Smart Two Piecer Priscilla Termed 'Contemporary' By Mrs. Butterworth In a challenge to the modern woman, Mrs. Frank Butterworth yesterday presented a compelling address on "Priscilla" to members of Anaheim Ebeil Bible section. Her talk was in keeping with the section's current study of outstanding women of the Bible. Mrs. Butterworth spoke of Priscilla as a contemporary woman although she lived in ancient times. "Contemporary" she said, "because she was a displaced person, a migrant driven from Rome to Corinth; contemporary because she was a career woman as well as housewife" referring to her activities as a tentmaker with her husband Aquila, "and contemporary, finally, because she was a Christian leader in the early church." In conclusion she pointed out that it was very unusual for woman to be mentioned at all in those times because she had no status, however, Priscilla was mentioned four times by Paul, a close associate of both her and her husband. Mrs. Butterworth said that the three points are a challenge to modern woman whose lives are far easier than Priscilla's and who can profit by the advance made by this woman in a day when women were virtually a nonentity. Mrs. A. E. Bourne presided over the first meeting of the Bible section for the year assisted by Mrs. F. Earl Spencer. Mrs. Claude Slacke and Mrs. H. W. Saulsbery presided at the tea table. Mrs. H. J. Represent Anaheim In GS National Training Meet Institute on the Recruitment and Selection of Girl Scout Volunteers was held at the Girl Scout Little House in Orange on Mon., Represent Anaheim In GS National Training Meet Institute on the Recruitment and Selection of Girl Scout Volunteers was held at the Girl Scout Little House in Orange on Mon., Oct. 16. Represented were Anaheim, No. Orange, Laguna, Lynn-Compton, Riverside, Santa Ana, Port Los Angeles, Whittier, Newport, and Naval Order Testing Station at China Lake. Miss Margaret Murray, personnel representative for Big Tree Region from National Headquarters in New York, and Mrs. Arthur Barton, Edey Trainer, were the principal instructors. They outlined methods for recruiting, selecting and placing of volunteers. Presented to the attending chairmen, members of troop organization, membership and nomination committees, board trainers, council presidents and vice-presidents, and district and neighborhood chairmen, was a clever dramatization of a typical recruitment problem. Those attending also learned the need for emphasis on visual as well as oral training in the recruitment of volunteers. The session lasted from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and was well attended. two they will start to turn rancid and flavor is impaired. Last year, the extension service gave directions for preserving nutmeats in fruit jars using dry ice. If you tried that method and had good luck, stick to it. It is easy and should work well. However, some homemakers reported trouble — jars exploded — and so the use of boiling water bath is now recommended. Walnut Preservation Select well-developed, fresh nut kernels free from bits of shell. Sterilize pint or half pint jars and let them dry. Fill the jars with the nuts and seal according to the directions for the type of lids you use. Place the filled jars in a hot water bath that comes up about two inches on the side of the jars and boil for thirty minutes. Cool and store in a cool dark place. About Anaheim Homemakers Mrs. Ray Cheatum makes wonderful apple pie. At this time of the year, Bellflower apples are her choice and a wise one judging from the four juicy pies she took to her circle meeting the other night. Ardis Ann Brown topped the pie with her own special home made vanilla ice cream which she makes the good old fashioned way in a freezer. A treasured family recipe makes it smooth and rich and the slight lemon flavor definitely compliments apple pie. Ardis Ann's Vanilla Ice Cream Take one tablespoon of flour and put in a jar on top of one cup of milk and shake until smooth. Place in a double boiler. Beat six egg yolks and put in the double boiler with one-fourth teaspoon of salt and one and one half cups of sugar and one quart of milk. Cook until thickened. Put the thickened mixture into a big mixing bowl and add three quarts of milk and one pint of cream. Add one tablespoon vanilla and one tablespoon of grated lemon the school carnival. Mrs. Kettler is very proud of the Katella Thimbles and has good reason to be. They made their radio debut Thursday night, the first 4-H club in Orange County to be honored in that way. High on anyone's list of capable and interesting Anaheim women is Dr. Dorothy Jordt. She and her husband both practice in Anaheim and find time for church and civic activities as well. For a fascinating story, ask Dr. Dorothy about the seven years she spent in Boonville in Anderson Valley, California, practicing rural medicine with a capital R. Sometimes, life seems just one pot luck supper after another. I would not miss one for the world but it does tax the imagination to think up hot dishes that will carry well. I like the following recipe because it can be varied by whatever ingredients happen to be on hand. Quick Casserole 1 cup diced canned or cooked meat or fish (chicken, tuna, salmon, roast beef, etc.) 1 four-oz. package noodles (or rice) cooked 1 can mushroom soup ½ cup whole or top milk 1 large package potato chips, broken up Mix together all the ingredients except about one third of the potato chips. Put into a greased casserole. Sprinkle the remainder of the potato chips, broken up, over the top. Bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
