MUSINGS — Down at Santa Ana they're naming schools after "that crazy Martin kid who thinks he can fly." In 1910 when Glenn Martin was busy building experimental flying machines, the populous of these parts didn't think much of his chances of ever amounting to anything. He did, though; and most of those who criticized him have passed from this earthly scene—forgotten... Rudolph Boysen, Anaheim's soft-spoken park superintendent, has given the world something to remember him by. He developed a berry that bears his name. Beautiful La Palma Park is a living monument to his genius. He helped plan it. He helped build it. The park should be named for him or should contain an appropriate memorial to him (city fathers please note)... Ralph Modjeski, the Santa Ana architect, is capitalizing in the publicity that comes from the Polish custom or names and the fact that he is a direct descendant of the internationally famous actress, Helena Modjeska, who came to Anaheim in 1876 with her husband, Count Charles Bozenta Chaloski, to establish an agrarian colony... Authors Due at SA Writers Meet
Plans are being made by the Santa Ana college creative writing classes and library staffs under the supervision of Lota E. Blythe, Ruth Bradley and Florence Finley for a creative writing workshop in connection with the annual Library Tea.
Meeting Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., five workshops with professional authors and illustrators in the various writing fields will conduct panels on various phases of creative writing.
The panel on fight verse will be conducted by Vesta Luke formerly of the Santa Ana high school facility and now living in Redlands; Ellen Jacobson of Fullerton; Betty Isler; Ruth Christianson of Santa Ana and Marilyn Fickas of Orange.
Pictorial writing will be discussed by Al Aster and Burr Shafer, whose latest book, "Through History with J. Wesley Smith" will soon be off the press.
Fiction will be discussed by Allan Vaughan Elston of Santa Ana, Karl Kasky of Orange, Dr. Austin Roberis of Corona Del Mar, and Mrs. Helen Shaw of Pasadena.
Tourists Spend $366 Million In Southland
Out-of-state tourists poured $366,117,047 of spendings into the Southland during the past year. This was reported to the Board of Directors of the All-Year club, community travel advertising organization, today by Don Thomas, managing-director. The directors meeting was held at the Los Angeles Billmore with President Willard W. Keith presiding.
The $366,117,047, a powerful memorial to him (city fathers please note)... Ralph Modjeski, the Santa Ana architect, is capitalizing in the publicity that comes from the Polish custom or names and the fact that he is a direct descendent of the internationally famous actress, Helena Modjeska, who came to Anaheim in 1876 with her husband, Count Charles Bozenta Chaloski, to establish an agrarian colony... Tom Keesey, the kid who made basketball history for the late Art Nunn at Fullerton jaysee, is now playing professional basketball in York, Pa. Homer Joyner who played basketball with Keesey both in York and Fullerton is working on the railroad as a conductor on a freight... Bill Cook, the Anaheim bandmaster, was a tennis star at Long Beach Poly 20 Male Age... American industry is gradually being gentled for war production. Peace time economy is undergoing gradual but definite changes to make America stronger and ready for the coming eventuality.
NOTES: Ted Neja, the airline pilot, used to be an expert marble player when attending the Anaheim elementary schools. He'd team up with Lee (Three Gun) Kavalingh and show the kids how marbles should be played.
Howard Minder is an Anahelmer who's making himself an enviable reputation as Costa Mesa's leading banker. Donald Ferguson, the Fluor Construction company engineer, was one of Anaheim's greatest tennis stars in his high school and college days... Don Parker has just returned from Canada where he made hay. He and Dan Smith are Orange county's greatest Alberta (Canada) wheat Barons. They had to fight grasshoppers this year.
Frank Del Giorgio, the Anahelmer who is a Buena Park rancher, is in a Navy hospital. The plucky agriculturist has been plagued with tough luck ever since he and Bob Hezimalhalch co-captained a cham-

In Southland
Out-of-state tourists poured $360,117,047 of spendings into the Southland during the past year. This was reported to the Board of Directors of the All-Year club, community travel advertising organization, today by Don Thomas, managing-director. The directors meeting was held at the Los Angeles Blitmore with President Willard W. Keith presiding.
The $368,117,047, a powerful stimulant to the area's business and employment, was 11 per cent less than the year before, due in part to the freak winter weather which discouraged many eastern sun-seekers, he said. The travel year ended Labor Day on an up-treth, with the number of visitors in the summer season exceeding the year before.
This money was spent here by 2,619,979 pleasure visitors. The average tourist party spent $325 while in Southern California. The total cost of his trip, from home to home again, however, was $750—which "is a good indication of the economic standing of these people," Thomas pointed out.
Thomas said the spending were dispersed about the Southland very widely. Chief items for which the money went were:
Food $84,939,154; clothing purchases $48,327,449; hotels and other accommodations $69,928,358; theater, sports recreation $40,-272,875; laundry, dry cleaning $7,322,341; gasoline, oil, other auto expense $45,398,514; drugs, sundries $17,573,621.
The first Christmas Seal Sale to fight tuberculosis was conducted in Denmark in 1904 and was inspired by Einar Holboell, a postal clerk.
Santa Ana Frolics Friday Evening
This Friday evening at 7 p.m., in Santa Ana, Santa Claus himself will be the feature of a parade with over 50 entries and led by movie actor, "Crash" Corrigan and his aldes, Max "Alibi" Terhune (with Elmer) and Buck Hale.
Sponsored by the Santa Ana Junior Chamber of Commerce, the parade will start at 4th and Ross sts., go over to Main on 4th, then turn north on Main and proceed up to Washington st.
The parade is designed especially to provide fun and entertainment for the kiddies.
There are nearly 20 bands and several entertaining marching units, several humorous floats featuring grotesque heads. The Victor McLaglen motorcycle corps will also be on hand, riding early in the parade.
Tom Blackman is general chairman of the frolic, President Al Blacklidge announced, and mentioned that his committee of over 40 has been working on the parade for four months.
PUNTEE PINGEL
EAST LANSING (AP) — Johnny Pingel, Michigan State's ace half-back in 1938, still holds the national collegiate record for most punts in a single season with a total of 99. He also leads in the "most yards punted" department, with a 4138 yard total.

keen student of human nature and psychology, but his hobby is prognosticating football games. And his predictions would put the so-called experts to shame... Remember when Cap Hilton played football for Anaheim Hi? And how he made football history for Bill Cook's Santa Ana Dons. He's peddling the pause that refreshes in Long Beach, they say... Yes, sir, old time Valencia ball fans will remember how Howard (Rosie) Merrill played ball in them days... Incidentally, that league—the National Niteleague—will be buried this year. Note to Don Derr: How about getting the ball rolling for an Anaheim City Softball league? It's still early, but it's never too late to start anything... Raymond Rinhalt and Aibert Dinkler are outstanding Anaheim agriculturists.
