of the communist endangered countries of the world, will speak on the topic "Behind the Iron Curtain in Europe and Asia" at a public forum meeting to be held on Monday evening, Feb. 5, in Anaheim union high school auditorium.
Shadowed across a continent and arrested by Russian security agents behind the Iron Curtain among other adventures, Morley has covered Japan, Korea, Formosa, Philippines, French Indo-China, Iran, Israel, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Trieste, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Berlin, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Minister Nehril King George of many other countries during the past year.
Morley promises to expose the uncensored facts in regard to critical areas of the world and give proof of collusion worldwide conspiracies. During his tour he saw General Mickarthus Chiang Kai-shek—Winston Churchill, Pope Pius XII, Prime gium, France, Spain, England and England—and many other of the world's leaders today.
In addition to his reputation as correspondent and lecturer, Morley is well known for his articles in the Saturday Evening Post, Ladies Home Journal and Renders' Digest for his analysis of world affairs over NBC radio and television and as the World War II director of U.S. Military and Naval Intelligence campaign against foreign spies.
The forum program sponsored by the adult education department of Anaheim union everaging high school will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Truman Tax
Continued from Page 1
Mr. Truman did give one detail. He said the present $600 exemption should be retained.
Word in informed quarters was that Snyder will ask that normal corporate income tax rates be raised to 55 per cent from the present 47 per cent cap.
The president did not specify any rate increase today.
Congressional tax leaders have said it will be at least June before action can be completed on Mr. Truman's tax proposals.

morale among the reds.
In Washington there were reports that both officials have decided U.N. troops should stop at Parallel Waterways immediately pending further efforts toward political settlement of the conflict.
An Eighth Army spokesman declined to confirm or deny the Washington report.
Reliable sources said the ghastly threat of typhus has made its appearance among North Korean troops and that tuberculosis, trench foot, frostbite and other wartime diseases likewise were taking a toll among the Chinese allies.
Prisoners of war said 50 to 100 per cent of some North Korean companies are infected with typhus, a disease transmitted by vermin from rats. However, U.S. Eighth Army investigators said there was no evidence that Chinese troops have been infected seriously by the disease.
No typhus cases were reported among mobilized U.N. troops. Army officials in Washington said Russian satellite countries had difficulty perfecting an effective vaccine.
