Witt Eccles, is the Christmas display for the Mary Millerick Dress Shop, 220 E. Center st. The colorful work will remain up until after Dec. 25. Lights are on each evening until 10. Birth of Christ Window Constitutes Yule Display of Local Merchant Anaheim merchant John Macloghlin believes in treating the Christmas for what it really is. As a result, he has adorned the window of his Mary Millerick Dress Shop, 220 E. Center st., with a reproduction of a stained glass window depicting the Birth of Jesus of Nazareth. For three weeks, Macloghlin says, he hopes his window will remind passers-by what the Christmas season is really supposed to represent. The work was executed by Southland artist DeWitt Eccles. The central panel is the stained glass reproduction. Strong back-lighting brings out the many colors in Eccles' work, termed "Nativity." On either side, imitation concrete walls with angels in bas relief flank the central portion. The glass representation is unique, Macloghlin points out, in that it is actually plastic, covered with paint by special process originated by the artist. Eccles is himself an artist with many years experience in actual stained glass work. Macloghlin hesitates to name a price for the work. However, he indicated that he has insured for $1000 the work with which he hopes to bring the Christmas spirit, not the Xmas spirit to his Center st. store. SO NEAR, AND YET DETROIT, (P)—How close can you get? Bo McMillin's 1949 Detroit Lions dropped four National Football league games, each by the margin of a touchdown or less. His young team dropped two of the games by a total of three points. Crash Injures Orange Woman Mrs. Grace Campbell, 75, 840 N. Shaffer, Orange, suffered possible major injuries when struck by a car on Main st., at N. Palmyra ave., in Orange. Officers said Auturo Serra, 35, of 168 Lester dr., Orange, an employee of St. Joseph hospital was driver of the car. The machine clipped Mrs. Campbell as Serra swerved to avoid striking her. It spun her around sharply and she fell to the pavement. She was hospitalized. ORANGETHORPE C.D. MEETS TOMORROW Orangethorpe school district civilian defense meeting will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m., in the Orangethorpe school auditorium. L. A. (Dan) Patch, county administrator for Civil Defense, will address the meeting. Temporary chairman, L. C. Barrows stated that he hoped a civil defense council can be elected at this time. IRISH GRID BOOK SOUTH BEND (P)—The colorful football preview book, published by Notre Dame and used by sports writers covering the games of the fighting Irish, is being offered to the general public this season. Containing rosters, stories and pictures on the players and coaches plus data on the teams ND faces in 1950, the book sells for 50 cents. CAMELLIAS SUGGESTED AS CHRISTMAS GIFTS Usually loaded with buds, often in full bloom during the holiday season, Camellias are excellent Christmas gifts. A hapless plant, the camellia will withstand a moderately severe winter, snow and rain can play havoc with their flowers. In the northwest three varieties have recently been developed with weather conditions in mind; they are late-bloom or have unusually tough peaks which will stand more abuse. The Auburn White, with lace almost single flowers slightly blushed with pink, blooms usually in May, and there misses the heavy rains. Willette, a soft apple blossom pearlellaia, blooms in mid-season has an upright, compact growth habit. The Mrs. Schafer Wine is a semi-double which blooms little earlier than mid-season, which has strong petals that will not brown. Planting of potted camellia which have been given for Christmas gifts, can be held off until March when all the buds will have flowered. Though golf seems to be burly Anaheimer's first love, he is an outstanding baseball pitcher and has done more than his share of spreading the fame of Anaheim over these United States.
