For Results and Quick 7 Anaheim Gazette WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31, 1951 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Kefauver Investigation May Dig Out Plans for Overthrowing LA LOS ANGELES (P)—An underworld plot to take over city government here may be disclosed when the Kefauver Senate Crime committee returns in February. Harold G. Robinson, former chief investigator for the committee on the west coast, so stated today. Robinson, now deputy director of the law enforcement division in the California Attorney General's office, said two Kefauver investigators already are working on the case. He named them as Herbert Van Brunt, one-time FBI man and former investigator for the California Crime commission, and William Ruymemi, former Las Vegas, Nev. attorney. Van Brunt, Ruymemi and Robinson were with the Senate crime probers at sessions here last November. At that time, the Senate committee learned from Jimmy Utley, underworld Joe of Gambler Mickey Cohen, that Utley took part in a recall movement to oust Mayor Fletcher Bowron. Utley, tabbed by the California Crime commission as a "man of increasing importance in the underworld," testified then that he Catholic Church To Be Dedicated In Westminster The dedication of the new Blessed Sacrament church, 14008 Olive, Westminster, will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Right Rev. Bishop Timothy Manning, auxiliary bishop of the Los Angeles diocese, of which Westminster is a part, will perform the ceremony, assisted by the pastor, Father Robert Ross, S.S.C., and his assistants, Fathers Kevin McNally, Francis Ruddy, Ernest Speckhart and Fr. Thomas McCormick. About 15 visiting priests will take part in the procession. The blessing of the $75,000 Cal. the Senate crime probes at sessions here last November. At that time, the Senate committee learned from Jimmy Utley, underworld boss of Gambler Mickey Cohen, that Utley took part in a recall movement to oust Mayor Fletcher Bowron. Utley, tabbed by the California Crime commission as a "man of increasing importance in the underworld," testified then that he dropped out of the recall movement "after the early stages." Bowron successfully weathered the recall action which was started one day after he was re-elected. The mayor accused underworld elements of attempting to oust him. Police Chief William H. Parker said today that he knew of a gangland secret plan to recall Bowron and "move in." Another report said that unidentified Rejo. San Francisco and Albuquerque gamblers had offered financial help for the recall but dropped out when the original backers could not find a strong candidate to face Bowron. Santa Ana Student Art on Exhibit On display in building Q-1 are the products of the Santa Ana college commercial art, drawing and painting, and color and design classes. This varied exhibit of art work can be seen by the public at any time by merely coming to the campus. One section of the exhibit devoted to the color and design classes stresses fundamental exercises in color and picture building. The color definitely brings out the creative instinct in art students, since one student contributor imagines the painting he has created to contain a fire, a mysterious night in a swamp and a person disappointed in love. The color and design students are rated so proficient that they can match any color when they finish the course. This not only serves them well in art but is useful when problems such as a color selection for their homes, Right Rev. The blessing of the $75,000 California mission-style edifice, designed by Gene Verge of Los Angeles, will be followed by solemn High Mass. Fr. John M. McFadden, who is here from St. Columbans Catholic Seminary at Bristol R.I., and who was first pastor of the parish from Jan. 1942, to Dec. 1948, will deliver the sermon. Regular masses at the church will be 6:30, 8:00 and 10:00 o'clock on Sunday mornings. To encourage parents to attend services a special soundproof room with glass windows to the left of the main altar has special accommodations for children. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. The color and design students are rated so proficient that they can match any color when they finish the course. This not only serves them well in art but is useful when problems such as a color selection for their homes, their dress, and other practical matters face them. Drawing from models is also a featured portion of the Art Department's curriculum and living models are used to a considerable degree. Many of these exhibitions are on display for those of the public who are interested. The commercial art students have on display many paintings which can be converted into "palette pay." The college continually receives calls for students trained in this area. The school service has made all the posters and mailing brochures for the drama plays this season which are circulated to 1500 people. Elliott to Cards Trade Unlikely BOSTON OP — The St. Louis Cardinals' chances of obtaining Bob Elliott, the Boston Braves hard-hitting third baseman, in a trade during the weekend baseball meeting in New York today appeared extremely slim. General Manager John Quinn of the Braves said all player negotiations with several clubs, including the Cardinals, are considered closed. "No team offered us a deal we felt was satisfactory," Quinn explained.
