Return Engagement Of Home Garden Section Favorite
Bertha Doyle, who has appeared twice before at meetings of Ebell Home and Garden section, made a third visit to the group yesterday with another of her interesting reports on decorating.
"Holiday Decorations and Table Settings" was the subject of her talk at the first meeting of the section this year. Unique package wrappings and clever centerpieces were created for the audience with steps involved in their arrangement explained as the speaker worked.
She showed the almost life like flowers made from fibre imported from Formosa and dyed to resemble actual blooms. Also featured in her work was the wrapping of gifts for a wide variety of occasions including Christmas, birthdays, weddings, Mothers' Day and many more.
A talented artist with a vivid imagination, the speaker is floral culture instructress at Major Latecon school.
Mrs. Floyd Peterson presided for the first time as leader of the section with Mrs. Louie H. Grigsby as assistant leader. Curator, Mrs. Fackiner, spoke briefly on guest cards and guest privileges. Mrs. Spencer, president of Ebell, also addressed the meeting briefly.
Herbert Hansen of Fern Irwin Studios of Interior Decoration will be speaker at the Nov. 13 meeting. Approximately 60 members attended yesterday.

The following retort came from Long Beach after a delegation from the City College there revered the Viking Victory Bell. "Our victory bell is more glorious than ever since we repainted it..."
The way we go right on with our garden plans and planting come fall, completely amazes Eastern visitors. Chrysanthemums are about the only blooms left for those in the East to look forward to before the snow flies, while our gardens with proper care can be colorful in any season.
Although spring is the usual time for flower shows, the Junior Womens Club of Buena Park demonstrated the versatility of Southern California gardens when it held an autumn flower show at the club house last week. Roses, dahlias and many annuals were displayed in brilliant profusion and the large showy tuberous begonia blossoms of Mrs. Foster Goss and Mrs. Clarence Rittenhouse were among the highlights of the affair.
This fall flower show met with such enthusiasm that Mrs. Robert J. Stine, general chairman, forecasts that it will become an annual event.
Do Anaheim gardeners get together to exhibit sometime during the year? If so, will someone please tell me when? We have talented gardeners and many lovely gardens here in Anaheim. I would be interested in a garden show or a garden tour, wouldn't you?
Oster is one busy homemaker who manages to sandwich enough gardening time into her busy days so that her yard is always well tended and colorful. She has achieved a very pleasing effect on a small space through the adroit use of shrubbery, interspersed with perennial plants and annuals. Her grey stucco house with its surrounding white fence makes a perfect backdrop for her colorful plantings.
Mrs. Oster is planning now to plant bulbs for early spring flowers among the shrubbery which surrounds her house.
And speaking of bulbs, you will be interested to know that all the bulbs now on hand at the Anaheim Feed and Seed Store have been imported directly from Holland. These include daffodils, hyacinths, crocus, tulips, ranunculus and iris, all of which may be planted now.
Tommy Watts, owner of the Anaheim Feed and Seed Store, makes a point of stocking the latest in garden tools and supplies. Have you seen his "magic wand" for effective and selective weed killing? It is a sort of plastic tube.. Fill it with weed killer and just touch the weed you want to destroy. The weed is killed effec-

According to the gardening calendar, October is an ideal time to renovate old lawns and to plant new ones. The warmest weather has passed (it says here) and the heavy rains that seem to take special delight in washing away newly planted lawn seed, probably will not start for a while.
When your lawn needs help, call on Botts Nursery. Harold Botts, a licensed landscaping contractor, says that no job is too small nor none too large. In fact, his crew will landscape your entire grounds or simply plant a small shrub if that is what you want.
When I stopped in at Botts nursery yesterday in my quest for information about what to plant at this season, I found Mrs. Botts working among the rose bushes. The care she gives them must be excellent because the bushes are so strong and healthy looking and covered with blooms. This is the place for those of you who like to see the rose you are getting when you buy a rose bush. Among the plants in full bloom are "Applause", "Texas Centennial", and "Nocturne."
Mrs. Botts tells me that it will soon be time to plant camellias. She expects to have her usual wide variety of camellias on hand later this month. Watch for them.
It takes a bit of doing to get through homemaking tasks indoors in order to have time left for outdoor gardening. Mrs. Vera box is being prepared for Joe Jenkins and his family who are doing missionary work in Venezuela and to Miss Elizabeth Jackson in the East Indies for Christmas.
