For Results and Quick 7 Anaheim Gazette TUESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1950 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA KOREAN WAR American Casualties Continued from Page 1 House of Commons. Casualties were listed on Nov. 16—before the Chinese communist offensive—at 51 killed, 158 wounded, and five missing. Turkey—This was the first country after the United States to volunteer ground forces for the U.N. operation, offering 4500 men for the common cause. These troops reached Korea only a few weeks ago. Greece—The Athens government, which put down a long and bloody communist-led rebellion about a year ago, offered 5000 men for the Korean war. A battalion or about 1000 of these recently sailed for Korea on a U.S. navy troop transport. They may now be in the vicinity of Korea but they have not yet been reported in action. Canada—Except for the U.S. and Korea, Ottawa has committed the largest number of men to the fighting. An advance party of 350 already has landed. About 1000 men are to sail soon to join them. The bulk of the 10,000-man force is training at Fort Lewis, Wash. The RCAF already has a transport squadron helping with the airlift to Korea. The Canadian navy has three destroyers with a total of 820 men assisting the U.N. of continuous service with the U.N. Navy, participating in both the Inchon and Wonsan landings. Colombia—Bogota has offered the U.N. 1080 men. The offer of a frigate, the Almirante Padilla, has been accepted and she is preparing to sail to Korea from a U.S. port. South Africa—a fighter squadron of 31 officers and 172 enlisted men recently went into action. Sweden—a special medical unit of 44 men has been sent to Korea. No casualties have been reported. Belgium—An infantry battalion of 600 men is enroute. A destroyer is in operation. Luxembourg—a 60-man detachment from this small county is being spent to the Korean battlefields. Puerto Rico—In addition to the forces from the continental United States, the Puerto Ricans raised a special brigade of their own reans had fled in terror of the rec return. Allied rear guards left the city earlier Tuesday after blasting the last bridges on the Taedong. A U.S. 25th Division patrol scouted the outskirts later and reported it had seen no Chinese. But a smoke pall from burning Allied supplies and installation hung over the area. Protected by a rear guard shields of British and South Korean troops south of Pyongyang, over whelmed Allied troop columns beat a war-weary retreat toward the South Korean capital, Seoul. Would they stand and defend against onrushing Chinese masses? Where? AP correspondent O. H. P. King reported from Seoul that a stand might be made thereabouts. He quoted a veteran military observer: "Even in the face of a million Chinese communists the Seoul Inchon area can be held. Such heavy losses could be inflicted on the enemy by artillery and air that his hope of sweeping the peninsula would be completely smashed." But correspondent King also quoted contrary opinion that said Canada—Except for the U.S. and Korea, Ottawa has committed the largest number of men to the fighting. An advance party of 350 already has landed. About 1000 men are to sail soon to join them. The bulk of the 10,000-man force is training at Fort Lewis, Wash. The RCAF already has a transport squadron helping with the airlift to Korea. The Canadian navy has three destroyers with a total of 820 men assisting the U.N. in the Pacific. No casualties have been reported thus far for any units present. Philippines—The Filipinos, fighting—the communist-allied Hukbalahup rebels and financial confusion at home, have sent 1200 men to Korea. These troops have been engaged, and one has been killed in action. Their commander recently protested, and was sent home because his men had been detailed to guard the lines of communications. Australia—An Australian battalion of about 1000 arrived in Korea about six weeks ago. Although actually engaged for only a few weeks, they saw heavy action recently, along with the British. On Nov. 15 before the heavy fighting they had had 30 killed in action and 104 wounded. Australia sent a Mustang fighter squadron in June soon after the fighting started. The squadron has now completed more than 2000 sorties. An Australian destroyer and frigate have been active in Korean waters. Among those killed were Lt. Col. C. H. Green, original commander of the battalion, and Lt. Spence, original commander of the squadron. Thailand—Bangkok sent 1200 troops to Korea. They have been in action, but no casualty reports are available. The Thai navy has three gunboats in the U.N. fleet. France—The bulk of France's available armed forces is having a serious time with the Vietminh rebels led by Moscow-trained Ho Chi-Minh. A battalion of French troops numbering 1200 men is enroute to Korea. A dispatch boat is serving with U.N. naval craft. New Zealand—This country is assembling a volunteer force of 1100 to send to Korea soon. Two New Zealand triggers saw 46 days Belgium—An infantry battalion of 600 men is enroute. A destroyer is in operation. Luxembourg—a 60-man detachment from this small county is being spent to the Korean battlefields. Puerto Rico—In addition to the forces from the continental United States, the Puerto Ricans raised a special brigade of their own for Korea. Nationalist China—Offered 33,000 veteran infantrymen. The offer was not accepted for strategic reasons. India—An offer of a field ambulance unit has been accepted. BANGALORE, India (AF)—Former Governor-General Chakravarti Rajagopalachari has defined patriotism as "creative work." In a public address here recently he said that "no one hereafter can be called a patriot unless he produces some item of food, industry or art."
