Plan Impressive Service for Tri-Hi-Y Club Members in Dedication Program Mrs. J. B. Wilbur, former Girl's Work Secretary of the YMCA and long time resident of Anaheim, will be guest speaker at the formal service of induction for all Tri-Hi-Y club members, Sunday at 4:30 p.m., in White Temple Methodist church. Impressive service of dedication and candellighting has been planned, and approximately eighty five new girls will be received into membership of the organization at the service. Each new member will be sponsored by an old member, and will receive the ceremonial light from the hand of her sponsor. Miss Barbara Trapp, Tri-Hi-Y council president will be Mistress of Ceremonies, and will be assisted by Miss Bonnie Smith, council vice president. Members of the Women's Advisory committee of the YMCA will be in the receiving line, and will take part in the afternoon's service. The candellighting ceremony will be directed by Mrs. Nan Moore, under whose supervision the entire program has been arranged. Mrs. Wilbur, speaker of the afternoon, is well known in Anaheim and will be remembered not only for the fine work she did among the Y-Girls, but also because she was wife of the former YMCA secretary, affectionately known as "JB" to hundreds of young men and boys who came under the influence of the Y pro- Varied Program At Toastmaster Section Meeting Speakers at Anaheim Ebell club Toastmasters section found material for their book reviews in such widely diversified subjects as crime, Biblical history and politics when the section met Wednesday. Mrs. Joe Van Waggoner reviewed "The San Quentin Story," by Warden Duffy and Dean Jennings. She told her audience that Duffy took the job as warden for one month on a trial basis. His first action was to remove numbers from the men and to eat his meals with them. He discovered that $5000 a month was being saved on their food and demanded that it be spent or the men in charge would lose their jobs. Another of his steps forward was the taking of guns from men who guarded the prisoners during meals on the contention that it was not healthy psychologically or physically for a man to have a gun in his back and food in his mouth. Second speaker, and winner of the Schumacher cup was Mrs. Marion Pickle who reported on the Book of Esther from the Bible. She said that the book is romantic, not historical and that its origin and author are not known. Mrs. Wilbur, speaker of the afternoon, is well known in Anaheim and will be remembered not only for the fine work she did among the Y-Girls, but also because she was wife of the former YMCA secretary, affectionately known as "JB" to hundreds of young men and boys who came under the influence of the Y program during the years when the Wilburs served in Anaheim. The meeting is open to the public, and a cordial invitation to attend is extended to all who care to do so. Los Campanous club dance will be held at the Elks club Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m., by the Anaheim Kwikset Lock Co. Informal dress will be worn. WHO SAID YOU CAN'T GET A NEW PONTIAC? As president of the large and active service club she is well versed on all of its functions and is aware of the responsibility she carries as its leader. Her first interest in the organization was aroused by her husband, Melford "Bud" Johnson, whose reports on activities and projects of the club prompted her to seek membership in the Auxiliary. That was five years ago, and today she has behind her a record of outstanding service with the unit, as secretary, vice president, a member of the board, and finally, president. "I'm not really governing the club," she said, "I want the girls to work with me, not under me." "I'm just up there holding things together." This approach to her work has gained both the confidence and respect of the 92 members enrolled in the unit this year. Explaining the work of the auxiliary she pointed out that disabled veterans are the main project, with child welfare, community service, rehabilitation, poppy sale, hospital and membership committees also claiming much of the worker's attention. Not a social club, the auxiliary is dedicated first and foremost to being of service wherever it is most needed in these capacities.
