NEWSWEEK—Anaheim's Hallowe'en Mardi Gras will be climaxed with tomorrow night's elaborate fair. The six-day festival has paid off publicity wise as radio and television networks jumped on the bandwagon when they learned K. F. Hohyer's attraction was big league... North Anaheim's (Fullerton's y'know) shooting mystery is getting more interesting. Sheriff James A. Musick will borrow a lie detector and question those concerned. Wilfred (Bill) Hoyell, police detective, Councilman Kermit Wood, the would-be assassin's victim, Jack Adams, and W. A. McNames, a former policeman now a merchant patrolman, will take the examination... Joseph Manuel Brito, 18, former Newport athlete, will go on trial December 11 on the charge of murder. He is alleged to have clubbed Ramon Mendoza, a 65-year-old ranch hand, to death in a robbery attempt... All rent controls in Orange county were lifted in an order received from Tighe Woods, federal housing expeditor... Orange county fair

All rent controls in Orange county were lifted in an order received from Tighe Woods, federal housing expeditor... Orange county fair grounds development will halt under the national material conservation order... Anaheim Elks honored its Old Timers when Fritz Youngbluth passed out pins to 40 members... Bill Helton and Sally Inkster, Anaheimers, represented Fullerton Jaysee at a Sacramento conflagration.
REMINDER — Sample ballots for the November 7 election were mailed last week by B. J. Smith, county clerks. Remember the first Tuesday following the first Monday and VOTE.
SPORTS WEEK—In a thrill-packed gridiron thriller at La Palm Beach, Fullerton took over the Sunset League lead by beating a hard-hitting Anaheim Colonist eleven. 19-12 Leonard Weaver, Al Clayes, John Cyprien and John Steinborn played bang-up football for the losers... Newport beat Santa Ana, 19-2, while Orange upset Huntington Beach, 27-6... Laguna moved into the Orange county league lead by beating Garden Grove, 19-0, in a nitegame. Darren House sparked Valencia to a 21-14 victory over Brea-Olinda in a home-coming attraction which also dedicated the new Placentia football stadium... Tustin beat Capistrano, 38-0... In the junior college ranks, Bill Cook's Dons came to life and beat the previously undefeated Mt. San Antonio Mounties, 21-0. In the other conference game, San Bernardino beat Orange Coast, 13-7. Fullerton did not play... Aaron Peralta and Gene Winger scored the touchdowns that gave Anaheim B's a 12-7 win over Fullerton.

TRANSITION — George Holden, the Anaheim firefighter, is passing out the smokes down at the firehall. He's the proud papa of a son. A native Anaheimer was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Masclel. Papa is a carpenter. The Lawrence Lindsays have a new exemption. Papa is an expert with figures. Afonso Godinez, the Anaheimer, took out a license towed Josephine Sanehez of El Modena. Miss Tillie Froehlich, 90, who came to Anaheim to live with her brother, John Froehlich, died after a lingering illness. Mrs. Augusta Schmelder, 70, a resident of Anaheim for 42 years, was laid to rest Saturday. The Rev. Edwin Pflug of the Zion Lutheran church officiated.
Claude Smith, 60, Anaheim citrus grower, died last week. Services were this afternoon. Albert Schutz, an Anaheimer for 35 years, died in the 80th year of his life. Mrs. Carrie Wilkinson, passed on after a long illness. Walter Harrington who was personnel director for Geh. George Goethal on the Panama Canal construction, 1905-1915, died in the 73rd year of his life. He had been an Anaheim rancher for the past 35 years. William Veager, 76, and Mrs. Marie Swanson, 76, were other Anaheimers who died last week.

RIVER TRANSPORT URGED FOR INDIA
NEW DELHI, India—India's numerous inland waterways could become "equal partners with her railways" if properly developed and exploited, a United Nations expert has reported to the government.
Otto Popper of the U.N. Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East recently completed a tour of several north Indian rivers. He informed the government he was greatly impressed with the potentialities of the craft which ply many rivers. Popper estimated such boats carry several million tons of cargo annually for distances of a few hundred miles.
Cheap labor, he pointed out, made mechanical equipment a non-paying proposition. He served, however, that condition might change with a rising star ard of living. He noted the lack of proper river ports as well as absence of mechanical equipment for loading and unloading. Even the great port of Calcutta, he said, had a very limited number of cranes compared to the volume cargo.
