Dunnetts Entertain At Enjoyable Hallowe’en Party
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Dunnett of E. Ball rd., Anaheim, entertained
QUESTION: My husband and I and our two boys moved to Anaheim two months ago. Now that we are unpacked and settled, I am lonesome because I do not know anyone in town. Do you have any suggestions for getting acquainted? We have moved around quite a lot but I never seem to get off on the “right foot.”
This question was part of a letter sent me by a reader. She has the very real problem that most of us have had to face at one time or another in our lives when moving to a new community.
I have found Anaheim to be full of friendly people who go out of their way to be neighborly and kind when given half a chance. Therefore, my first suggestion to a newcomer is to be cordial. All the world loves a smile. If you are a happy person and reflect your happiness with a smile and a cherry “good morning” to those with whom you come in contact, be he the milk man, your grocer or the lady next door, you will get along socially wherever you are.
Wisely temper your cordiality with a bit of reserve. After your neighbor introduces herself, do not spend every morning in her kitchen when she is trying to get some work done. When someone calls on you, be a good listener. You will learn valuable things by hospitalized veterans.
Whether you are a mite to Anaheim or a settler standing, Mrs. Robert who is production chair be very happy to have some of your spare time sewing machines in the R- work rooms or to take some work home with you. Has yarn available for an interested in knitting a sweater for a veteran.
The Parent-Teacher offers another sphere of Your boys will be pleased you join the organization school they attend and ad formal meetings, you will the opportunity to meet the other mothers in your neighborhood.
Do not gossip and do not leave the criticism to timers. As a newcomer, put the best things in town.

skirt, black lace hose and jeweled satin pumps. A leg-of-mutton flowered blouse, topped with a straw sailor with a rose bobbing around on it. Broucke was in a typical derby and loud black and white plaid bowery trousers with a turtle necked sweater.
Messrs. and Mmes. Achiel Li Beer of Stanton, Leurence Lerno of Westminster and Fritz Gossens of Garden Grove and Messrs. Rene Logier, Alfonso Verseraeten, Geo. Goeman were seen everywhere meeting and serving guests refreshments.
Joe Urange and his three pals from Bellflower were a four piece accordion band that played for folk dancing. Mrs. Aline De Gasto of Fullerton provided a musical interlude on the Solovox.
A smile and a cherry "good morning" to those with whom you come in contact, be he the milk man, your grocer or the lady next door, you will get along socially wherever you are.
Wisely temper your cordiality with a bit of reserve. After your neighbor introduces herself, do not spend every morning in her kitchen when she is trying to get some work done. When someone calls on you, be a good listener. You will learn valuable things about your new community and at the same time will avoid boring your caller with a long dissertation on the place and people you have left.
Be a joiner. The world will not beat a path to your door simply because you want it that way. You have to put forth the initial effort yourself. Church, your favorite charitable organization and the P-TA are excellent places to establish your first contacts.
The church of your choice will welcome your attendance on Sunday and before you know it, will have drawn you and your whole family into social activities through out the week.
The Anaheim Chapter of the American Red Cross has offices and work rooms at the City Hall and you can reach Mrs. Katheryn Wheeler, executive secretary, by calling Anaheim 2065.
Mrs. Wheeler tells me that volunteer workers are badly needed to make layettes for needy wives of our fighting men and to sew on articles urgently needed.
Broadway P-TA executive board will meet at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the home of Mrs. Edward Hilmer, 320 E. Broadway.
For a delicious supper casserole, mix cubed corned beef with cooked vegetables and white sauce, then top with baking powder biscuits and bake in a hot oven until biscuits are done.
