Anaheim Gazette by JOHN S. NEUBAUER VETERAN'S DAY—There used to be a time when Armistice Day really meant something. It is just another banker's holiday now. Clarence Stull, the Anaheim oil salesman, has been working hard to make tomorrow's Veteran's Day at Fullerton a success. James Grieves is doing everything humanly possible to make the Vet's parade the biggest and best. A flight of 20 aircraft from the 714th Light Bomb Wing from Long Beach will skim over the parade route at 11 a.m. an hour after the official start of the parade. The squadron will be led by Major Lloyd Coibock, Santa Ana flier... Master Sgt. Clarence (Whitey) Craft, Santa Ana's Congressional Medal of Honor winner, will be grand marshal of the parade. A Sunset league football game will be part of the festivities when Dick Spandling's Fullerton Indians play Huntington Beach. A carnival in connection with the veteran's event is being held in front of the ball park. Incidentally, the veterans have been hard pressed for funds to run the gala event. There have been too many parades in the span of a month. Mike McGonicle, the sage of Sleepy Hollow, says: "They'll have to go some to beat that Anaheim Hallowe'en parade." INIMITABLE — Harold Smith of the Smith Reafsnyder Smiths, can do anything in a furniture store from selling a highboy to repairing a washing machine. But, he should have been a reporter as he turns out some neat phrases as editor of the Anaheim monthly club "Squeak." OBSERVATION — Edward R. Heinze is right in his letter to the Gazette editor! Anaheimers could have done a whole lot better than to get N. T. G.—the so-called famous TV star—to TV Anaheim's Slick Chicks. Like a lot of show folks, he resorts to cheap humor. Dick Syverson, the ANORANCO editor, is a snarew observer. It is impossible to fool youth, though older folks can be—and often are misled... The GAZETTEER wishes to congratulate Dick Syverson for expressing himself editorially, and Ed Heinze for calling Dick's editorial to the attention of the GAZETTEER. Although the Anaheim Hallowe'en Festival has surpassed the Haggers town Hallowe'en event, it still can stand a lot of improvement. And no one knows that better than Ernie Moyle. LEE'S Gal Friday GARDEN GOSSIP There is no plant that is more popular than the brilliantly-colored PYRACANTHA. It is equally as attractive in the spring with its SPRAYS of WHITE BLOOM as it is in the winter with the CLUSTERS of RED BERRIES. Be sure to see our DISPLAY of the various VARIETIES in both 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes. If you have a spot in your yard where you would like a SHRUB that is not commonly planted, why not try a HEATHER? We have some BEAUTIFUL PLANTS in several kinds. Did you know that there is a semi-creeping variety that may be used as a GROUND COVER? Do come in and visit our CAMELLIA GARDEN. There is an unusually large number blooming for this early in the season. By the way, don't overlook putting CAMELLIAS on your CHRISTMAS GIFT LIST. OPEN LETTER—Mr. Herbert H. Stabbert, Dear Sir: How about taking a trip to North Anaheim (that's right, Fullerton) and inspecting the school playgrounds. If North Anaheim kids have turfed fields to play on, the school board should see that Anaheim kids get the same break. Thanks. MYSTERY—Sgt. G. H. Puddy of the LAPD polygraph department issued a report on the lie detector tests given four of the principals of the mysterious shooting at Fullerton Councilman Kermit Wood. Sheriff James Musick announced that the tests prove nothing, but there are a lot of Anaheimers who have been following the case who say it does. It proves that figures—public figures don't lie... Recent Anaheim City council meetings have been heated affairs—the outgrowth of the proposed new zoning ordinance. Gordon Whitehall, planning consultant, had his hands full acting as moderator. Mayor Charlie Pearson will act in the best interests of Anaheim and the council will study the issue thoroughly before acting one way or the other... What happened to the GAZETTER shouldn't happen to a dog. He lost his notebook. Where? At the Eagle-Lion Studio, Hollywood... Loren Nixon's face was red. The Orrangethorper climbed into a car in Long Beach and drove it home. It wasn't his'n even if it was almost exactly like his'n. They key even fit... REMEMBER — It's better to yield the right-of-way, than get the right of way when they cart you to the hospital. MELLIA GARDEN. There is an unusually large number blooming for this early in the season. By the way, don't overlook putting CAMELLIAS on your CHRISTMAS GIFT LIST. So that you won't have any regrets next spring when your neighbors' yards are gay with PERKY DAF-FODILS, RANUNCULUS or any of the other spring - flowering BULBS, ... get busy and plant some this month or next. Everyone "OHs!" and "AHS!" at the size of our Washington-grown BULBS. Lee's Gal Friday at LEE'S NURSERY 714 S. LOS ANGELES ST.
