(Gazette photos by Gregory) DIGGING IN—Little Pamela Joy Mason digs into the box for a ticket that won a prize for some lucky visitor at the St. Michael's Festival Saturday night. Watching are announcer Glenn Shoemaker and Harry Horn. FISHING FOR A PRIZE—A popular concession at the St. Michael's Festival was the fishing booth where anglers young and old dangled lines for prizes. A board of fishers kept booth operators plenty busy throughout the afternoon and evening. Week-end Crashes (Continued from Page 1) South Gate, struck the rear of a car driven by J. D. Walsh, 50, Providence, R. E., in which Miss Cronin was a passenger. Walsh's car was knocked forward into a car driven by Floyd A. Johnson, 55, San Diego. Johnson and Walsh had stopped their cars for traffic. Collision between cars driven by Myrrel L. Switzer, 45, Santa Ana, and Herbert Hutchinson, 30, of Compton, caused injury to five persons Saturday evening on Huntington Beach blvd., near Huntington Beach. Mrs. Ophelia Hutchinson, 26, and Switzer received major injuries Hutchinson, Molier A. Switzer, 55, and Mrs. Rose Switzer, 40 of Santa Ana, were less seriously injured. All were hospitalized. St. Michael’s Fall Festival Hailed Success “A wonderful success.” That’s the way St. Michael’s Rector J. K. Saville summed up the results of Saturday night’s fall festival at the high school. Designed to bolster the St. Michael’s expansion fund, as well as to provide fun and fellowship for participants, the festival did just those things, according to Rector Saville. Upwards of 1000 people swarmed in and around the girls gym at AUHS to take part in the various concessions, drawings and food dispensers. About 500 people took advantage of the huge home-cooked meal. Mrs. George Koch, 541 S. Citron was big prizewinner of the night. She held the lucky ticket which won her the grand prize, the new Tappan range. Final financial calculations have not been made as yet, but Rev. Saville expresses belief that Saturday’s collection will equal if not surpass last year’s. Festival goers took home between 40 and 45 prizes following a series of drawings of the affair. The prizes were contributed by local merchants. This is a good chance to tuck some away on a kitchen shelf while prices are low. Fluffy mashed potatoes are delicious with pork gravy, or perhaps you plan to pop some into the oven while your roast is baking. Alpha Beta U.S. No. 1-Idaho baking potatoes are just the thing. Even if you are reducing, you will want to include potatoes in your diet because their vitamins and minerals are so important. Serve potatoes with the skins on whenever possible. If you must peel them, do it just before cooking because valuable nutrients drain away as they stand in water. On the day that you can not avoid peeling them long in advance of cooking, add salt to the water in which they must stand. Recent experiments have shown that this helps to preserve food value. What is your husband's favorite cake or cookies? A women's magazine once asked that question of its readers and of the 12,000 replies received, chocolate cake was the answer winning favorite.
