Stanford’s McColl Tops AP 1950 All-Coast Selections
SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—The 26th annual All Pacific coast football team selected from the Associated Press by consensus vote of the writers, coaches and scouts, is distinguished from predecessors by the fact that the two-platoon system is carried for the first time.
Players from both conference and independent schools are eligible for the granddaddy of the coast's all star squads.
California, conference champion and Rose Bowl nominee, placed three men on varsity offense eleven and the same number on the defensive team. Runner-up Washington took three positions on offense and one on defense. Independent University of San Francisco won two places on the defensive outfit, along with Stanford.
Bill McColl, Stanford's giant end, was honored by being named for both offense and defense. He was an overwhelming favorite for both squads.
Washington's two backfield stars, Don Heinrich and Hugh McElhenny, missed by one vote each of being unanimous choices for the first team on offense. California's sophomore ace, John Olszewski, took the fullback spot by a large majority and the Bears' Les Richter, was almost unanimous choice for defensive guard. Although he played defense most of the season, Washington's dynamic guard, Ted Holzknecht of Missoula, Mont., was chosen by Here Are Pairing.
Although press time prevented the publishing of any of the first-round results of this afternoon's class B tourney play in the Anaheim gym, here are the preliminary pairings for tomorrow's second round — dependent, of course, on today's results.

Syracuse University's cross-country team, winners of the National AAU team title last fall, has won 17 dual meets in a row.

Vikes, Hornets Vie Tonight
In their second attempt to crack the victory circle, Fullerton's Hornets face the dangerous Long Beach city college Villings tonight in the Fullerton gym. Tip-off time is 8 p.m.
Although Fullerton has played only one game, it will be an uneeddog tonight off comparative scores. In the only outing, the Hornets were felled by Pasadena 72-52 last Friday. Earlier, Long Beach had forced Pasadena into an overtime before submitting 85, 82.

Meyer Likely to Retain Job
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—The last undetermined managerial post in the major leagues is expected to be settled Thursday when Pittsburgh General Manager Branch Rickey and the incumbent pilot Bill Meyer meet here.
Indications are Meyer is to be retained for the 1951 season at least, after which his three-year contract calling for $40,000 per annum is at an end.
With a minimum of action taking place at the 49th minor league convention—aside from the player draft—the Pittsburgh Managerial guessing game was the chief topic of conversation among the 2000 baseball men meeting here.
There are three solid reasons to back up the probability that Meyer will be back for his fourth year at Pittsburgh despite a last race finish in 1950 and a sweeping change in the front office from ownership down.
1—Meyer has been told to leave Knoxville, Tenn., home to meet with Rickey at St. Petersburg, Thursday. Rickey is en route here from New York. It was felt you don't call a man hundreds miles from home to tell him he fired.
2—A New York Yankee official confided that Meyer was Kansas City's first choice to succeed Joe Duhel as manager. When Kansas City became convinced, according to this official, that Meyer would remain at Pittsburgh, the Blues' host went to George Selkirk. The former Yankee outfielder, who led nighthamton to second place in the eastern league last year, was officially named to the Kansas City team last night.
3—Rickey is loathe to pay Meyer's $40,000 for not managing in ad-
Stydahar Says Rams Would Rather Face Browns Than Giants in Playoff
LOS ANGELES (AP)—Provided they get that far, the Los Angeles Rams would rather play the Cleveland Browns for the National Football league championship than the New York Giants.
Jumbo Joe Stydahar, the Rams' coach, expressed the opinion before yesterday's meeting of the Southern California Football Writers. Stydahar also said he'll welcome another crack at the Chicago Bears under better weather conditions.
"I have all the respect in the world for Paul Brown and his Cleveland organization," Stydahar declared, "but we feel we can beat them." As for the Giants, "they're the toughest defensive outfit in the league."
Stydahar's immediate concern, however, is a divisional playoff Hero Dec. 17 with the Bears in the event the Bears beat Detroit this Sunday.
The following was a key one with three winning coaches on hand: Jeff Cravath of Southern California took the loss, while the secret weapon which enabled his Trojans to beat Notre Dame.
Cravath simply took the films of the SC-UCLA debacle of a week before and looked them up. "I don't believe in showing crime pictures to kids," he explained. UCLA won that one, 38-0.
Cravath expressed particular satisfaction over Frank Gifford's punt from the goal line in the Notre Dame game. "I asked Frank if he could kick it out of there," said Cravath, "and he answered of course I can but it will cost us five yards (penalty for illegal substitution)."
"So I said to him, 'that means you have to kick it five yards farther,' and he answered: 'stop worrying.'"
Gifford kicked the ball 62 yards.
